What are your favorite books of the decade so far?
The only thing I've read and enjoyed that was published in the last five years was Marlon James's Brief History, and I only lucked out with that after buying it for a stupid reason.
Hanya Yanagihara's A Little Life tore me apart.
As did The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Seconded, but I don't think the average 4chan user would like it or take it seriously.

I cannot, therefore, create scenes in my mind. So I can't enjoy Harry potter or whatever since I can't make up the scene.
Any recommendations? Preferably non-fiction or at least superb fiction that doesn't require much imagination ;_;

No, it doesn't.

Later, I went into the waters of writing erotic furry fantasy fiction, specializing in dragons, where I even managed to gain a humble following from the furry community.

I'm sick to my stomah at the cringe from having read this.
>I have the Barnes and Noble Classic series version.
>I've read many reviews that it isn't a good translation. I agree with that, I'm trying to read it, but I find myself annoyed with way the book is written, not the book itself.
>I was wondering, do you know any translations that are SIMPLE and EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
>I don't like translations/books that have difficult vocabulary.
>I don't like having to look up in the dictionary every word I read, it gets old pretty quickly.
>I also don't like reading translations that say things in weird ways like for example "Happy are you not?", and writing styles similar to Shakespeare and Old English. I like writing styles that are modern, simple, and easy to understand.
>I want to focus as much attention as possible on the actual material of the book and little to no attention at all to how it is written. I simply don't care about sophisticated writing. I like simple and easy writing.
>So I was wondering, do you guys know of any translations for Plato's Republic that is easy to understand and doesn't have lots of complicated vocabulary?

Not very. Yes, I manage to read for two hours a day at work, one hour as soon as I get there and the other right after my lunchbreak. But I only read news publications.

Just check out Stephen King. He's the McDonald's of literature and does a lot of this stuff.

Yeah he was the first author in my mind. But I don't quite know which of his books fits my desires. And as you said, he is the mcdonalds of literature, so... Maybe something other than King?
/lit/ inspiration thread. This is a thread for authors looking for inspiration. Just come talk about interesting ideas, interesting scenery, interesting plots, and if you feel like it, share it so maybe some other anon will help turn whatever you came up with into something even better. Let's just have fun with it. Please keep the shitposting to a minimum.
I feel like I should get the ball rolling, but I have to warn you it's pretty shit.
Prompt idea: A man starts losing a limb each day for unknown reasons and after consulting with a doctor finds out that whatever was happening was irreversible. He lives out the rest of his days the best he can while waking up with less and less of himself than he began with.

Hello, anons.
Here it is the first edition of the /lit/ Guide to Aesthetics. Made this to help anons interested in this field of Philosophy (and Art in general) but that don't know a good point to start reading about it. The guide follows:
- 2 introductory encyclopedia articles to get you acquainted with Aesthetics history, issues and terminology.
- A list of anthologies and companions that deals more deeply into everything presented before in the articles
- A list of 4 Art History books, because you don't study Aesthetics without knowing something about Art. For the layman: Gombrich, if you already have some notions of Art: Janson. After reading one of them, move to Arnason and then Hauser.
- A chronological list of the main philosophical works that have dealt with aesthetical questions in the history of humanity. All works previous to 1900 can (and should, in my opinion) be read in this same sequence. It's just in the 20th century that Aesthetics becomes a more complex and diverse field, so you can just pick what interests you most there.
You can see and download the document here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6475ZpbH_cGSWxsZjdtY05ySGM/view?usp=sharing
Please give feedback on what I can change to make the guide better and if you liked it or not. If people are interested I can share the original .doc so that you can make your own contributions. Cheers!
