I need to read something that will help me gain a perspective and perhaps a direction in life.
I don't need a book to teach me about discipline, as most of those self-help books seem to focus on, as I have plenty of discipline.
My problem is finding out why any of it matters and what my direction should be.
Generally, people recommend fiction like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance or Siddhartha, but I'm really not looking to make any sort of parables or similar to my own life. I just want a nonfiction book that can change my outlook.
So far I've read:
>The Art of Living
>The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck
>The Willpower Instinct
They gave me a bit to think about but they didn't really get me over the edge.

Bury me in an nameless grave!
I came from god the world to save.
I brought them wisdom from above:
Worship, and Liberty, and Love.
They slew me for I did disparage
Therefore Religion, Law, and Marriage.
So be my grave without a name
That earth may swallow up my shame!

"During the day you will approach the frog several times and will utter words of worship... And you will ask it to work the miracles you wish... Meanwhile you will cut a cross on which to sacrifice it."

Always heard that Reading is good for you, that It Can change your life ecc
But what kind of book?
Will reading a novel, like thriller or fantasy have benefits on my Life?
Maybe start with something on how to write in English
>>9924957
I'm working on that
Most fantasy and thrillers and so on are intended to be primarily entertainment, and so are unlikely to affect you in any deep, significant way unless they just happen to have some element that speaks to you personally.
There are exceptions, though.
Ursula Le Guin, Cormac McCarthy, and Philip K. Dick all write (wrote in Dick's case) "genre fiction" with a more literary bent.
>Microsoft Onedrive had a glitch today, lost everything I ever stored on it
>I stored everything I've ever written starting 4 and half years ago on Onedrive, deleting it from my micro laptop to make space when I had transferred it.
>Lost it all
>Literally 4 and half years of writing, gone
I honestly feel nauseated, the feeling to throw up is overwhelming. 4 and a half years of my life, gone.
Is this like the when the writers of old would burn their manuscripts? I feel sick, but will I one day look back on this as my moment of Genesis?

you got what u deserved

You still have what you've learned by writing it. Go back and write the things you remember. They'll be better anyway.
Here's a crazy, mysteriously Egyptian idea I'm just going to throw out here:
Paper.
Ignatius was right.

Why the FUCK is this guy so highly regarded?

Oprah
His books aren't bad - Freedom is quite good.
Does /lit/ print books, whether theirs or texts found online?
Which publisher do you use (ex. Lulu)?
> I want to print some fanfictions I like

Unauthorized printing of another person's work is a copyright violation.
Please?

Thanks
Good to see something worked out well for once.
Where do I start with pic related?
>>9924743
With his first, like you would any writer
Say you're jacking off to a can of minted peas. Over the course of a couple of weeks, try and jack off the same amount, but gradually cut back to half a can of minted peas. then 1/4, 1/8th and so forth. Over the course of 2 months you should be jacking off to almost nothing at all, and the transition to asexuality will be complete. It's not easy, but I hope this helps :)
Satantango or the melancholy of resistance
I also really liked war and war, but its different
what are some /radcen/ books?

The Stranger
>tfw organise to get myself cucked by Raymond
How do you write compelling dialogue?
Less like GRRM and more like Joyce
Read it and see how best to imitate it.
>>9924596
You can't imitate inventiveness. The way you write it, sure, but not the charisma in the phrases.
William Gaddis is the master in chief I shit you not. 10/10 dialogue. He makes nearly everything else read like bearotica self-published fan fiction.
Just marathoned this book. What were my thoughts on it?
>>9924461
Why don't you tell us
>>9924461
No one cares.
>>9924461
That it reads like it was written by someone from 4chan. There were too many strawmen arguments, and all in all it didn't live up to the hype.
Posting some OC, and yes its real.
>Bark Meridian
What makes you think this is even remotely noteworthy?
>>9924394
It isn't. That's why I posted it on /lit/.
It goes without saying that Byron is a good poet. Maybe even a very good poet.
But is he a GREAT poet, purely on the merits of his art? Or is he merely a good or very good poet whose outrageous personal reputation and celebrity elevated him above his artistic station?
I would say the poetic persona can't be seperate from the art.
>>9924404
Agreed - the process of mythmaking, and of the author fictionalizing themselves was as true of wilde and whitman, as it is of byron - as when whitman had a fake butterfly affixed to his finger in this photo
Is pic related actually good?
>>9924252
If you like Faulkner, sure. If you haven't read any Faulkner then just read The Sound and the Fury instead.
>>9924263
I thought it was "better" than Sound and the Fury
>>9924263
Read As I Lay Dying first for sure. Great intro to Faulkner.
