>mfw all my friends are graduating with honors
>mfw I am lazy and didn't
>mfw I seem to pass it off as laziness but I'm starting to believe I'm just inferior

The real question is, /lit/, how were you in high school?
Were you a dutiful scholar?
Did you go off to college with great grades, seeking to live a lifestyle of your own making?

or
Are you like me? Did you just get through because you had to?

Getting through because I had to but with great grades due to a good work ethic.

Only at uni to get a good job and make stacks.
>>
I got through because I had to, but then I enjoyed college enough that I'm now a graduate student.

GPAs and awards are whatever. All that stuff is just a leg-up for people that already have the money to go do whatever they want. It helps, but not as much as you'd expect. Undergraduate programs, in any field, don't give a shit about what kind of scholar you are. They just want your money.

If you want to be a scholar but are bummed about not having awards then go do something interesting that you can slap on your resume. Go do a workshop or program or something.
>>
Among my friend group, I left high school with the the lowest grades (in fairness I still did well and we were all ap students) and finished college with the highest, graduating summa cum laude and having won awards for papers I'd written. Don't let it get you down op, you still have time.

Did DFW's "E Unibus Pluram" predict the rise of fundamentalist Islam across the Middle East, Africa, and the West?

The Wahhabist embrace of tradition and literal interpretation exists in direct opposition to the irony of moderate, Ottoman Islam as well as the agnostic secularism of the West.

I just remembered a scene from my childhood. Me, my mother and my little sister were on a long train trip. It took several days, and we had to sleep in the train. The trip was very uncomfortable, and I didn't like it very much. I specifically remember a certain night, during which I woke up because of the loud noises the train was making. My young self sleepily looked out the window, where it was snowing. I was amazed at how beautiful it was. The snow falling through the nearly pure darkness was almost like from a dream. It was then I realised how amazing life is. The young me couldn't comprehend that such beauty would go unnoticed by anyone but me. There was such beautiful snow falling out here, in a place where no one lived, in a place where no one else would see it. I felt so small and pointless.

I just remembered it, and now I feel nostalgic. I haven't it this strongly in years. Tears are falling from my eyes as I write this pointless text. Because even this text, which is making me cry, is something I will eventually forget. Maybe when I'm older, I'll remember writing this in a time long gone, and i'll feel this once again.

You went melodramatic in the end, otherwise it was good.

I remember being carried from some family thing to the car, waking up in the back-seat with my brother next to me, my father driving, and my mother next to him. It was pitch black outside, the only sound their breathing and the hum of the engine, and I them all in the dim, colourful lights of the dashboard. Rising up, I could see large snowflakes falling in the head-lights. At that moment, it was all the world.

The car stopped and I pretended sleep so that my father would carry me to my bed. Usually he woke me up, but sometimes he carried me. It was the best. Next morning their screaming woke me up. I waited for hours for to stop, but it never did. I could handle my own hunger, but I know in the other dream my brother was crawled up under the covers too. So I got up, walked into the kitchen and said good morning, and they stopped and walked into separate rooms. That always happened.

Hey all, what do you think of my interpretation at the end of Faust I that it is Gretchen's faith in Christ alone that saves her, rather than anything else. It seems after she is haunted in the Cathedral by the evil spirits and rejected by her brother Valentin as a debased whore, she earns her salvation not through piety and on bent knee to a crucifix, but rather in a damp and musty prison cell, alone, with no one to rely upon but God and Christ. We hear the voice from the heavens say "she is saved!" and so it is. Though I was looking online and could find almost no other interpretations that seemed to agree with me. Am I totally wrong?

Sola Fide is so fucking retarded, in it negation is implied. Why can't you say simply faith saved her? You have to say "only faith" like an autist.

Rate my poem, /lit/.
It's called "The Masketta Man".

...Will you not speak? Then you shall die,
"Not good" 's how I'd describe you fly.
The next among you I shall ask:
Bane! Why does he wear the mask?

Your silence is both strange and bold,
For one who fights for naught but gold.

Perhaps the man does simply wonder,
Why, before you'd throw him yonder,
You would shoot him in the head,
And cast him out when he is dead.

Finally a man here who can speak,
You may be the one I seek.
Tell me this: what is your name?
Last you suffer a fate the same.

It matters not, dear CIA.
It did not matter until the day,
I set my mind upon my task,
And donned my distinctive mask.

If I removed, with my fair hand,
the mask that has become your brand,
Would forth the maw of death creep,
and bring about eternal sleep?

An action such as that would be
painful to an extreme degree.

But the pain that would ensue,
could surely be endured by you,
For after all, I clearly see,
A man of grander build than me.

It seems you have mistaken it,
it won't be I that bites the bit!
Painful times are sure ahead
but not for me - for you, instead.

I really want to read more because I feel like it will make me more well read, but then whenever I sit down and try to read, I find I'd rather be shitposting on the internet.

Any advice?

i always think back to the part where he describes displaying objects on a clean white surface. the way he talks about the straw, milk containers, and bags and whatnot is a similar process imo. taking something mundane/insignificant seeming and magnifying it, highlighting its intricacies.

after i finished it made me reappraise the things i encountered in day to day life that i'd overlooked previously (since childhood probably).

its a very calming book to me.

How can anyone say Hemingway is better than this guy? Faulkner shits all over Hemingway. Faulkner shits all over nearly everyone in the 20th Century. The only one better than him is Joyce.

Never heard anyone say that.

>The only one better than him is Joyce.
Eh, I think Beckett is above Faulkner.
>>
>>8006665
Faulkner is great--really, really great--but, even so, I think that is kind of a ridiculous claim to make, especially when you consider all the authors you haven't read, like Orlovitz, or Coover, or Gaddis, who are all just as great as themselves as Joyce was as himself.
