This is assuming you dont want summer reading tier stuff like 1984 Catch 22, and Western Canon/Meme Regulars, for all of which you need only go to the sticky.

The second protagonist Deryn, pretends to be a boy to stay in the army, and nobody finds out about it for 2 out of 3 novels
>>
I haven't read Leviathan, but there's a character in Ender's Game called Tetra who's a tomboy and dresses the same as the rest of the crew of the space battle school that they're attending(which is mostly boys). There are quite a few scenes where they talk about it and mention her tomboyish attitude and dress. I don't remember much more about it since I haven't read the book in a while, and I mostly like it for nostalgic reasons. It may be to your liking OP.

Why the general public perceives intelligence as a good thing, and reading as an admirable hobby, that they mock anyone who doesnt like to read as an ignorant? Why mainstream culture is obsessed with everyone being intelligent to the point people who doesnt read are markes as hillbillies?

Do people really believe that if the average person was intelligent he would lead a succesful life? They actually believe that everyone from the bartender to the street gangsta would behave better if they read Classical Literature? Is intelligence a meme in current society?

Would writing a short story about a son that tortures his father after years of abuse be too edgy to be actually read by anyone?

Make it a daughter instead. Women are inherently evil while men are better.

it would really capture the true essence of a women.

I've never heard anyone describe Festen as edgy, so I'd say go ahead.

Hi, I've been browsing /r9k/ for a while now which has redpilled me to women.

I know I'll never have a romantic relationship or any attention from women and I'm not devastated by that because I am convinced their nature is evil, shallow, and not worth the trouble.

Is their any literature which expounds on this fundamental insight into the worthlessness of women?

I've read Schopenhauer's 'On Women' already and it blew my mind and made me feel much better about being unloved and unlovable.

Recommend me books that asserts that women aren't worthwhile, that they're worthless, and that they will destroy man's integrity with their filthy, putrid, rotten selves.

"1 hour left" she said, I thought to myself what is she planning in telling me. As the time passed I dozed of and fell asleep. when i woke up you message read "I haven't been fully honest with you". I wrote what, "I didn't want to end it like this" you typed back and I said "TELL ME". She responded with "I actually a guy".
"Don't lie to me".
"ok I will tell you the truth" she continued "I am very sick and don't have very long left to live, I... I didn't mean to make you care" she said
"sick... with what"
"Leukemia".
My heart trembled as I read the word. Leukemia.
"what hospital are you in" she gave me all the information and I plugged it into my GPS. First I stopped at the jewelry store and bought a wedding ring. I continued on my road trip. I eventually made it to the hospital they where keeping her at. Going into the room I lunged over hugging her instantly. I began to cry looking at her hairless head. I stayed and cuddled with her until it was night. I wanted to give her a good life, she was only 15 years old she couldn't die there, but she was dying and there was nothing that I could do. We snuck out of the hospital every night and went on dates, this continued for a week. 8 days after we had met we were like best friends and I was happy because she was happy, however in the back of my mind I was dying with her. She showed me to a love hotel, I never really think of these things so I didn't realize what she was hinting at. On our 9th date we were in a McDonalds. She collapsed for her body couldn't take being out of the hospital anymore. I carried he back and she got the attention she needed. When I went back into her hospital room it was as if the life had been sucked out of her. I laid with her for a while. I turned over feeling the ring in my pocket as I did so. I got of the bed and kneeled down and said "Kurumi will you marry me?" "yes" she said. As I slipped the ring on her hand fell to the bedside and her pulse died, that girl had met her demise. And so did I on the inside.
I got her name tattooed on my arm. I wanted to die for the pain to go away. I became an alcoholic and got into bar fights, I would alway take on the biggest guy and always win sometimes I would even take on groups because I wanted to die. I was already on the inside, I didn't believe in suicide so I would mess with gang members and pray that they would show up and put a bullet in my head. I later got shanked In a parking lot, slowly and painfully I bled out on the ground. I didn't see a light just darkness. When I died I went to hell and she was in heaven where I could not reach her. However hell is repetition and I had to watch that girl die over and over again.

How does one write a novel set in a dystopian future that's more the stuff on the left and less the steaming pile of dogshit on the right?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8219867
You can't. It'll always be the stuff on the right now. The low hanging fruit has all been picked, and if you wrote a book like those on the left now, in this day and age, it would be seen as extremely naive.
>>
>>8219867
> research oppressive political regimes
> read classic dystopian novels to see how the concepts have been expressed
> research political concerns of our time (i.e. UK leaving the European Union, Donald Trump, ISIS, etc).
> create a protagonist distinctive from other dystopian novels but not so distinctive that the reader can't self-insert themselves into the protagonist's position
> conflict is key: sew distrust with authority for the protagonist that gradually builds
> give the protagonist a pet dog. bitches love dogs.

Been writing poetry for 10+ years, next week I'm doing a reading in a bookshop in front of about 50 people.

There's 3-4 guest poets, then an open mic. Usually the audience is appreciative.

Any advice?

Post some material, anon.

So, say I really like the stranger by Albert Camus. The story itself was a bit dry and bland while I was reading it, but for some reason it really stuck with me. If I was looking for something that has that sort of shock wave of intellectual effect in your brain, but was also more engaging to read, what would you recommend? And you don't have to say it, I confess to being a pseudo intellectual.

It shows.

If you want a real brainfuck and insight into the truth of things, read these:

>Mein Kampf by Hitler
>On Women by Schopenhauer
>Ride the Tiger by Evola
>The Culture of Critique Series by McDonald

Read these and you'll know how the world and people work. You'll be redpilled in no time

I hear that invisible cities is really deep, I think I'll pick that one up as well.

lit, am I fucking alone in feeling this way??? I started like 5 books and I have this tendency to start books and not finish them because I get bored. Does this happen to other people too? I often start a book and feel like it has nothing of deeper value that I am going to be walking away thinking about, so I put the book down because I don't want it to become a chore that makes me hate the book.

do you write in your mother tongue? i find it almost obscene, both the experience and the postwriting reading. i can only write in other two languages i know, it flows quite smoothly in them. on the other hand, i can only have full philosophical discussions in my 1st language. i can have them in the other two, but a conscious effort is needed.

what about you anon, whats your relationship to language? and to writing in particular?

Beckett prefered writing in French, can't think of any other famous writers off the top of my head though.

Can someone pretty please with a cherry on top explain why the hell people like these books?

Even real writers talk about them like they're hot shit. I do not understand. Is this a giant meme or something? I had to immediately stop reading when the Mary Sue protagonist with flaws like "some teachers hate him because he's SO good at stuff!" and "oh he's brash which can get him into trouble sometimes that little rascal!", with color-changing eyes and bright red hair, who is not only the greatest, but the youngest to ever be so great- and he can learn anything almost immediately and he's the best musician ever and he's so good looking and bangs basically every single girl worth banging in the story (but apparently this is okay because he spats with one girl in particular, which instantly makes up for all the mary sue-ness?)-

When this fucker straight up white knights a girl and instantly has the perfect comeback to embarrass and anger the bully and win the girl over, I had to stop reading. It was like Good Will Hunting, as written by a thirteen year old girl.

I gave up on the book when Denna was losing at cards.

I thought
>huh, this is refreshing
>normally she's an unbearably clever Mary Sue
>it's nice to see she's not perfect at everythi...
Oh wait, it was all a clever ruse. She was just lulling everyone into a false sense of security. Denna wins!

Fuck it.
>>
You have to talk about them while knowing what they are.

If we're talking fantasy stories for young ones, it's an alright book. If we're comparing it to literary fiction of high caliber, it's absolute garbage.

It's like reviewing OG Maco's 'U Guessed It' and saying it's shit because it's nowhere near the quality of Bach.

If you like this shit as a teenager or a kid, it's okay; but if you are an adult who would be able to comprehend something beyond a children's book and still read this type of literature on regular basis, you're wasting your time and potential, and that's bad.
>>
>>8219577
It's a Bard, a performer, telling his life's story. Very definition of an unreliable narrator. That's why he's so perfect.

Having said that, I still hate the story as well. Denna and Kvothe are fucking insufferable. I like the prose though, the guy can write.
