Are there any decent cyberpunk books? I started reading Snowcrash a few years ago and put it down due to how cringe inducing it was.

Schismatrix Plus
All Tomorrow's Parties

The Atrocity Archives was smarter than I expected, not sure if it qualifies as cyberpunk though

Bleeding Edge by Pynchon takes the time surrounding the major event of our current postcyberpunk zeitgeist and explores it on a more memorable level, if you get the same crushing devestation of nostalgia and time past that I do, its worth a read

really can't beat audiovisual masterpieces like Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell though, there's a lot of good 90s anime as well,

I'm not proud of it (yet), but it's brief enough that I'd like a critique:

The flesh has rotted away or been eaten, piecemeal, by scavengers. Leathery skin, too tough to rot, cloaks bone in grey, remaining almost wholly undamaged. Far easier to tear a single hole in the carcass and make an entrance than shred the skin. To worm into it through the open mouth, or slackened anus. From between the front legs a jackal emerges with her pups in tow. Their heads tilt to the side as he mimes shooting them.

Life as a whole doesn't make sense to me. All aspects apear to be truthfull, even when they're contradicting one another. I see this patern in everything related to human behavior.
The more I try to understand, the more I'm sent to the dark.
I tanke the stance of not caring that much and just doing my thing as a confident person with self interrest and it seems to be working just fine, but this still messes me up a bit

What's a good book about the history of Islam? Also post any good books pertaining to middle eastern history and culture.

>>

Egger's "A History of the Muslim World" is a good undergrad primer
The Venture of Islam by Hodgson and Lapidus' "A History of Islamic Societies" are for the serious student
The Great Arab Conquests by Kennedy covers the great Jihads
The Truth About Muhammad by Robert Spencer is a highly (virulently) critical hit piece on Muhammed, but very well researched.
>>
>>8492235
how many of these are biased though? I'm just looking for an objective telling of middle eastern history. Just a bit weary of reading anything written by westerners
>>
>>8492244
You will never find an objective history book. Ever. If you think you can you need to go back to historiography 101. Also, Muslims are notorious for whitewashing their history. If you want a good fiction book in this regard, try Season of Migration to the North by Salih. There is nothing wrong with any of the books I listed except for Spencer, which I put in as a spin from the detached academic work of the previous authors.

Also planning on reading Cows too, someone on /x/ told me it was really sick so i'll read it online after american psycho.

>Wood drastically... Wood drastically underestimates the impact of social distinctions predicated upon wealth, especially inherited wealth. You got that from Vickers. "Work in Essex County", page 98, right? Yeah, I read that too. Were you going to plagiarize the whole thing for us? Do you have any thoughts of your own on this matter? Or do you, is that you thing, you come into a bar, you read some obscure passage, and then pretend, you pawn it off as your own, as your own idea just to impress some girl and embarrass my friend? You see, the sad thing about a guy like you is that in 50 years, you're gonna start doing some thinking on your own and you're gonna come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life. One: don't do that. And two: you dropped a 150 grand on a fuckin' education you could have gotten for a dollar fifty in late charges at the public library.

Does this sum up higher education? Can I be an autodidact without some French turd writing a screed against me?

I don't see the justification for an Arts degree anymore. You're saddling yourself with debt that you can't service because there's 25 of you for each job and you have what, your Spanish literature grade, to set you apart.

STEM or the trades: those are the economically feasible options now. Arts degrees are transferring your parents' wealth to a pension program for academics with little tangible return.
>>
>>8492146
We're all chasing a steady supply of pussy, they are both grade A cock blockers. I don't mind fucking people's girlfriends knowing that this is how some of those hipster pseuds think, that new and unique thoughts are the only valuable ones, that putting people down is the only way they feel superior... well it's nice to know that new and unique penises are also sort after.

Sure you can autodidact well at a university library. The public libraries are usually dog shit with dog shit people providing distractions in them. If you were to do it realise that you would be benefiting from the uni reading lists and their library which others pay for. And you would need to be conversing with people who have absorbed different perspectives to get the most out of the text.

This is what I told my cousin. She's at college now. Get a professional/STEM degree or at least a teaching credential. I did philosophy and literature. Now I have a blue color job. The job's not bad and I don't have to exploit anyone, but still, as worth while as the humanities are, they're dead as anything but an academic subject.

I'm trying to get a better understanding of grammar, I generally have a good sense of it, but everyone makes mistakes (except you, Anon).
Is there any books to help, besides just reading novels?
I honestly have no idea what defines an adjective, noun, pronoun, adverb, proverb, or whatever, unless I look it up. I use all these things on a daily basis and would like to remember what they taught me in 1st through 12th grade.
It's embarrassing to write papers in college and get feedback on the paper saying "Did not need to put an adverb here." and not know what they're talking about.

>adjective
something that describes a noun. the word "nice" in "a nice dick"
>noun
anything. literally. any person, place, thing, idea, etc.
>pronoun
a word that takes the place of nouns like "I", "he", "us", etc. Words like "who" and "what" are also sometimes pronouns
>adverb
a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

it would probably be useful to either find a high-level english-language workbook or watch videos online for foreigners wanting to learn english

I too knew absolutely nothing about grammar after finishing high school (we were not taught it). I did an online course on it and it was surprisingly intense.
