What the FUCK happened?
King lost his fucking mind
I hope when King dies someone can reboot the Tower series and make all books like the first, Roland wandering the dying, weird world, occasionally massacring towns

What does /lit/ think about Star Trek books? As a fan of the show, I like them a lot. Does anyone else like them?
They're pretty cool scifi. I remember liking the Corps of Engineers novellas.
The Blish books tend to be the cream of the crop. They're very pulpy though
Literally only read trek fanfiction
I thought Purity really came together in the last half, but it's nowhere near as good as Freedom and The Corrections. It felt like everything was backstory. Best chapter was Tom's memoir.
I thought it was a bit of a contrived mess, like the worst parts of the corrections (chips second half) but the whole book.
There were some good parts, the family drama. But the global intrigue always destroys my willing suspension of disbelief when it comes from Franzen.
Still, that scene... [spoiler/] I'm gonna fuck you in the ass [/spoiler] yikes. Intense.
This man...in my country, he is everything...

I hate people who likes Rimbaud tbqh
9 times out of 10 they only say the like him because of that stupid picture where he is an 11/10 and haven't read anything written by him or if they have they have not understand it or find it moving at all.
I haven't read any Rimbaud but you can tell when people are pseuds with vague or "ohsoprofound" obscurintic responses.
Fuck Rimbaud.
Are there any good books on the Aboriginal Dream Time stories?

>have nice ass picture in my head which I'd like to translate into word
>even if I could the reader would not see it exactly as I do

female sexuality terrifies me so i try to compensate by taking copious amount of prescription amphetamine meds

>scared you'll fuck up a good story with your shitty prose
I'm hungry.
Have you noticed the huge irony that the people who go on about the Ancient Greeks being so important wouldn't pay any attention to Socrates or Plato or Aristotle if they were born during their era? They'd be too busy wanking over the Ancient Egyptians.
And so on back in time, until the first group of humans would have some people claiming that Neanderthal mud paintings are the most profound thoughts of all time and only a disgusting pleb could think otherwise.
>>8328889
Would we? I imagine most of us would be illiterate peasants who knew nothing about history and wondered where the sun went during night.
What a pathetic fallacy.
>>8328889
Neanderthals didn't make any "mud paintings", you dumb fuck.
I finished reading Dubliners by JJ and after each short story I would google its meaning on Sparknotes.
I've done the same thing with all of Steinbeck's short stories and mark twains.
How bad have I fucked up? Is it stupid to do this if I want to fully grasp the stories?
Do you do it?
>>8328879
sounds like a good way to fully appreciate those merry little cracks
>>8328885
FUG
This is how one reads deeply. Looking up critical angles on the literature you read is important. I would only suggest looking into sources other than Sparknotes due to its tendency to oversimplify things - but I can also understand the use of Sparknotes out of sheer convenience.
Anyone know anything about Chinese literature? They publish the most books according to wikipedia. What are they writing?
Lots of propaganda. They jail anyone who writes negative about the government or any politician, and the government censors all the media including the internet.

Interesting to see this. I speak Mandarin but I was under the impression all they put out is fucking trash. Could still be right but 1 of 440,000 has gotta be good.
>>8328845
in my experience it's predominantly independent stories from weibo writers and a lot of kids workbooks.
>people who have strong opinions on books they’ve never actually read
>>8328837
>"I don't want to read that book. It looks shitty."
>"oh my god, how do you know it's shitty if you haven't read it?"

Well, /lit/, I'm about to settle in with pic related. I've got a cup of tea, a top floor apartment with a view of the city, and a nice fluffy papasan chair. Is there anything more comfy?
>>8328808
