uggggggggggggggggggh what the fuck am I reading? It's impossible. She gives you no context to understand what the fuck her vague statements even mean. It's so difficult you don't even know, you're probably gonna say it's really easy too.
>>8376320
I haven't read it but it looks interesting
>>8376523
It's literally a book that you could re-read a single paragraph like 10 times and still have no idea what the fuck she's saying.
>>8376525
excellent
How much of Greek mythos do I really have to cover in depth to appreciate great works such as the Iliad and Odyssey (and of course other pieces but in particular these)? Knowing the gods of course is a must, but what else? Do I have to take a damn Greek course at uni just to get the most out of these things?
>>8376312
Those are the first, you don't need anything before reading them
>>8376319
This, though reading Mythology or something doesn't hurt and those gods and myths are interesting anyway.
>>8376312
The Theogony by Hesiod might help.
What do you think of Victor Hugo?
Better than Tolstoy, not as good as Dickens.
>>8376260
>Better than Tolstoy, not as good as Dickens.
Nice paradox
>>8376264
I wrote that with the express purpose of generating that exact response from you specifically.
Based off of what I've read so far, what would /lit/ recommend I read next.
The most recent was Kafka if it helps.
Read The Bible. /lit/ really fucked up by letting it drop down to #22
>>8376230
>has read V
>crosses with V
what does it mean
>>8376266
Don't underestimate objects
Does someone here know the Epictetus similar to this?
>>8376213
isn't it the same but it ends with "then why call him god?" which is retarded
There's one by Aurelius, Live a good life...
if that's what you're looking for.
You mean epicurus and its in his letter to herodotus iirc
I've recently published my first book and I'm not exactly sure how to categorize it.
Everyone that has read it tells me the usual, "very good work" or "this is amazing", but these are all people that I know. They wouldn't tell me truthfully if it was terrible.
It is written for a new adults audience and the style would, very likely, drive most "refined" readers crazy. There are several obscenities and "internet lango" throughout the book.
If you're bored and looking for a free read, I would appreciate some genuine feedback. I can accept brutal honesty. In fact, I would love it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
I'll bite, Haylie.
You're doing the right thing. Most people on this board are not, it would seem, actual writers. Actual writers just write and write and don't worry about what exactly needs to be read (i.e. 90% of the fucking threads here). They think for themselves, and they do it for themselves (mostly).
That you would be asking for feedback HERE is dangerous - but that you wrote all this is good.
In my opinion, there is some elegant writing. Some of it is very fucking obnoxious. But it is only obnoxious because of the elegance. There's a better balance to be had. These throwaway entries can be cute, but don't overuse them, and don't oversimplify them.
I only read to page 70 but I would probably accept this piece as finished and move on. You can do much better.
Also - I get the impression you're at least bipolar... That's a good and bad thing.
Thank you for sharing. You have actual talent, and that really means something. Keep working, even when you aren't feeling manic.

I appreciate your feedback, thank you.

Are there any particular places you would recommend for literary critiques, anon?
Lit humor thread?
>>8376196
What are the better/preferred translations of Aristotle?

>>8376164
just get the Oxford World Classics
>>8376164

Want to improve my reading speed, any suggestions?
Have you been able improve noticeably?
Is stopping subvocalizing a meme?
>>8376119
>any suggestions?
move your eyes faster.
>>8376119
Learn from the mangoes, read from right to left. Everything goes faster when you know where you're going. Even sentences!
>>8376122
Any eye exercises to improve this, assuming ur not trolling.
We are alive in this place right now, what the fuck?
I'm actually beginning to think nothing actually ends when we die.
DUDE WEED LMAO
>>8376148
You are completely devoid of love, imagination and wonder. You are also not a very brave person.
something touching the main themes from lord of the flies? it doesn't need to be a novel
>>8376084
google "robbers cave experiment"
pretty much lotf irl
pic unrelated
>>8376098
I will, but I guess what I want is a more philosophical approach to the main theme.
On another topic, blonde dudes with nice asses are okay too
>>8376113
>what I want is a more philosophical approach to the main theme
oh i see, you're an idiot. you should have mentioned that to start with.
if you actually did as i suggested you'd discover realistic conflict theory. this is psychology, not philosophy. still, i'm sure there's some other idiot on here who'll point out some pop-thinker whose hare-brained ideas justify your own biases.
I've only heard a few slight references to this story and now want to read it. I heard its a extremely old tale and assume its not that good sense i hear of it only once in awhile but still am interested. Are the any good translations of this story?
>>8376052
Yes, there are.
>>8376060
which one though?
>>8376138
thoughts?
HOW MANY OF US HAVE THEM
What are /lit/s thoughts on Houellebecq?
>>8376024
Based as fuck
Titwanks are overrated
>>8376024
I've read Submission, Platform, and am half way through Atomised. I enjoy Houellebecq, might order his other books.
ITT we discuss The Recognitions. Favorite characters, the Faust parallels, the insane amount of theological background you need to get more than 50% of what's going on.
Fuck off lad. Make a better thread.
>>8376012
that's not true you fucking retard. I'm retarded and I got 95% of what was going on.
>>8376012
What theology do you need to know beyond the bible? Was planning on reading this relatively soon
