ITT: times you felt like a book character
I spent pretty much most of the night having violent shits
Meursault all the time desu
Wait
I just realized girls actually have gross sloppy shits in real life sometimes and it's not just a book thing

i wish i could live like meursault
Alright /lit/,
My mum is interested in started reading a Pynchon novel. I don't want her to be put off by something she would find inaccessible and completely dismiss Pynchon because of it.
So I'm gonna pick one for her at my uni library, which one would your recommend she starts with, out of the following ones :
Inherent Vice
Bleeding Edge
Vineland
Against The Day
Mason & Dixon
Somebody's borrowed Gravity's Rainbow & V and forgot to give them back apparently.
Oh, important note : She would read a translation, her English ain't very good, I'm afraid
Inherent Vice, I think. Maybe Bleeding Edge.
Starting with AtD or M&D is stupid if your mum is used to
>reading for the plot
>>8599669
As for Vineland, I've yet to read it, but most people say it's shit, so maybe it's not a good starting point.
>>8599669
>>8599674
Cheers man. Yeah I was leaning towards these two. I'm currently reading Bleeding Edge so I could even explain things if she gets confused or anything.
I believe she's seen Inherent Vice (The film) and didn't enjoy it that much so I'm gonna get her Bleeding Edge I think.
My mother is not, strictly speaking, only reading for the plot but she mostly reads French authors desu. She likes Dosto.
I haven't read a book in 10 years, and I've never read erotica.
I want to write erotica stories and novels. How should I go about this?
Play X3: Reunion and learn as much as you can about the Khaak so you can write good stories about Khaak.
>>8599619
You should give up the stupid idea. You obviously have no desire, knowledge, or experience to draw on. Pick something you actually have shown some enthusiasm for. If no such thing exists, remain in basement until death.
>>8599619
Start with The Story of the Eye.
Also read the Iliad to see how penetration should be described.

some with the communists, whining 'bout the bourgeoisie and oppressed classes,
Roll a blunt, laugh, drink some milk, and adjust my glasses, Make my own way through the dogma, out of the reactionary masses,
I acted for my ownself, my self, put my ego on the top shelf,
coming at the anarco caps, and libtards at full pelt,
people say the world is changing, but it's history on repeat,
let the fanatics go full retard, while I smile and take a seat,
===CHORUS==
Baby, why you acting ""good"" for someone else,
why not act on your own interest, and yourself
First you go for what you want, because it's yours, now go and take it, go for what you want, because it's yours, now take it,
The state and church of god, act in their own interest you see, so why's it bad the same can't be for me?
So I'll go for what I what I want, because it's mine, I'll go and take it, go for what I want because it's mine, I'll take it,

Okay, now open your mind up, and listen here Nietzche,
I'm in your conscious and if you do not hear me you'll be an untermensch Nietzche,
I know that you're lonely, and sad, and searching for meaning, and feeling here, Nietzche.
I know that my influence will carry on and live through your power, now go for it Nietzche,
I think that they're feeling the vibe, I see the lust in their eyes, I see the feeling of power as soon as the spooks come into place and visualise, that's how you fraternatise,
this is egoist advice, and apparently, these people are influenced by the masses, and classes, and looking like asses, and soon they'll mean nothing to me,
==CHORUS==

What program do you use to write in?
I've been using Sublime Text but it's too geared toward programming rather than writing.

>>8599485
Not that guy but ideas I have.
1) An Obelisk shaped Giant structure in midst of heavily populated city. It has been there since the beginning of time(or when the records were kept for time) . Civilization progresses around it. It cannot be tampered, broken, analyzed etc. The inhabitants quickly start ignoring it. Then send a ship in space. Ship after traveling through worm holes and whatnot reaches a blue green planet with humanoid aliens. There is a replica Obelisks of same sort on this planet. same in every way. Except the one on the blue planet is far from civilization under the ocean. These Obelisks are actually milestone pillars of some sort, used by Some god like alien race to mark territory and treasure.
>>8599485
>Gay vampire suffers discrimination from vampire hunters.
This seems like it could be funny.
Shouldn't the integral equal ln(cabin) + C?
>>8599462
it's just convention desu
>>8599462
"log" can mean "natural log" sometimes.
>>8599462
If it's obvious the log is natural log, then its normal to just write log
like do they really think there will be a marxist revolution? or is it more nostalgic/aesthetic appeal?
>>8599404
dialectical materialism can be an interesting way to think about history
>>8599412
i think limiting history to a materialist worldview is so limiting..
Again i study Western Esotericism, so i despise materialism
>>8599416
mah nigga
Is this the next literary paradigm?
That paragraph just turned me into a misogynist
>>8599382
i cant make it through stuff like this, not even a small jpg. my eyes start skipping clauses after the first few then one or two seconds later i'm done.
literally unreadable.
Notes from Undergrad
Okay, so we know the followers are dumb fucking teenagers, but put that aside... Purely as a book, what do you think of it?
I think it has an interesting writing style at it's best, but becomes sappy at it's worst.
Stephenie Meyer literally never wrote a single line of prose her entire life before she started writing Twilight. It's garbage.
>>8599365
I find it extremely atmospheric and I love reading it for that alone but holy hell Stephenie meyer can't into writing.
>>8599402
Yeah, that's my opinion on it. Atmospheric as hell, but she couldn't write a character to save her life.
What edition do you own?
P&V for Russian translations.
i have three: maudes, p & v, and rosemary edmonds
rosemary edmonds is my favourite

How effective is pic related at helping you read fiction? I've just started reading it (I'm on the second level so far) and at this point it seems to be geared towards nonfiction. Does it cover both genres well or is it more of a guide to nonfiction?
Strangely, my post is in some bizarro, question mark page.
I never read that book but they had us read this for AP Lit. This is explicitly for fiction.
But I wouldn't say it made me a better reader.
Picture related actually made me a better English prose reader. English is not my native language though. It might not be too useful to people who already speak English as their primary language.
>>8599298
The entire book basically comes down to "make it quick the first time and read carefully in the second time". I don't think it helped me much.
>>8599312
That book is mostly for dumb fucks who haven't grown a sense for literature yet (like what I used to be).
I need some recommendations for audio books by motivational speakers I can listen to while walking to work.

Do any of you have /lit/ tattoos? I'm thinking of getting a Moby Dick reference tattoo.
I have "I squeezed that sperm till a strange sort of insanity came over me" on my forearm
>tfw the only book that you read this year was one that you read as a joke
>>8599212
How do you read as a joke? You still read the book.
>>8599222
It was Paper Town's - John Green
>>8599224
so how did you read it as a joke
