Is it good
ye
nah
you're right
I'm going to Japan this November and I want to get a feel for the country through some books. Except I don't know where to start.
I'm planning on reading the best of pic related but anything else? Real life tales and myths appreciated.
My favourite strongly japanese books are probably essays on idleness followed by akutagawa's works.
Have you tried reading selections from the manyoushuu?
What about noh theatre?
It's pretty dry but they have japanese mythology in them and I found a few of them fascinating, especially the one about the sea dragon god thing and the prince.

Cheers anon I'll give them a look

I read it without a degree. I'm gonna go ahead and say you don't need college to stare at lines of words and make them into sounds in your head.

this might be one of the worst posts ever made on /lit/

You pseuds CANNOT be serious.

Believing in objective morality may be a big task... for you.

>tfw you will never get to roleplay as "le mysterious reclusive genius author"
How much fun do you think Pynchon is having playing this role.. I wish I had that opportunity. :/ It would be so fun and would really stroke my ego to have a bunch of people making conspiracy theories about me and having it be so that everyone I meet feels "blessed to be in my very presence" on the basis of being a mysterious recluse... but alas, I do not have the writing ability to get there :/
>>9921189
I like to imagine the people that meet him and don't know who he is, or the people that meet him, enjoy books, and just don't get it. I bet he enjoys these people more than his little cult of followers.
>>9921189
i am already a mysterious reclusive author. i am so reclusive that i don't even send my work to publishers - i keep it all on a thumbdrive that no-one is allowed to see.
>>9921189
You are playing that role on 4chan. It's what you tell yourself whenever you encounter a normie: "I am smarter than you plebian."
And as the bell tolls again – and again it will,
the timeless treasures, once held to great regard…
will perish, like them all.
Inevitability is not a truth to be interpreted,
for we reject Fate, Destiny, and their virtues,
and so into the void, we will fall.
There is nothing that we possess which will
turn back the tides of time, or
cast new reflections upon silence, or
escape the fleeting thought of finality.
And as the chimes strike again, as again they certainly will,
what is now inland will now become isle,
churches and cemeteries, marred and defiled,
everything here will soon become still,
yet all that we have is already gone.
And as the sun rises (again? Time will tell),
the necessary confinements of society still
find us, and bind us, and blind us,
till none stand, and those who didn’t care,
will bear the suffering of those who did.
pretty good

Is it ok for me to post a link to a short story of mine here?
to what end?

To have it read & commented upon by /lit/.
What's it about? Don't post a link to amazon if you self published it on kindle, they banned me for that.
>The “natural,” pre-experimental, or mythical mind is in fact primarily concerned with meaning – which is essentially implication for action – and not with “objective” nature. The formal object, as conceptualized by modern scientifically-oriented consciousness, might appear to those still possessed by the mythic imagination – if they could “see” it at all – as an irrelevant shell: as all that was left after everything intrinsically intriguing had been stripped away.
>>9921099
I agree. Though of course the pre-expiremental world was gross af and eveyrone died early and no one had nintendo switch
Is he the only relevant, worthwhile thinker today?
>>9926742
Definitely one of them. I think he performed better than Zizek in the book they cowrote.
>>9926742
Sure, he has a big part in a college course that has a number of other thinkers.
His guy on nouvelle theologie also completely misrepresents Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange.
Who else remembers the Milbank spam? That was actually a pretty fun time on /lit/. At the very least Milbank is a substantive thinker, unlike Peterson or fucking Land.

Tell me the books I need to read to start getting into occultism and stuff.
I wanna be the next grand mage.
If you're into occultism you need to read the religious texts of the past.
So sumerian, egyptian, chinese, jewish, roman, greek, european, etc.
I'd recommend starting with the sumerians though.
>>9920981
Oh, stuff like "The Book of the Dead" from the egypetians right? Yeah I can do that.
Will try finding some summerians then.
>>9920991
Nah frankly the book of the dead is too advanced and you might give up on getting a proper grounding in the knowledge of the ancients if you start with it.
The sumerian texts are far better imo.
