Reminds me of this video I saw the other day, "How to play Gwent", where this guy talks about how much he loves playing Gwent while he plays Witcher 3, and he tries to explain to his friend the rules and strategy of the game. Well he winds up losing both of the games he plays/narrates and sort of low key blames it on luck, as if he were playing poker. And they uploaded it to their very popular channel anyway.
It's not like it's going anywhere

What does Carpe Diem mean? It translates to "Seize the day" and is "To enjoy the present and not worry about the future; to live in the moment" a good description of the concept?
Also, "Amore Ferus" which can be translated to "Fiery Love.", is "A negative nature of the physical love, reference to passionate, rough sex".
These descriptions were posed to me by someone else, and I don't see how Carpe Diem involves not caring about the future and Amor Ferus involves rough sex.

>I enjoyed Livy's works if they are available to you. I never really cared much for any other Roman historian.
>>8428379
Seconding Livy, who is a blast.
PS if you like Rome, but not other Roman historians (i.e., historians from Rome, not those writing about it), check out Polybius, who's Greek, covers some cool material (Punic Wars), and is famous on his own rite in being one of the ancient world's best teachers of reading and writing history.
Also try Sallust (Roman), he's not super well known but is short and extremely interesting.

Does anyone wanna actually have a discussion about this book? I started "The Zone" section today and while I understood Part 2 pretty well the whole tunnel/shwarzkommando/description of the double integrals thing has made me wanna put the book down again. Also what are your thoughts on the Advent section in Part 1? Where Roger and Jessica walk through London and Pynchon waxes poetic on Christmas and the War? I read it a while back but it still continues to confuse and enamor me. Jesus this book is frustrating but for some reason I keep picking it up day after day out of sheer awe, even after it has frustrated the hell outta me.
Tips. To read a book. Haha, start at the beginning and keep going until you reach the end, broskiz

Thank you? Was talking more about the allusions and how to better integrate (pun intended) the mathematical aspects of the book into the larger themes...but yea you might be right.. maybe I should just read through it

Whats wrong with this sentence:
"Your brain holds as much knowledge as a bucket without a bottom holds water."
>>8428180
>Your brain holds knowledge much in the same way as a bucket without a bottom (more specific term here?) holds water
This is better and more specific
"Your brain holds knowledge like a sieve." is a better sentence.
>>8428204
Technically your sentence is still incorrect. You don't need the "as" right after "way."

Les Muses, l'entendant, cherchent où se cacher ;
Et du Parnasse entier on sent trop la détresse ;
Et revint inspirer du poète la voix ;

À trouver un amant exerçait tout son zèle ;
Qu’il la fallait laisser pour leurs amis rejoindre ;
Qui déjà de l’amour sent approcher l'ivresse ;
