Any books for fatherless sons?
I'm 18 and don't know anything. I've been raised by the internet(redpill and r9k), so I'm clueless and pretty fucked up./
I also have a porn addiction and no friends. No skills or talents.

zizek is a hack
I've been trying to squirrel away clips of Zizek talking about Marx brothers movies, but I only saved a few although I've heard him bring them up about 10 different movies/examples of them.
He has an interesting take on the Marx brothers as Id, Ego, and Superego in Pervert's guide to ideology
Patrician writers thread.
I am somehow very bored by him. I like him sometimes.
What's with the fetishization of being 'patrician' on here? It's a meme right?

Borges has just enough mysticism yet is anglicised to the point of normality for precocious teenagers and 20 somethings to latch on to him as some kind of alternative to the mainstream Hemingways and fitzgeralds

I've been trying hard to get into Heart of Darkness. Having read it, I feel like I get the just of what Conrad was trying to say. However, i feel as if I am missing something. All essays and video lectures I have found on the book either just summarize the plot with no reflection on the meaning, or focus entirely on modern left-leaning topics such as "is Conrad a racist and sexist."
Can anyone point me to some good essays on this book? I really want to study what Conrad was trying to say to his audience?
>>8331534
why not just go to your university's library? There's probably better essays there than anything you'll find here
>>8331565
I'll make it a point to go there once school starts. I actually just graduated high school. think there would be anything good at a local library?
It's an ambiguous text hailed as a commentary on colonialism that doesnt really talk about colonialsm and more just insults people by showing "look these white guys are as savage as these savage black ones"
Apocalypse Now is infinitely better
Are any of you interested in joining a ring of writers and working on an online magazine / literary journal? There are currently five of us but applications are still open, we are looking for people with experimental styles, and also planning to do 'jam' writing projects in the vein of TLOTIAT or Hypersphere (although obviously we are not going to be working on anything of a comparable length for the time being).
We will potentially be expanding into short story collections or novellas given time, however this is completely dependent on how well our magazines are recieved, so for now that is our main focus.
If you are interested then please fill out this application including a <1000 character short story, successful applicants will be contacted within the next couple of days.
https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/d/1k_L1EIrXJ90OpmbrCcB2yKVgmlSzsFCeTWDrMXL3gnQ/
Also I have sent out emails to all successful applicants that submitted before this thread was made.
Here is something written by a member to give you an idea of what you can expect
Help me, /lit/.
I've always had difficulty to appreciate the beauty of style, of prose itself without its meanings and images - cadence, rhythm, and the other mystical elements that make Nabokov's and Joyce's writing so pleasurable to you. I easily get the meaning, I can appreciate the images, if I am in the "imagining" mindset, but the rest just seems beyond my reach, even if I discard meaning completely and focus entirely on it.
Is there still hope? Is aesthetic appreciation innate or must it be developped?
In the later case, how do you read, /lit/? Explain it to me as if I had no clue how to read.
Picture hopefully not related.
if you lose hope merely because reality disappoints you, then you never had hope, just optimistic expectations

I just had the optimistic assumption that I could learn to appreciate the beauty of style, but I am starting to doubt that.
Shall we play a productive game?

Did anyone else find Beyond Good and Evil just a book of paradoxical nonsense with a philosophy which is scientifically and politically useless?
Or am I just reading this wrong? I read it with a hint of annoyance due to how infuriatingly hypocritical and contradictory the entire text is.
>>8330434
That's a horrible place to start. Read On the Genealogy of Morals; Nietzsche makes a coherent argument in that one.
>>8330434
>a philosophy which is scientifically and politically useless
for you
It's so funny, I feel like there is a thread every day with someone starting Nietzsche with Beyond Good and Evil and it's true-- it may be his worst book to start with by a long-shot, and alot of his work is already pretty opaque without having read the other stuff.
I too started with BG&E and I wish I hadn't. The Birth of Tragedy or Philosophy in the Tragic Age of the Greeks followed by Birth of Tragedy is, in my opinion, the best place to start.

>>8330265
What the actual fuck is that
Next time try clock her on the androgynous head with a wooden baton then ask for the current time. After she tells you the current time, tell her that you are content without knowing the current time because it's already the future and the asking of the current time was a carefully-constructed ruse to hear her nearly-angelic voice. Kiss her pink smoochmouth gently then have children. She will resist the temptation to drug you with xanax, though, that temptation will subsist with the act of drugging coming to completion while you pop zits into a large mirror in her bathroom (the one connected to her bedroom). Existence is futile, you tell her while drugged. What is the answer to this question?
