What are some books about learning your place in the world and trying to strive for something better?
Dogs are truly mans best friend.
Fuck cats
That dog is amazing
I love dogs
Why did Kafkas friends ignore his request to destroy his works? Imagine how much better the culture would have been the last 100 years without him.

This. He had such bad taste he actually thought it worth breaking Franz's trust over.

>>8599142
What the fuck are you talking about you chose the books you fucking memed yourself, shitbrains
>>8599142
That edition of Infinite Jest? You didn't get memed enough, is what it is.
Is there a term in literature, for a phrase that is nonsenseical but seems to make a weird sort of sense? You see this a lot of "fairy tales" and Alice in Wonderland-like stories. Where characters mutter something ridiculous yet it has a strange logic to it. Such as "He knows a lot...More than he knows..." or "less thank you think, but more than that"...
Still better than most threads on /lit/ these days. Have a bump, OP.
>>8599135
That's a good question op. There has to be somewhere in the ether. I would imagine that it would be similar to phrases like "otherworldly" or maybe "atypical". But now likely it's something with a negative connotation, like " trippy" or "strange".
What should we call it?
>>8599135
Yogi-isms
Which book should I read to know about Ancient Greek Myths/ Stories? Would like to read everything desu.
>>8599108
Definitely start with Hesiod for the creation myths. You should also read the Odyssey, Iliad, and Aeneid. Ovid's Metamorphoses as well
Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes is a book written by Edith Hamilton
Hey /lit/, help me out. I have this chair that I read in, and depending on which angle I sit in while leaning back the chair occasionally tips over. What is a book I can read that will help me solve this issue?

Also interested, so bump for you.
Looking for Alaska kind of made me feel that way, but not to a great extent.
You Can't Win by Jack Black
my diary desu
I'm writing a fairly long essay about the beginner's guide, but there are certain parts of it I want to examine and feel too uninformed to write about. If you guys know any books about the following stuff and could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.
The importance of opening camera angles in film
The liminal space between sculpture and architecture
Color Theory (probably the wrong name for this, I meant specifically the symbolic use of colors in paintings and other media)
Some thing on textures of paintings
Or studies of nonlinear poetry/ ekphrastic paintings of poems.
Works of literature similar to Joyce writing about Stephen writing the Villenelle
I know its a lot to ask, but I though there might be some books you know of in one of the fields.
¿Que?

What confused you, here? I'd be happy to elaborated (or reiterate if i was unclear).

Why haven't you bowed down to worship Hegel as the savior of all philosophy.
>>8598801
>Why haven't you bowed down to worship Hegel as the savior of all philosophy.
i don't know
isn't dialectics just an elaborate bullshiting tactic?
>>8598801
Sometimes I fear the memes are becoming too dank for me.
why do fricking idiots seem to think about schools of thought within philosophy like they are competing football teams?
"oh im a nihilist, im a so and so" like all they can do is regurgitate some bullshit they read because they wanted to sound smarter..
another thing that really peeves me right off is when some fucking shit kicker, probably uneducated 35 and works in retail, decides to call a phrase they like to apply to every fucking situation theyre in their "philosophy"
"well i tell yu hwat my philosophy is kill em all let god sort em out hurhur"
what is it in people that makes it so easy for them to be okay with regurgitating uncomplicated bullshit instead of understanding and interpreting, and before that keeping your mouth shut.
the same shit happens when trying to interpret literature, they go through the same stock 10 interpretations they use on every book and i fucking hate it
cool
>>8598796
>why do fricking idiots seem to think about schools of thought within philosophy like they are competing football teams?
i don't know
>>8598796
Because people think they are right and think anyone proposing any other philosophy is screwing up the world.
Is /lit/ exclusively for narrative works?
I read a lot of academic literature (perhaps most recently pic related), but it doesn't see many threads for this kind of literature and/or it seems like it might be so niche there wouldn't be enough people who'd read it to have a good discussion.
Read the sticky.
>>8598729
i don't know
Go ahead but don't expect people to give (You)s for obscure texts.
What did you learn from pic related OP?
>Shakespeare mentions clocks in Julius Cesar
Why are we supposed to venerate this hack?
Why would a clock be inside Julius Cesar?
That sounds painful.
I know you're baiting but just saying, water clocks and meridian have been around for a really long time anon <3

>Why are we supposed to venerate this hack?

How to get into Beckett?
Should I start with Murphy, the trilogy or one of his plays?
Molloy
Murphy - Watt - and so on if you want to read everything in the order he wrote it
>>8598565
I'd say start with his plays for the simple virtue they're quite short generally and you get a sense of his project. Then read the trilogy which I would argue is actually the real heart of his work despite his reputation primarrily as a playwright.
Waiting for Godot, Krapps Last Tape, Not I.
Read Godot and Endgame
I'm ordering a hardcover of Moby Dick and a hardcover of the Odyssey, but I need one more book to get the free shipping. What's another essential for my personal library?
Infinite meme

>>8598551
