Have you considered becoming a priest or a theologian? You'd have all the time in the world to read and study, in fact you'd be expected to do so, and being single wouldn't be a problem.
I'm actually joining a Trappist monastery in November. I've visited twice this year, and the second time I asked if I could join. They explained that it involves a strict routine and hard work etc and I said that's fine. We'll see how it goes.

>Trappist
are you a sincere christian? Or just joining for the lifestyle?
becoming a Buddhist monk and going to live in seclusion while meditating all day is my backup plan in life.
I've only recently got into reading and I've just finished >image related
I know this is probably a pleb question, and I'm sorry to waste all of your time, but where do I go within the literary nonsense genre from here?
I'm prefer to stick with the English before reading American, but if the next logical step from this is an American author, so be it.
I googled about this but I'm finding it hard to distinguish between childrens' novels and novels adults would appreciate.

Have you read 1984? I feel like it's a really good crossover from YA into adult lit. People on here talk shit about it but even now that I've moved into more dense and difficult works I still am really fond of that book.

Jonathan Swift
'literaly nonsense' is not a genre. Maybe satire is what you mean?
anyone have a good companion for me to read with this shit? just started and got to the genus description, and pretty sure i know what he's saying, but want to make sure i'm not completely missing it. or would like to hear someone explain his categories - that would work too.
aristotle general

also - just to make sure i'm not retarded - aristotle on logic is often used as a synonym for the six books of the organon, no?
Why do you want to read him (his logic in particular)?
>aristotle on logic is often used as a synonym for the six books of the organon, no?
Presumably.

Mythology is pretty interesting desu.
Need a new read, any good fantasy recommandations?
Finished Wheel of Time, Stormlight and kingkiller chronicle among others. Would prefer something else than Sanderson as his books often follow a general formula
Try the Malazan Book of the Fallen series - if you're the kind of person who was able to finish the WoT it should appeal to you, it's a very long series but incredibly well detailed and developed, to the extent it could very well be a history of a fantastical world more than just a fantasy series.

I'm curious to understand the reason behind this post
I'm looking to start Crime and Punishment, and it will be my first time reading a translated book of this magnitude.
Up until recently, the standard translation seems to have been held by P&V.
Has anyone read the newer Oliver Ready edition?
I've read both. P&V is better IMO.
>>8347040
Isn't it about Jews?
Don't read it then. I only read redpilled books that make me feel happy about being white and a fat virgin.
>>8347045
I'm in the same position as OP.
Why do you think P&V is better?
Every lit review I've found online says otherwise
"for this will to deceive that is in things luminous may manifest itself likewise in retrospect and so by sleight of some fixed part of a journey already accomplished may also post men to fraudulent destinies." What did Cormac Tortilla mean by this?
This desire to deceive yourself in relation to things you cherish may also affect your beliefs about the past which you previously had a strong, accurate perspective on but which is destroyed, twisted and replaced with spurious beliefs due to this desire to deceive yourself therefore causing you to lead your life drawing on false perspectives and interpretations to guide you and leading you to shit places.

Considering virtually every 'great' thinker from the past would drastically change their opinions given what modern philosophy and science now knows (unless they were too proud to admit wrongness) is there any value in actually reading them given they are wrong about so much just by virtue of the lack of progress of their time?
