Hate to break it to you sheeple, but capitalism is bad, you guys. Heh, not like you'll do anything about it, you'll just keep buying things you don't need while staring at the television like good sheep.
In reality you're just going to die, and all your precious things you spent money on will be all for nothing. Because you're dead.
All that stuff they taught you in history class? Well I don't want to say they lied to you, but they sure didn't tell you how it really happened.
Once upon a time, things used to be real. Now they're fake, all made out of plastic imported from china. You could probably say the same of yourself.
Hi! I'm new to /lit/ and was wondering if you guys/gals could point me to the more high regarded SteamPunk works of literature. No joking about corsets pls and ThankYou.

Anons, which translation you have? What is the difference between other translation?
Mine is Rolfe Humphries: I am enjoying it because it's easy to understand even though it's a verse translation.
What's yours?

Good afternoon, /Lit/!
Today I'm feeling the urge to delve into witchy business. What books do you guys recommend?
>>8226014
Fedora as fuck. I bet you're a wiseman, or a sage.
Serious answers?
The White Goddess might be a good place to start. Very inspirational to modern neopaganism. From there, you're best bet might be to check out Gardner, he's like the founding father of Wicca. Post-Gardner wicca is slightly bullshitty but if that doesn't sate your lust then check out Drawing Down the Moon and The Triumph of the Moon. For a fun fictional story about witches, you might also try to read The Mists of Avalon. It's a re-telling of the Arthurian mythos from a feminist neopagan perspective.
But if you're not a fag or a chick or interested out of pure sociological curiosity, I would advise looking into traditional craft. Some good books to start would be The Call of the Horned Piper and The Pillars of Tubal Cain. Austin Osman Spare was also supposedly initiated into a witch cult and has a cool system of sorcery which scared even Crowley and caused him to be designated a black brother. From Spare, you can eventually move onto Chumbley who is the final boss of occultism.
A lot of these titles can be found in the mega archive on /x/'s /occultism&magickgeneral/ threads. Good luck.

Brida by Paulo Coehlo, I thought it was pretty good
Any good literature on hermits/recluses? Or on being a hermit?

The novel I'm currently working on, entitled 'Floating Above the Crowd'.
Saint Simeon Stylites
>bored on a Thursday afternoon
>go into local B&N because no actual bookstore in my area
>out of curiosity look for Mein Kampf in the WW2 section
>this edition is the only one on the shelf
>forward from the translator blatantly insulting Hitler and trying to discredit him right off the bat
>put it down and walk out
What's a good edition of this book that isn't afraid to present the original text as it is?

He meant a translation.
Any tips on writing Sword and Sorcery literature? Likewise, any advice on writing erotic fiction?
I've been reading a lot of Robert Jordan's Conan Chronicles, and I really like that he's found the median between classical fantasy and a more modern style.
I'd like to write a series of short stories about a massive barbarian that fights wizards, steals treasure from ancient monsters, and ravages the wives of kings and plump slave girls.
>>8225887
Conan. You'd like to rewrite Conan.
>>8225887
Well I like fantasy with expansive, complex, meaningful lore. Extra points if you can include the exposition of the lore into the narrative itself.
For erotica just follow your libido. If what you're writing turns you on some people will surely feel identified.
>>8225889
Yes, essentially.
I guess I'm asking what key points I should keep in mind while writing Sword and Sorcery fiction?
The same goes for erotic fiction. What makes a good erotic story?
I've done some digging around on Google, and haven't really found any good examples where someone has found a good middle ground between brutal, medieval fight scenes and tantalizing sexual content.
I guess I want to write Conan, but with more descriptive sex scenes.
Anyone got some surrealism to recommend?

His name was Jesus too. Okaaay.

WTF? What is going on here?
Barabbas is certainly the most interesting figure in the Bible. I wish there were more on him.
Any apocrypha on Barabbas?

That book was trash, and I don't expect the movie to be any different.
>>8225796
The book is excellent, actually, but a lot of Roth's books have film adaptations.
Lol of course they show the explosion right at the start of the trailer because that's what gets audiences interested

Why is this considered a great book? And why it took years until it gained popularity?
it's cleanly written, self-aware but not obnoxiously so, and the theme of life being a constant stream of disappointment resonates with this generation, also, marketing.
>>8225738
>cleanly written
Explain this meme. When is it a merit, and when is it a flaw?
>>8225772
It's a flaw when it doesn't compliment the novel.
