Anybody here read Emmanuel Bove?
>His characters, drawn from all classes, are often paralyzed by a failure of will, poisoned by envy, cursed with bad luck or betrayal. With relentless clarity, Bove imparts a deeply felt and lasting impression of the lives of these solitary and emotionally shattered young men whose fortunes and futures hinge on a stroke of luck, an immoral act, an accident.

I marathoned about three quarters of his book My Friends (described as his masterpiece) this weekend (around 150 pages) and I have to say I'm underwhelmed overall. He reads a lot like Elliot Rodger, and the plot is often pretty clumsy or obvious. Hopefully his Winter Journal will be better.
I found his name recently on ebooks gratuits, and downloaded "Monsieur Thorpe et autres nouvelles"

Yes, I've read most of his books and he's among my favorite authors but I've always avoided mentioning him on here because I don't want him to become a meme.

What did you enjoy about his book My Friends?
I did appreciate it, but it seemed to me like he had no grasp of plot or pacing and was only really proficient at producing either funny / observational / sad one-liners. But on the whole simply delivering these one-liners prevents him from actually developing a hat stand (character) on which to hang his hats (his one-liners).
I don't know, I'm underwhelmed. And I'm a big fan of isolated protagonists and the articulation of their pathetic disposition. But My Friends just seems too cheap and superficial.
ONLY ONE YIDDISH?!!!
To a brazilian anon who recommended me reading Dalton Trevisan:

Read The Devil to Pay in the Badlands if you like stories about criminals and whores.
>>10013145
definitely!
I'm on page 394 and found the last hundred pages or so to be utterly boring and pointless. Should I force myself to go on?

just finish it, very quick read with the typography stuff

Danielewski is a pathetic cuckold.
Opinions on Harari? Just finished Homo Deus, I'd like to see a serious and extensive investigation into dataism by him in the future.

Does anyone recall a book, by the plot of two animals (one of them being a turtle) going to various settings in the book. It was a children's book by the way. They go to a gym, movie theater, and fancy restaurant.

Tammy turtle and Tommy tortoise get swoll and also do some other things
>>10012522
I don't believe it was that book. There was dialogue and I clearly remember both the animals being able to walk upright on two legs..

Kind of maybe sounds like a roald Dahl book, the one where the title is backwards. I think
Trying to write a literary paper on this story. Anyone want to give me a good platform to start on or some ideas to think over and include?
have you read the book?
>>10012348
yes sir. I guess I'm trying to articulate the hardships two humans can have when making important decisions but not sure how to approach it meaningfully
>>10012369
a good seed idea. i'll assume this isn't for any type of assignment, as im sure if it were you'd be smart enough to know that your TA or prof should be your primary consultations
every paper needs a thesis, and a thesis is an answer to a question. so what you need to do is start brainstorming some questions to ask yourself about the book, or that you think other people might be asking after they finish reading the book.
super basic stuff is comparative. 'how do the themes of this novel compare to another (usually more canonical) novel?'; 'how do the themes of this novel reflect so-and-so's philosophy of bla-bla? or how do they oppose it?' etc
Is it really that shit?
>>10012229

Is there any good literature in this language or is it literally worthless?
>Esperanto
>Language
volapük has better literature.
Meme pseudo language
You do realize most of the posts here are worthless right? Its easy to point out when someone is being biased and is expressing an opinion as a fact. As a PSA don't feed into the posts which lead nowhere, posts of constructive criticism be it either your work or someone elses will do you good. Filling your head with the toxicity of another will not. Go and read for yourself! Not for this cesspool.
