Do you have any authors that you read all of their books /lit/?
Poe, Lovecraft are the only ones who (have) actually released more than 1-3 titles (I won't bother mentioning cases like that)
Also, I won't promise I've read all their material, but I've read very complete collections of their works etc. There's surely a chance that I've missed something small.
>>8267796
No.
Yeah actually, John Kennedy Toole and Barry Hughart.
Thanks suicide and rage quitting!
How does /lit/ feel about "the" list?
Too heavy on Faulkner, in my opinion.
>>8267735
Too much Pynchon, Infinite Jets shouldn't be number 1.
>Moby Dick.
Into the trash it goes.
>>8267735
Don't touch it until summer is over.
So I just finished reading part 1 of Atlas Shrugged. Should I keep going or just call it quits? I heard that the rest of the book is shit.
>>8267678
The fact that you made it that far is a feat in and of itself. You've earned the right to bow out and read some literature rather than pulpy ideology.
>>8267678
I though parts 1 and 2 were good and part 3 was disappointing
>>8267678
the whole book is shit
>read this book assuming that Achilles gets shot in the ankle at the end
I got fucking meme'd, lads.
>>8267670
But it explains to you what's going to happen to Achilles and to Troy, so Homer doesn't have to explicitly narrate it
>>8267670
It's funny that most posters recognize the meme trilogy as such yet they still don't see the biggest meme of all, that being "start with the Greeks"
What did you think when they wheeled this thing in?
What are some good sci-fi books where there's a totalitarian ultra-nationalist space empire like in Warhammer?
Not sure there really is OP. That's why 40k was such a success. The fantasy setting was just Moorcock plus D&D and was good but nothing the world hadn't seen before. Then they mixed in Dune and WW2 and suddenly had something totally new. Big success.
there's the Catholic church in Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" books. they even got power armor, for when they have to arrest unarmed girls.

ah...awesome. thanks very much. Didn't realize there were mirrors on sharethreads...should have searched first but didn't think to search mediafire. Still, only pack on the wiki with the right address is the Japanese one. So...still kinda true.
This will definitely make it easier to sort out my library.

what the fuck is this doing here?
do any of you write erotica?
No, text analysis software may be approaching the point where it's possible to link an author to anything they write anonymously. I wouldn't want my fap fantasies associated with my serious work.
>implying I'm going to be noteworthy enough for that
niggers tongue my anus
Why would you ever, ever do that when /gif/ exists?
Im moving to Rome in August and before i go, i want to spend the summer learing italian and reading italian literature (using english translations in the begining). Im not talking about works from Ancient Rome, written in latin, but works of literature that was written in the language used in itally today.
What are some essential books/authors i should read?
>>8267543
Not technically Italian but takes place in Italy a lot, I recommend Szerb's Journey by Moonlight, there's some good Rome scenes.
>Pic related is GOAT
>>8267543
Pirandello. there's some Dover dual language books that'll help you a lot if you can put your hands on them.
Do you feel obligated to finish every book you dig into deeply enough? I'm 200 pages into this son of a bitch and I'll be damned if it's not starting to feel a bit like a chore. I enjoy it well enough while I'm actually reading it, but the thought of doing so doesn't really excite me. If I've gotten this far and haven't really connected with it strongly, should I drop it? Or do you guys soldier through it 'til the end?
BM's end is the most crucial part of the book.
You're already an outrageous faggot but you'd be even more of one if you didn't finish it.
>>8267486
Ugh, I guess I'll finish it. It's just so ceaselessly lurid, and while it can sometimes be fantastic (that scene with the judge improvising the gunpowder out of sulphur and brimstone and the company's piss comes to mind), as a whole it's not totally captivating me. I think I have an idea of novel's ideas (though of course it's a bit early to feel sure of that), but I dunno, man... I'm really looking forward to being through with this thing so I can read some other shit.
Do you stick to a writing routine?
Do you write when the sun's up or when the sky is pitch black?
> ITT: Writing Routines
> ITT: Writing tips & tricks
Just recently I found a blank notebook somewhere under all my books for school etc., and I had read about how beneficial it is to practice handwriting - relating to memory, brain function and not become as senile as you might become later on. So, since being an introverted fuck like I am, I declared the notebook for brainstorming and pondering of various subjects, even story ideas if any happen to come into my dull mind, and just basic conversing about stuff that's in my mind. I believe it helps to relieve stress or resembles the idea of talking it out with someone, if that someone isn't available. I also try to write in English, so I might at some point become completely fluent in it, for it isn't my native tongue. I write whenever I have the time.
>>8267503
Where are you from introvert fellow? I'm curious.
Post scriptum: is this blank notebook working for you? I fear to sully my notebooks, but on the other hand I really can't write on OpenOffice.
I've to dismantle my mind and I've to build an effective writing routine. I really fear EVERYTHING.
What should I read to completely lost my mind and/or get schizophrenia?
Just take loads of crystal meth and drink lots of vodka
get a bf/gf.
David Foster Wallace
How much of an effect do you believe the location a work is written at has upon the work itself?
100%
Some
None
i've written something that's gotten great feedback, but people want the main character to be more empathetic. how do i do it without making him into a trope?
>>8267421
You don't. Your main character doesn't have to be empathetic.
>>8267421
>people want
Why do you care what people want? Tailor a character that fits your story man. Give him traits you see in people you admire or abhor. Give him secrets, give him shame.
All human personalities are tropes, my man.
double down and make him a rapist.
