I usually write a fairly brief reaction after I finish a book and I've found it improves my recall. Give that a shot op.

I'm not an author so I can't critique a book. I can say whether I liked the book or not. I can take a stab at the themes of the book, but I am not a peer of an author. Therefore I can't critique a book.

I also highly doubt that you would be considered the peer of an author, so therefore, you can't critique either.

You try to become an author, give up on writing before your very first book, and then proceed to take jabs at what others actually bothered to finish
