Earning Fame, gratitude, glory, respect.
Or empathy, or self-satisfaction.
I want to talk about this book, but it seems like the only things people discuss are the prose and the funny anecdotes. Why is Dixon able to do all this crazy shit like fly, lift that heavy bathtub, visit the center of the Earth?Who is Haligast? What's up with Ethelmer and De Pugh flirting with Tenebrae?

Have you noticed the huge irony that the people who go on about the Ancient Greeks being so important wouldn't pay any attention to Socrates or Plato or Aristotle if they were born during their era? They'd be too busy wanking over the Ancient Egyptians.
And so on back in time, until the first group of humans would have some people claiming that Neanderthal mud paintings are the most profound thoughts of all time and only a disgusting pleb could think otherwise.
bepis
Did you actually put any significant amount of thought into this post or did you just need something to do to fill the time you spent sitting constipated in the bathroom?
How about actually reading a Thucydides or something before posting shit? I will give you a slight spoiler: if what your used to is "Neanderthal mud paintings" (which the quality of your post seems to support), you're in for a wild ride, little frogposter.

OP is actually not a bad apercu
your post sucks
>Bigwig bit Hawkbit
Oh, shit! God damn! Bigwig is a savage! He's straight outta Owsla; he doesn't give a FUCK. He literally puts the "bit" in Hawkbit; I guess that's why they call him Hawkbit. More like Hawkbitch though am I right?
Where were you when Hawkbit got BTFO'd by a real man? He got fucking owned; he got fucking rekt son. Git good scrub. GG no re. RIP in piece bitch nigga, zero fucks given by anyone.
Bigwig confirmed for being alpha as fuck; Hawkbit and his wife's son on suicide watch (although nothing of value would be lost).
It was good my man.
.....Bigwig?

Bigwiiiiiig.
>Is not what Badiou calls the Event, at its most basic, the very rise of re-presentation or appearing out of the flat stupidity of being? So that the Event proper (the Truth-Event in Badiou’s sense) is the For-itself of the In-itself of appearing? Insofar as appearing is always appearing for a thought (for a thinking subject), we can go further and say that the rise of a thought as such is an Event―as Badiou likes to say, thought as such is communist.

STEM here. In the midst of making the world an objectively better place, someone linked me this 'article'. Why I should take philosophy seriously? If people are trying to dissuade me from reclaiming the funding that goes into 'Humanities', and putting it to better use, they're fucking up.
The majority of actually interesting philosophy has always been non-academic, "academic" philosophy is just one of those fields that exist to prevent putting to much downwards pressure on STEM wages.
Also your STEM research cannot make the world an "objectively better" place on its own, most of it will just be used to make fatter idiots live longer while consuming more degeneracy in more high tech electronic form... you need some form of cultural education to balance it to make people actually not just be idiots

They definitely fucked up by linking you continental philosophy. For some unfathomable reason people like to preach about how philosophy isn't irrelevant in the face of modern day science and then fail to acquaint themselves with the philosophy of physics. Read Maudlin, Albert, Shimony, Wallace (no relation), Lewis (also no relation), Bell, and McMullin if you want an actual discussion on ontological issues in contemporary physics.
Zizek is a retarded pastiche of jargon without the thought that sustained it. He's the fucking inside-out skin man of philosophy. Jesus Christ. Watching him talk about real, perennial philosophical issues, just as an excuse to show off how efficiently he can slather his naked Slovenian body with French jargon of stale 1960s/1970s vintage, is like watching Sophia get raped or something.
>In positing a thinking subject as distinct from the "mere" matter from which it arises, do we commit [look, I know this jargon from Badiou], or do we [look, I read the structuralists long enough to adopt their register]? Is it enough to [bet you didn't think I read Lacan too, did you?], or ought we to [get ready for sixteen paragraphs of me proving I get the orthodox interpretation of some essay by Derrida].
Wow, thanks for making my philosophically inclined brain get momentarily happy when it thought you were going to shine some light on dualism, and then rubbing your jargony dick all over it! Let me buy more of your fake books that no one gives a fuck about except untenured women in comp lit departments!
Cult classic or overrated YA trash?

we make charts specifically to render these threads redundant. And yet here we are.
There's nothing cult about it, snowflake. It's more akin to ya trash though.

what are the flat out most absurd books you know?

my diary desu
Just finished this book, quite possible one of the greatest books I have ever read, really. Question is, anyone have any theories on what happened in the end? Mine is that the 3rd man pissing outside the outside was the main character, the man himself. Inside was the little girl that went missing whom the Judge presumably raped and murdered.

Outside the *outhouse.
>>8382341
should have read butcher's crossingit's betterkys, etc.
>>8382484
why do you post this in every BM thread.
Butcher's Crossing and Blood Meridian aren't even the same genre, one's southern goth and the other is anti-western. If anything you should compare BC to Suttree, they have the same basic premise and themes.
Is there anyone who knows this book?
>>8382209
Isn't this the book Palahniuk used for the bomb recipes in Fight Club?
I've heard that some of the recipes in it are specifically (and unnecessarily) dangerous to the user, presumably some COINTELPRO shit.
If you want to blow up the president or your dad or something you're probably better off with TM31-210, The US Army's Improvised Munitions Handbook.
Kropotkin and Bakunin and Czolgosz are pretty cool but "propaganda of the deed*" really isn't a good idea any more.
*here I mean targeted assassination, which is not what that originally referred to (exclusively) but is often how it is used
>>8382239
>"propaganda of the deed*" really isn't a good idea any more.
I would argue that it isn't so much of an idea as it is a description of psychology. When you see others acting out, you are more inclined to act out yourself. See spree shooters and ISIS for reference.
How does one write a script (for a play, mostly) /lit/?
Any tips? Advice?
C'mon you filthy cunts, you aught to know something.
>become well read enough/discerning enough that you can tell the good from the bad
>work your way into writers circles and look into their work
>once you stumble upon something good steal the work and kill the writer claiming it as your own
Alternatively you could just cultivate your talent and with some little hard work write your own without looking for some advice from the hacks on here who are going to offer you nothing constructive.
Look at existing scripts you like and write yours in a similar fashion
What's the best on this list?
literature is not a good medium for surrealism

I don't care, I'm gonna read some of these.
where the fuck can i find goddamn edition 69
what's with the mixed reviews on this book?
is it boring? is it overrated for an underrated book?
gimme the haps
>>8382136
It's a very interesting book written about a boring man. I highly recommend it actually.
I don't know about over or underrated but I sure enjoyed it and would recommend it.
the prose isn't anything special but it has a very nice atmosphere, prepare for FEELS.

What is more effective for your reading focus? Green tea or coffee?
Also, what other substances do you take to improve your reading?
>>8382089
>Green tea
Good choice.
>coffee
Good choice.
I would go with some herbal tea, like ginkgo tea. Maybe hard liquor.
>>8382093
