>He came in with an armload of firewood and got a fire going in the hearth and sat before it and rested. Then he turned to the girl. He took off all her clothes and looked at her, inspecting her body carefully, as if he would see how she were made. He went outside and looked in through the window at her lying naked before the fire. When he came back in he unbuckled his trousers and stepped out of them and laid next to her. He pulled the blanket over them.
Oh boy
And I thought Lolita was smutty. Franzen you dirty dog
I love ASoIaF lots of action and pretty hot too
Can /lit/ recommend me any fictional books about creation of society? Post apocalyptic/ideas for new types of societies and the execution of those ideas.
I did not know how to search for this specific theme from the sticky's links.
=/
Lord of the flies
The mysterious island ( aka the convenient island)
>>8130924
This and Brave New World.
BNW in particular with how society is pretty much restructured into a class driven hedonistic dystopia.
How can I improve my reading skills?
I would like to read faster while understanding the text

What does /lit/ think of The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith?
>>8129805
I think it was a huge influence of Marx.
Hard to read desu but a must if you want to read Marx.Adam Smith was wrong in some regards and his style of writing is a bit weird but a very interesting book if you can get through the bullshit.
Extremely good but boring once he talks about corn, i fucking hate corn rent.
Also the currencies, very annoying.
What are some books that only white upper middle class college sophomore males read?

Know how I know you all are idiots? Greatest writer of the English language seldom ever mentioned. I know it's not because you think literature shouldn't make you feel, because I see six Infinite Jest posts a day.
Could it be you haven't read it?
>>8129623
It's assigned reading in high school and college. That's why
>>8129623
there is literally a great expectations "thread" next to this one but of course most people on /lit/ haven't read dickens. the average age of this board is about 13 and they would rather have a thread called "my favourite philosopher is better than yours" than actually talk about great writers
>>8129623
i read David Copperfield. it just kept going and going and going. I like dickens, but i like other authors more.
>wake up after 12 hours of sleep

George Eliot is a literary genius. Middlemarch is arguably the finest English novel ever written.

Don't mind me, just posting the best Vonnegut novel.
Vonnebad is worthless. His opportunity cost is far too high.
>>8129543
that's not sirens of titan though
everyone thinks that book sucks including kurt himself
I'm not sure if it's the right board, but I had a bit of a question / discussion topic I wanted to get some feedback on.
What does it mean to become smarter?
Is intelligence something as tangible as becoming stronger? That being, you lift things gradually increasing in weight until you're lifting extremely heavy things.
Can you make intelligence and strength synonymous, or is the concept of intelligence more complex than that?
Does reading make YOU feel smarter? If so, why do you think that is?
>>8129533
>smarter
Stopped reading there, "intelligence" is a spook
>>8129546
Yea, I don't get it. Is that some kind of red-pill speak?
>>8129551
Here you go senpai, read this if you want to despook yourself.
>Stirner himself, however, has no truck with "higher beings." Indeed, with the aim of concerning himself purely with his own interests, he attacks all "higher beings," regarding them as a variety of what he calls "spooks," or ideas to which individuals sacrifice themselves and by which they are dominated. Among the "spooks" Stirner attacks are such notable aspects of capitalist life as private property, the division of labour, the state, religion, and society itself.
Intelligence is indeed a spook.
Has /lit/ already raged at pic related?
>>8129527
what kind of buzzfeed tier man made that shitty image and what kind of meme are you living where you saved it and thought ti worth sharing?
>>8129527
Yes, we have.

I got it from /pol/. They're really good at finding things on social media to get angry about and get others to agree with them that it's deplorable
Are there any good books about immigration?
/pol/ crossies please stay out
All books are about immigration of feelings and ideas
>>8129478
Are there no books that address the cultural clashes and political ramifications of immigration? I find that hard to believe.

Brothers Karamazov is not boring.
>>8129436
I never thought I would find this much meaning in a meme. This has made me realize that I don't need meme's to make me happy. That I am addicted to them. That I don't control the memes, they control me. And I say that I can stop anytime I want but... I can't. I don't want to. The memes give me life and purpose but, do I need memes to be happy? What is happiness if not a good doggo meme? What is internet cancer if not LeafyIsHere? Am I internet cancer? Probably, but why can't I be a meme. On all levels except physical I am a meme, but is that a good thing? Are memes a good thing or just another passing of humanity? Will aliens see our memes when they come down to our war rot planet and think, "How could people this cancerous make weapons this destructive?" Will memes be how we are remembered? With a doggo meme or two and dat boi? I've gone on a tangent and I don't know why you've read this if you did but fun fact that isn't actually fun, the average weight of a pygmy goat is 35 pounds. I'm sad that I know that off the top of my head... Damn. Got to go meme again.
>>8129436
which one is it? if it's a hugo novel, drop it before you get to the sewer system, people only know the disney version any way. he's not for everyone.
