is it a gay whore on the cover
what? who doesn't like Carson McCullers?
>>8052377
mainly my snooty lit professor who noticed i was reading this and said "i hate that author"
Is it okay if I choose not to follow this?
>>8051899
What, you think there's some book police that will find you and catch you if you dont follow some chart? Read what you want, dude.
>>8051899
No, it's not ok.
>>8051899
Sure, but if you start with Bleeding Edge or Inherent Vice and then come back asking what the fuss was all about with Pynchon, I'll tell on you.
>healthy young man with promise as an officer is seriously injured while trying to mount a horse
>the major suffering brought on by this injury and subsequent illnesses was what inspires him to delve deeper into philosophy and is a large part of what made him a powerful, original thinker
>at the end of it all, just days after finishing his autobiography he witnesses a horse being beaten by an Italian
>he goes into hysterics and wraps his arms around the horse, demanding that the Italian stop hitting it
>after this moment Nietzsche is mad and aside from rambling letters produces no more
It's like poetry, it all rhymes.

Recommend me good horror literature, /lit/. Currently reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. What should I read after this?
Pic unrelated
Grimscribe by Thomas Ligotti

The White People by Arthur Machen.
>muh maga
la segunda mitad del libro no puede ser más aburrida. Yo quería seguir leyendo las pláticas entre los pseudo intelectuales del club y los monólogos de Oliveira borracho.

Fuck you
>gonna try and start reading fantasy and sci fi
>so many bullshit fake names/words
>all basically unpronounceable
what a mistake
It is almost like its fiction and they're making shit up.
Tolkien is the only one who did fake languages right.
I drop any other books that try to do it.
>>8051911
wow, nice snek gif. if only the resolution was higher.
>>8051921
I tend to agree with what this guy is saying though, he and OP have a point. Any of that fake language stuff is a real turn off and nuisance, more often than not. Personally, I think a lot of sci fi is real trash. Other than the classics, any other scifi book I have read sounds autistic as fuck, with really awkward writing and pacing, and stupid names galore. For example, I started reading Dune, which won a Hugo Award or something, which is apparently a big deal in the sci fi community. I could barely read the first 100 pages before I had to quit. The names sounded dumb as fuck. The pacing was terrible. The writer sounded as if he had aspergers growing on his aspergers, and the story was probably the most unengaging thing I had read in years. And that's saying something, given that I could push myself through George R. R. Martin's bland and dry telling of his A Song of Ice and Fire series. I don't know, I have no hope for the scifi genre. It caters to neckbeards with no taste.
What is /lit/'s opinion on Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights"?
>>8051499
it's an absolute utter classic matey
>>8051499
It was written by a vagina human so it's poo poo.

Is shitposting allowed in this board?
>reality (truth) and perception (subjective experience) are not the same thing, and reality can never be found or experienced directly
>God doesn't exist
>man is (most probably) evil at heart
>ridding the world of evil is impossible
>much of what is worth knowing is essentially unknowable
Has philosophy ever given us any positive ideas? Every "revelation" seems to be cynical and detrimental to the health of society.

Anon, you're a bad person.
YA gets a lot of hate, but what about it do you like? Read any recently? What's your favorite?

Mexican kids growing up in the 80's. Sort of like John Hughes movie when they were fresh. there is a magical realism element but it's used as a vehicle for the characters' story.
You can compare this to Diaz's Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, but it's actually good. there are plenty of references to pop culture of the time, but it's used well unlike the former.
>>8051456
It's always nice when writers can use pop culture while not being completely and utterly cringe worthy
I like John Green, fight me
Recommend me some books about devilish lads into mischief.

What's your favorite postmodern novel? Are there very many good non-american ones?
Larva. Generally post modernism is trash. Don't bother with it.
>>8051280
fuck you, mom
I have a weird fondness for Vineland. The Beetle Leg is also very good. Gravity's Rainbow is a little bit falsely hailed as a sort of be-all and end-all masterpiece of PoMo lit. It's incredible, but still so.
Brits don't seem to take to it for some reason. They prefer much more well-crafted work than we do at the behest of any kind of more experimental aesthetic quality. I understand that Borges is a postmodernist, but I only ever read original lit in English so I wouldn't know. Others probably will.
