Discuss the idea of the Ubermensch?
Nietzsche was a good guy.
All those with tragic insight are not so far from becoming Ubermensch. The only difficulty being maintaining buoyancy in a world such as this one.
To literally WORSHIP Nietzsche. He didnt want us young, budding philosophers to do this, but He also wants us to THINK FOR OURSELVES!
It is to meld the unconscious and the conscious via experimentation and inquiries of lucid dreams. But to be used for right, not wrong.

>used to read all the time as a kid/young teenager
>started playing video games and forgot reading existed for nearly a decade
>trying to get back into it
>have so much trouble focusing, keep taking out books from the library and then returning them after only reading a few chapters
>suddenly it hits me
>the faster you're getting through the book, as in turning the pages, the more enjoyable it is
>so why not just get large print books? because then it will feel like you are going through the book really fast, because there is much less text on the page
>it's working so far
>feel kind of embarrassed though because large text books are meant for people who have poor eyesight, and I'm taking advantage of them basically because I'm autistic
Has anyone else done this?
tl;dr: I am trying to get myself into reading by using large text books meant for people with disabilities to give myself the illusion that I am reading faster.
>thinks he is depriving people with disabilities access to books

from what I'm seeing, you're using those books as intended :^)
What books would you say pervert your mind to the furthest possible extent of perversion, breaking beyond the idea that perversion can only be a sexual act, there's obviously different ways of perversion.

calm down, they're just books

I've heard that one before. I actually felt great comfort when I read this book, it was relaxing and it felt like I was floating through a dream. I know it sounds weird but I actually put it down half way through because I was afraid that it would stop feeling like a dream and I wanted to come back to it another time to really savor it. i don't think that there's really anything that corrupting about it, it didn't have especially disturbing content, it just had a bunch of piss sex, and believe me man I've been involved in and seen way worse stuff than piss sex. So, the book to me seemed like some sort of pornography, but really I liked the writing style more than anything. I like being engulfed in these sorts of things.

The Vegetarian by Han King. G
Guys what the fuck does this mean exactly -
"Where there are ends distinct from the actions the results are by nature superior to the activities"
your actions should have a purpose
>>8210968
Can you explain how you got that?
>>8210971
"the ends" in the original is telos, so it can mean purpose here. making the end distinct from the actions means the actions themselves shouldn't be the end (i.e eating for the sake of eating). so when you do something with a purpose the results will be better than if you just did something willy-nilly.

Yo guys, I've been on a major Star Wars kick recently and have gotten pretty interested in the EU. Can anybody make any suggestions about where to start? There's so much EU content and I've there's a lot of shit you need to dig through to find the pearls
Thrawn Trilogy is generally acknowledged as the best I think
99.999999% of the EU is complete ass though
>>8210878
How much have you read?
>>8210878
Thrawn trilogy as actually kind of ass writing-wise.
I recommend Wraith Squadron (Rogue Squadron should technically be read first, but Stackpole is a hard sell and Allston is generally more engaging), Stover's Shatterpoint and RotS novelisation (single-handedly redeems the flick), Luceno's Plagueis, and Jeter's Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy.
What do you learn from studying English in university that you don't from reading on your own?
I like reading (mostly modern and contemporary novels), but the requirements, essays, critical theory, etc. that you deal with seem like a pain in the ass.
>>8210870
Critical theory will make you a better reader and writer by dispelling normie illusions about authenticity, talent, (self-) expression, etc. It will also change the way you read, for example, Eliot's objective correlative may change your attitude toward literary unity.
Essays make you a better writer. Practice makes you a better writer. Requirements make you read good things you would otherwise have skipped, but requirements won't make you enjoy those things.

how to write about what you read
This has to be the single most enjoyable piece of ancient work that I've read. Pure style.
When I was younger I didn't appreciate it as much and thought it was rather boring, but after re-reading it in Latin I must say nearly every paragraph is precious in it own way.
>that badass yet careful diplomacy
>that actually surprisingly civilized Roman mindset, as opposed to 'decadence' of some imperial courts we're learned to imagine for some reason and apply to ALL of Rome
>those nearly ruthless tactics and their common acceptence because of realization of their necessity
>that absolute devotion to higher ideals
>almost divine status of Caesar even during his lifetime
His writing style is well fit for such work. He writes like a real man, if that makes sense. No bullshit, yet no lacking simplicity. It reads almost like a report, but one that is extremely interesting so it doesn't feel like it. Too bad he went off the rails later in his life, he had none of those cincinnatean Republican ideals. Or perhaps times changed over the century with all the powerful individuals, but nonetheless.
the man was a brute, stop fetishizing him

Yes, yes, Caesar, you've won the war, people favor you
>HOWEVER
Is his other stuff equally good?
>83 years old
>retired from writing

Let's talk about this bastard. What's your favorite novel? How well did Bela Tarr transpose Satantango and Melancholy of Resistance to film?
War and War is my favorite of his, because Korin is such a wonderful character, and because the story transfers into our own world.
http://www.warandwar.com/
I thought that the ending of Satantango was somewhat contrived, but I guess that was the point. The centerpiece of that novel is compelling and haunting. Also, Bela Tarr did a wonderful job of capturing the momentum and place of the narrative.
I enjoy his writing immensely, but I've always felt like I was waiting for him to write something with a greater purpose. Maybe Seiobo is that book, I've'nt read it.
What do you think about him? What's your favorite novel? Also, who are some of your other favorite writers?
>>8210704
>Seiobo There Below
The only novel of his I've read actually
satantango book was better than movie. werckmeister harmonies was better than book
Why is reading with no purpose even a thing? I forget almost literally everything I read, probably because I read for the sake of reading, so I'm not called a pleb for not reading.
>inb4 muh human condition
LMAO, what a joke. Art should be entertainibg. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to guilt people in to reading their shitty boring self indulgent art or trying to seem like an intellectual by worshiping someone else's boring art.
>>8210667
What you find boring may be entertaining to others.
I read to both better myself and be entertained.
>>8210667
if you actually think ALL art should be entertaining, kill yourself pleb.
Lit majors like to circle jerk about about the superiority of being well read in works of "high literary merit"
But at the end of the day "high" literature is a horrible way of conveying ideas compared to the alternative methods of conveying that information
Film is more accessible and more effective at reaching a large audience
Logic/science creates less fallible themes since it does not leverage emotional attachment to characters to convey a particular idea or set of ideas
The conclusion? Literature is a shitty circle jerk.
I'm thinking about spirals, you?
do you know any actual lit majors? academia is filled with postmoderns who reject the idea that the classics are so called due to an intrinsic literary merit
>The conclusion? This is a shitty bait post.
I just discovered I'm not naturally gifted towards the art (ENTJ).
Acording to such horoscope, my best shot is to become an engineer, also programmer is my best shot.
But I still want to become a writer but I suck at art.
I guess I could make in college an AI to write a novel based on parameters I put and have it write in a certain style.
It's even possible to do that and get it published?
Can I still make my dream come true even if I'm not talented for the arts?
From this post alone I can tell you're not gonna make it.
>>8210659
This. If you really want it, you'll find a way and not ask 4chan to validate your "dream."

He's got recessive dwarfism, since dwarfism is a dominant trait. Both his parents were normal, so its highly likely his parents wouldn't be midgets
And his grand children for the most part wouldn't be either so long as they didn't inbreed
