Is there still merit to maximalism as a literary paradigm?
Everything has merit
Except this thread
Idunno, but it's fun.
>>8491412
It probably has the most merit.
>he hasn't read the greatest book ever written
>2016 years after death
LOL
why is dhalgren a forced meme when hogg was occasionally memed and always in an organic fashion
>>8491373
people think this is the most complex book ever made
Silly OP, he doesn't know there are around a million "greatest books ever written".
Does anyone on here keep a journal?
What for?
Feel like sharing an excerpt?
Without sounding to fedora/beta, I write in a journal to expand and explain my thoughts. To really let it out, because talking about "Is occultism a new age meme?" wouldn't really set well with everyday talk. Even to friends. I'd say it helps, but don't think you are writing some lao tzu type shit.
>>8491766
>fedora/beta
Really depressing that such a simple joy in life as writing in a journal is viewed as "beta." Where did that come from, I wonder.
Keeping a journal is pleasant. Even if you only write in it once in a while or just jot down a few happenings.
>>8491362
I keep one on and off, I have serious issues with anxiety and depression so it can helpful in two ways of stabilizing my thoughts without needing to share them and also trace my sense of identity which I find very difficult
Dhalgren already came out in 1978 and successfully ended the postmodern maximalist genre...nothing can get more complex and better than Dhalgren
>>8491360
correct. Foster's vain attempts to overturn the new order imposed by Delaney was simply an embarrassment
>>8491361
The thing is no white male author has ever wrote a complex work like Dhalgren

What's the best, or your favorite Dictionary? Is a most up-to-date Dictionary truly so valuable? Have you elected to just use Google (Illuminati) to tell you what words mean?
Where do you fall on the issue of words-books, references, etc.
>>8491359
Black's Law
So now Google is tampering with word meanings on behalf of the Illuminati.
Way to go, man. But please >>>/pol/
>>8491420
Don't bring politics into this, bitch. Just post your favorite dictionaries.
So why haven't you read the most important post-war European author?
whose that?

thomas bernhard familia
He's great, but lit is way too stupid for his work.
Is this the best way to into Stephenson? I want something a bit more serious than Snow Crash.
Why do people always ask what "the best intro to someone is"? Just read what you want to by them.
>>8491255
I'm trying to figure out what I want, bucko.
>>8491255
This. I don't think he's an author you really need to "get into". He's very accessible (I have only read Snow Crash, though).
Disregarding all grammar and spelling errors. Is this guy's story telling ability spot on? How is it not the perfect story? (other than the content) I mean how it's displayed and written everything is self explanatory and really couldn't be much higher standing.
https://www.wattpad.com/159904091-michael-and-the-sex-goblin
He has other stories that are just as X-rated, but have an easy to follow pattern that is easy to read.
Discuss please.
NSFW writing. It's very X-rated.
I dunno man, I'm not author but I think it has some potential. Seems to follow a lot of storytelling guidelines right?
>>8491207
It could use some work, the structure is good, but I don't think I perfectly understand the real lust The Sex Goblin has for Michael. That could be conveyed a bit better, other than that, it's pretty much what I would define as perfection.
I could really feel each thrust, each moan, each little whimper that Michael would let out. The author definitely has a way with words. Looking forward to reading more of his work.
You can't expect a serious discussion about this right? Are you joking? I might delete my wattpad after reading that. Who writes this? It has a good pattern and everything but there's so much homoerotica in it. I even laughed. How do we discuss this in a serious manner its literal pornography of a genre I can not define.
Do you think it would be a good idea to have a /lit/ general? I know they're often viewed as cancerous on other boards, but sometimes I'd like to just have some lighthearted /lit/ chat and ask some basic questions without having to create a new thread.
>>8491204
Yeah maybe.
>>8491204
Yeah maybe.
>>8491204
I don't see any harm in trying.
name FIVE authors
>>8491157
Ah ... wait ... fuck ... shit, I can't do it, OP. Good job, you got me. Time to stop posting on /lit/ now, let's all stop the show.

>David
>Foster
>Wallace

>Pynchon
first five that came in: Joyce, Pynchon, Steinbeck, Woolf, McCarthy
Opinions, /lit/?
Reddit books is where they circlejerk about feeling smart from reading literal children's literature.
My opinion is that you should fuck off there and not pollute this board.
>>8491091
Never read it as a teenager but read it last year to see how it influenced LOST and I enjoyed it a lot, you could spin it was a book about British colonialism or the empire something like that but wasn't really that much of large theme.
>>8491104
>I am le master 4chin man cannot discuss a classical work of literature it is le below me and my le elite chon clubmates
Not everything is a contest to see whos the smartest. The book isnt childrens literature and just because you have a bad superiority complex doesnt mean we wont discuss this book.
thx hunni x

????
how is neo-victorian literature not the next step? Joshua Cohen knows this why don't you? Serialization, industrialization, class, science vs. religion, progress, nostalgia, utilitarianism, questions of social justice. People who know what they're talking about need not apply
we are lviing in the dystopian cyber punk future.
The right thing now would be to write about the disastrous global warming future were we run out of water and technology fails us
>>8491087
>how is reheating something from 200 years ago not the """"""""""next step""""""""
>>8491117
that's too easy, we all know that won't happen.
Anyone know of any authors or poets who focus on everyday life instead of any big event?

Got any more humorous Sam Harris quote images?

I'm looking for a new place to start sharing things for a large audience and am tired of using Google Docs.
