The Rules of /lit/
The site given rules suck. In this thread we write our own rules for our board.
Propose the new rules.
disable OP, delete all current posts and archive, remove first half of sticky, leave only wiki. 100% better board.
>>8299101
>no frogposting
>no "what did he mean by this"/"really makes you think" threads
>no "should I read this?", "thoughts on this book?" etc. without starting off the discussion yourself with your own impressions or thoughts
>no shitty identity politics threads like "why can't women understand literature?", "name me one female masterpiece, protip you can't", "what are some great black authors, hard mode nothing about oppression" etc. which is only made to devolve into /pol/ or /r9k/ posting
>no "what is the literary equivalent of [insert non-literary thing]?"
>no screenshot of some idiot on twitter or tumblr voicing an opinion and creating a thread with that as the header without something equivalent of "is she right?"
>no reddit-related threads

Nailed it
which one is best in terms of exposure? I have a tumblr but not much traffic there. so wordpress, blogger, what?
I did have a wordpress account that got a bit of traffic for whatever reason. that was political though, so more general-interest.
Where do you guys post your writing?

someone please prune this abortion of a thread asap
>>8299070
Please lets be frank: no one reads fiction published online and those who do just skim read and forget quickly. The internet is not a viable forum for publishing fiction. This millennium is not a viable time to be writing fiction if you seriously want people to read it. Just look at the content of this board, representative of basically every other book "hobbyist" board there is online. The same set of well worn classics read and discussed by all, with zero room for variety or newcomers (or even any work which isn't at least ten years old).
Writing is not a viable option in general. It will make you miserable to attempt to pursue it, specially given that it is all about WHO you know not the quality of the writing. And your quality of writing is, lets be honest, probably mediocre anyway.
why are spoken word poets so embarrassing to the rest of us?
because they are shit at poetry
>>8299063
They aren't. You just seem to think a few tumblrinas are representative of "spoken word poets".
But sure, let's have another SJW/woman/liberal hate thread.
>>8299063
they aren't
back to >>>/pol
What is the best encyclopedia to greek mythology? providing basic yet comprehensive profiles of the many gods and goddesses?
>>8298951
Honestly just read Homer and whatnot. Stuff like Hamilton's Mythology basically just use those stories as sources and give wikipedia summaries.
>>8298972
So going into the Iliad and the odyssey blind is an ok thing to do?
>>8299089
I srsly hope you see the irony of your post
Is he right?
Does /lit/ know the source of Marx being afraid of him? I can't find anything.
literally tl;dr but Marx never actually met Stirner he only knew him through Engels so I don't see why he would be afraid of him when Marx was in England and Stirner was in Germany
>>8298890
Not physically but his work and thoughts I assume.
>>8298879
Stirner was and is a non-entity. He still is. No one except this board gives a shit about him
I work as an editor at a news website. I recently wrote a piece critical of Islam in the wake of recent terror attacks and submitted it to the opinion editor who works in another office.
He said that the piece was "very well-written and well-argued," but the other editors didn't want to publish out of fear of the site being called anti-Islam.
I submitted it to two others places, who rejected it as well. Any ideas for some right-leaning publications to submit it to? Ones who care more about content of the piece than identity or credentials. Email addresses of the editor or submission for would be helpful, too.
>>8298825
>I work as an editor
how did you get the job?
Breitbart, probably
Right-leaning publications just care about a different identity
I have a serious problem. I became so self aware that I can't think of coherent phrases or spit out words fast enough without serious struggle or analysing too much. It definetly wasn't like this two years ago.I was fast, sharp and quite smooth. Now it's all gone. I am but the shadow of what I was capable off. Did I get castrated? Is it a stress thing? Do any of you know about this issue? Can't wake up.
>>8298822
Of* this is what I'm talking about.
Read some Gurdjieff or listen to these cool piano songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rasho1zv-co
>>8299284
I listened to that link and now I'm cured! Thanks anon!
I've tried searching for a complete summary of this book, but I haven't been able to do so.
Now, I'm really curious, as in one I found out that Valiant's love interest becomesJessica's diminutive twin sister, Joellyn.
Could someone here share a full summary or give me the ending at least, please? (Of course, using the spoil tags)
Or could someone tell me what is the ideal place to ask for a book summary?
>>8299098
Reading the book.
>>8299112
That would take away the whole objective of not reading it, wouldn't it?
Don't you ever ask for a spoiler before?
Thoughts?
yeah
DUDE WEED LMAO

Hey preyed on the wishful thinking of the underground psychedelic users in the 70's-90's. Made friends with two outcasts in their own fields and wrote a few more books about how well they could pontificate aimlessly and recycle scifi memes. His brother is pretty awesome though.
Lovecraft thread
Why is this guy so based?
JOSHI: A MYSTICAL POETIC GENIUS
HOUELLEBECQ: HIS PRIMORDIAL FEAR OF NI-- "THE OTHER" MADE HIM GOOD AT DEPICTING IT
GRANT AND OCCULTISTS: HE WAS CHANNELING REAL SHIT AND WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE
POP CULTURE: LOL CTHULHU FTW XD
ME: WHOA, SPOOKY
Because his name

describe your dad in a short poem
Now that I'm older
And certainly bolder,
I enforce my will
And, others' will, kill.
But never could I
Nor would I e'er try
My father to trick,
He's got a dad dick.
You caused my disorders but I know you just meant well.
well-versed in song and culture--yes he is!
singing through a strained grey muzzle he is!
after a dram, sunken in wrinkled pores
sings a beast i haven't heard before
prae judicium in bounding octaves
this isn't the man that sang to me before
lame poem about dad that gets racist after a few drinks

Also, the value of a merchandise is determined subjectively and not by the hours of work dedicated to produce it. Therefore, the idea of capitalists stealing the surplus value created by the workers is bullshit.
Prove them right
Now that I finished this list where do I go next?
What are your favorite books which aren't on this?
>Pedro Paramo, by Ruolfo
>The Book of Sand, by Borges (if you liked The Aleph)
>Severin's Journey into the Dark, by Leppin
>The Obscene Bird of Night, by Donoso
>short stories by Mark Twain (and if you like them, then The Mysterious Stranger)
>Cat's Cradle, by Vonnegut
>>8298685
I second Pedro Paramo. Rulfo only wrote 2 books. Pedro Paramo and El llano en llamas. Both are generally sold together, at least in my country, and both are very recomendable, and not very long at all.
I am surprised by how highly ranked Dubliners is. I owned it as a kid and found it extremely boring.
>>8298593
Orlando Furioso
Faerie Queene
Ivanhoe
Salammbo
Zorba the Greek
Aeneid
Epic of Gilgamesh
I thought it was pretty alright. Does he have anything better?
>>8298570

>>8298570
