Any good reading lists on Gnosticism/esotericism/mysticism/occultism?

Is it worth the read?
Unless you're studying for your entrance to the Party, not really.
Whatever stereotype you have in your head about it is probably true.

Absolutely changed my life. Proud to call myself a National Socialist these days. It makes you wonder why this isn't mandatory reading in schools today, but Hitler nicely points out how Jews are interested in subversion rather than deal with facts. I recommend it to all my friends, and they've all taken the redpill

>This photograph had a decisive role in my life. I have never stopped being obsessed by this image of pain, at once ecstatic and intolerable. I wonder what the Marquis de Sade would have thought of this image, Sade who dreamed of torture, (which was inaccessible to him) but who never witnessed an actual torture session. In one way or another this image was incessantly before his eyes. But Sade would have wanted to see it in solitude, at least in relative solitude, without which the ecstatic and voluptuous effect is inconceivable. What I suddenly saw, and what imprisoned me in anguish — but which at the same time delivered me from it — was the identity of these perfect contraries, divine ecstasy and its opposite, extreme horror. And this is my inevitable conclusion to a history of eroticism."
What did Georges Bataille meant by this?
I can't even tell what's going on here, is that Gene Hackman?

No, it's Lingchi. Don't know if this one shows it a little bit better.

Are you /lit/ if you do 90% of your 'reading' via audiobooks or does it not count?
>>9902232
Write a paragraph right now about the last book you listened to. That will show us if it "counted" for you.
>>9902244
I'm looking more for a general consensus on the credibility of audibooks vs. reading.
>>9902232
It depends on how much attention you paid.
>does it not count?
The fact that you are even asking this shows you value having read books more than having understood and enjoyed books. So no, it probably doesn't count, because you were probably driving or working while listening, and misunderstanding, trying to get through it as quickly as possible just to check off another book on goodreads.

What do I read if I can't get enough of McCarthy, but want to experience new authors?
the guys he stole from: melville, faulkner, hemingway
>>9901886
Hm. He's pretty unique. But Faulkner, Melville, and the Old Testament should quench your thirst (in reverse order of course).
>>9901891
>melville, faulkner
yes
>hemingway
no
You could also try Flannery O'Connor if you like his Appalachian works.
There's also an obscure book titled The Bible which McCarthy makes a lot of esoteric references to throughout his works.
>constantly hear people recommend Anna Karenina
>not very familiar with Tolstoy, but really like Russian literature
>read pic related to get a taste, before I dive into a major work
This was one of the worst short stories I've ever read. The entire thing plays out like a folk tale. The "realism" is completely compromised by the author's religious beliefs. The didactic tone was nearly identical to a parent scolding a child, nauseating.
Should I even bother with Anna Karenina?
>>9901646
Yes.
>>9901646
>The didactic tone was nearly identical to a parent scolding a child, nauseating.
Get used to this.
But overall, yes. He is worth reading. There is a reason he is highly regarded. He was a real jerk but he had a lot of interesting ideas.

Why would JK Rowling write a whole house for kids whose personality trait is just being evil and another one that's just "none of the above?"
>>9901524
You lost me when your differentiations went beyond good and evil.
>>9901524
Slytherin isn't for the evil, it is for the ambitious. Slughorn and Snape were heads of Slytherin House, and both were excellent fellows. They may have been a bit discriminating in their praise, but they were hardly unfair. Their personal drive for excellence is what made them powerful, and demanding of their students. Like stern parents would be.
How power is used defines "evil." The Malfoys and especially Voldemort were characterized as evil by their actions, not their traits. Voldemort was not born evil. In fact, he allowed his misanthropy to make him into what he became. Avoiding that fate is the ultimate lesson of Hogwarts, or any parent for their child. Remember that Harry, like Tom, was an orphan adopted by Dumbledore.
>>9901524
Hufflepuff is a tragically mistreated house anyway. It's not "miscellaneous" as far as I remember, it's for people who are loyal and dedicated, above all, to their friends. You know what people do for their friends? Murder.
like this
Gryffindor pro: Brave con:vindictive
Slytherin pro: Ambitious con:cruel
Ravenclaw pro:intelligent con:arrogant
Hufflepuff pro: dedicated con: obsessive
My contemplation tells me no one has ever enjoyed anything. The experience of doing allegedly enjoyable things is only enjoyable inasmuch as it keeps the realization that it is in fact not enjoyable at bay through acting as if it were in front of an other and vicariously enjoying one's self through said other's eyes under the assumption that said other is different and truly enjoys the thing. The truth being neither party enjoys anything. Incidentally, this is why Social exclusion is so feared. The excluded one must face disillusionment and terror once his acting is no longer required.

I think the only real pleasure still available in life is the aesthetic pleasure one receives from seeing a beautiful nude female.

>I am who I think you think I am.
You can't read minds.
You can't infer thoughts.
You can't give yourself your own narrative from another perspective.
Slow down.
Deep breath.
Do not think.
Do not slip from your eyes.
Do not withdraw inside.
Do.
Ask.
Question;
do not assume.
Do not pause,
only resume.
Where one mind lies,
all lie; and all lie.
Do not listen,
speak. Do not think,
speak admission.
You aren't a pessimist,
neither an optimist.
You are one or the other,
but don't love yourself.
Too accept is to step
to stone life set in stone.
Die as who you are
and not who you think.
Is he /ourguy/?
>>9900872
No he's literally a reddit immigrant
I don't see how anyone aside from extreme nihilists, anti-natalists, and supreme tech junkies might even be able to consider this man "their guy".
>>9900873
I think it's pretty clear he has more respect for 4chan than reddit. I don't think he uses either but he has praised /pol/ and follows people on twitter whose accounts are dedicated to making fun of reddit humor.
Any recommendations on this topic? Especially interested in the Zeitgeist of the people and how the previous years have created the perfect storm.

there's erich kästners "fabian", which is breddy good imo. Kästner is famous mostly for his childrens books here in Germany, but this one is aimed at an adult readership and, frankly, i liked it.
Bear in mind that the same book was also published under the title "Der Gang vor die Hunde". ALso, i have no idea if there are any translations.
>>9900546
I don't really like Kästner. He wrote shit like "Die Verlobung von Santo Domingo" and I rather read something factual from a historian than a fiction with massiv ideological glasses.
>>9900554
you won't find anything on weimar that is not ideologically tainted in one way or the other.
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU WRITE???? I always start, then after 400 words realise it is shit, my prose is shit,it's boring and my story isnt going anywhere! Where do you get inspiration? And how do you set up a story?
welcome to the w a t e r kiddo
Reddit writing prompts! They're fun and get you in the flow. Make anonymous reddit accounts and just whip some off. Get in the habit of writing this way. It helps you figure out a flow pace and find your voice.
you keep writing. simple, but difficult. if you wait for inspiration you will never achieve what you'd like to. do it.
Has this, along with definitive proof of God's existence, ever been refuted?
