books, essays, articles ect. that can convince a person to kill themselves?
existing between wanting to die (not enough to do it) and wanting to live (not enough either) is painful. I've heard out the pro-living side for a while and its all lies or "life sucks but accept it". It's clear life isnt worth the trouble but i cant bring myself to the final step
The Qu'ran.
Find a meaning, anon. Even if it's to shitpost all day.
the bible
You've got to be fucking kidding me with this shit. I mean I opened this up with no preconceived notions nor sense of what the book actually was about. I'm about 7 of his journal entries in now, all I can think is that this makes the vaguest of fucking sense and I have to re-read sentences so many times over again before I finally feel I get what he's trying to say. You know know why that's what the fuck? Because it's really hard, this book is hard to read. I mean, why do people think this is some of the best writing of all time? I mean, do you think that you're just so much smarter than me that you actually get the meaning of the book and it touched you profoundly on some deep level? I really don't get it and I think his Pessoa's writing is extremely hard to digest.

you're supposed to read it at 2:30am after years of existential angst turning into bitter cynicism have softened into a numb indifference
if you are a normie you have no chance
Just picked up this book. Is it any good?
>>8115297
It's probably biased and inaccurate towards a positive portrayal of American history.
Anyone ever notice how many threads we have of OP buying a book and then asking our opinion on it, without having read it yet? What goes through the brains of people like this? Wouldn't it make more sense to ask before buying?
Or how about actually reading the damn thing, and then make a thread what you thought of it, and ask for opinions?
I don't get these dumb threads.
>>8115339
It's called bait. It is meant to incite, notice the context and content of these threads. It's always similar, if you get my meaning.
Hi /lit/,
What is your view on the novels and short stories of Hemingway?
He was fat.
His son was a tranny.
His complete short stories, Finca VigĂa Edition, is one of my favorite books.
What is the best portuguese translation to Plato's Republic and why?
Should I learn ancient greek just to read this masterpiece?
>>8115181
Brazillian Portuguese, forgot to mention that.
Carlos Alberto Nunes. Nos volumes publicados pela editora da UFPA.
>>8115200
That sounds hard to find, I want to buy the book.
Do you know of a more easily obtainable edition
what's your favourite piece of philosophical fiction? i just finished the stranger and loved it. what criteria does a book have to meet, in order to be classified as "philosophical fiction"?
>>8115153
Steppenwolf
The Bible
>>8115153
>philosophical fiction
Fiction with a philosophical theme
I liked Nausea.
Can someone recommend some feminist literature? Specifically on the subject of gender (so more 3rd wave feminism).
I used to consider myself a feminist and very pro-trans and gender identity in general, but after a long time of not studying it, I've heard some arguments from the new right movement that has made me question the validity of things like gender and the legitimacy of transsexuality. I'd just like some perspective, especially given that I have a friend who might transition soon who I of course support on the surface and on an emotional level, but I want to understand the arguments behind gender as a separate category from sex. Again I'm looking for more third wave feminism here so something like Second Sex isn't really relevant.
>>8115151
The Handmaiden's Tale.
Also keep your baiting threads to a minimum. We already have one Ann Coulter shitfest thread, we need not another one devolving into political screaming from people who haven't read anything past high school.
Conserve these threads one at a time, if not never, to decline the little posting quality left.
pluto - the greeks
>>8115154
Read it, first of all.
Second of all fuck you. Did I say anything about feminism being wrong or did I try to start something by making an argument? No. I'm asking for recommendations to further my education on the subject, because it's an important topic, you sperg.
Is this good? I'm about to buy it.
Are there any other good books on intellectual history?
>>8115109
>Are there any other good books on intellectual history?
It's an entire vast field of study, OP. So... yes, there are.
If it takes "Freud the pseud" seriously, discard it.
>>8115170
Congrats on spouting baby's first intellectual opinion.
If Schopenhauer came back to life what would he say about Nietzsche's philosophy?
He'd say Nietzsche's a charlatan.
>>8115088
Pic related.
On a more serious note, they had a lot in common; Nietzsche clearly respected Schopenhauer. I don't think the former effectively rebuked the latter's pessimism, however.
Good try, though.
>>8115104
Superficially, they had a lot in common. Both had an autistic dislike of Nationalism/Patriotism, for example.
There was a big difference between their deeper tenets, however; Will to Live vs Will to Power, etc.
as a struggling writer I find this book highly offensive. his first book is a giant fuck you to pretty much all artists and critics. I can see why he wasn't more popular.
>>8115046
Most very successful people in the arts are narcissistic. Narcissists are also good at knowing that they're narcissists. If you can't handle being called a narcissist, then you probably aren't cut out to be an artist.
>>8115046
As a struggling artiste myself, I think you're a pussy queer and that Willie G was absolutely right about everything in this book.
>>8115064
I can't even finish this book. every time otto talks to someone they think he's gay or he plagiarized his play.
do they think he plagiarized it because it's good or because he quotes wyatt (who is usually quoting someone else)
>people still think dickens is a good author
If you could see the ending of tale of two cities a mile ahead, just stop reading
>>8114997
being able to foresee the ending doesn't make a book good or bad any more than knowing what happens makes a movie good or bad
also, put TOTC in context. it was published as a partwork for a general audience, some of whom lived through the french revolution first hand.
also, dickens is awesome so fuck you, basically

Way to out yourself as a Category 5 pleb. What are you even doing here? Shoo.
>>8115179
His prose is shite as well
>Why or Why not /lit/?
sometimes
>>8114928
I'll often type in my phone memorable quotes as well as thoughts that occur to me in the midst of reading. I can be fairly forgetful, so it's nice to be able to hold on to ideas and feelings I might want to express later. But I don't often write down notes for the sake of bettering my comprehension or memory of a work, if that's what you're asking.
>>8114941
Great answer senpai. Great answer.
What are some books with Islamic themes?
The european continent.
>>8114884

What does /lit/ think of the Olive Garden menu?
overpriced
>>8114867
I think it exemplifies the bastardisation and commercialisation of Italian culture within American late capitalism.
The only time I went to the Olive Garden it was with my stepmother and her kids. She was this butch trailer trash lady who married into my dad's money. But she lost her looks really fast and became fat as fuck. Her arms were like hams. Somehow the discussion turned to how strong my dad was, because he had been fixing some kind of enclosure for the garbage cans and sweating it out a bit earlier that week, and for some reason, my stepmom slammed her elbow down on the table in an arm-wrestler pose and said "I can take your father any day!" I guess trying to show off her muscle but really it was just this fat pale ham arm. Any time I try to fuck really trashy chubby girls, I think of that night, and I can't do it. I hope she's dead now.
So, /lit/, I usually don't post anything here, but I'll give it a shot.
I am planning to write a novel, about romance mostly. Or very passionate friendship; either of those. But I am unsure about what things should I do/avoid when I'm writing a novel.
Can /lit/ give some advice? Are you an writer yourself or an bookworm? I'd be really grateful if I'd get some help here.
>>8114760
yeah, because the world needs another shitty romance novel
>>8114775
Thanks.
