Is it easier to read than Gravity's Rainbow?
Much.
>>8638689
its got a lot of problems, but its a worthwhile read
>>8639187
What are those problems? I'm also interested because that's my favorite period in history.
Favorite openings line.
HARDMODE: Only the first full sentence.
I'll start
>I sing of warfare and a man at war.
"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much."
A penis comes across the sky.
"Snow-Balls have flown their Arcs, starr'd the Sides of Outbuildings, as of Cousins, carried Hats away into the brisk Wind off Delaware,-- the Sleds are brought in and their Runners carefully dried and greased, shoes deposited in the back Hall, a stocking'd-foot Descent made upon the great Kitchen, in a purposeful Dither since Morning, punctuated by the ringing Lids of Boilers and Stewing-Pots, fragrant with Pie-Spices, peel'd Fruits, Suet, heated Sugar,-- the Children, having all upon the Fly, among rhythmic slaps of Batter and Spoon, coax'd and stolen what they might, proceed, as upon each afternoon all this snowy December, to a comfortable Room at the rear of the House, years since given over to their carefree Assaults."
So damn comfy.
Based on what I've ascertained about various religious and philosophical system, I cannot seem to find any which censure antinatalism while many approve of it and most give it tacit approval. Is it undefeatable?
>>8638563
Elaborate
>>8638563
If antinatalism -- as you say -- is true then why haven't we killed ourselves yet?

So lets talk about this, /lit/
It has been a good 2 years since Iv'e read it and honestly I still don't know how to interpret the ending.
For me, the state in which we eventually find V. is a culmination of all the rumours we have heard throughout the novel. A collection of fragmented images and stories that now constitute a reality (which makes it rather modernistic imo). Stencil's quest borders lunacy as he tries to follow the trail of someone that may not even exist (or is just multiple people). The fact that he tries to find more leads even after V. Is 'destroyed' just shows how he tries to string together unrelated events, rumours and stories in what is a delusional, paranoid search for something (I imagine Veisshu).
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I felt the point of the ending was we're all just inanimate objects.
>>8639182
>t.potted plant
I think that you are a faggot
Alright /lit/, I've devised a master plan to escape from my shitty life. I will get religious. However I do not want to kneel to some gay religion like Christianity or Islam so I'll have to figure this stuff on my own. Recommend me literature that will make me see godliness and give me devotional energy.
>>8638530
Start with "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything"

well idk about bowing down and being a bitch but i do know quantum mechanics is pretty eye opening.

Who else /literarygenius/ here? I'm not shitposting or being ironic when I say that I am going to write the next great, and I mean truly great novel. All my professors believe that I am extremely talented, and I know that I am even more talented than they believe. I have always blown people away with my incredible writing and depth of thought.
>>8638524
Hehe!! XD
>>8638524
Why do you have to tell us though? Go write youre book faggot

im going to do this challenge: reading a book starting with the 18th century BC all the way to the 21st century.
my first tale will be the Epic of Gilgamesh. what are some stories i must read circa 17th century BC to 1st century AD?
>>8638368
What a retarded 'challenge'
Cool challenge. I'm not well versed in ancient literature, so I'll just overtly shitpost. Good luck though, and I hope someone can be more helpful than me.
My great great great great grandfather's diary desu
what text are you using for Gilgamesh? I'd like to give it a read as well?
Been awhile since I've been on /lit/
Whatever happened to /lit/'s project: GUIDE TO READING WESTERN PHILOSOPHY, FROM THE GREEKS TO NOW?
Can someone link the current/most recent version.
https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1y8_RRaZW5X3xwztjZ4p0XeRplqebYwpmuNNpaN_TkgM/pub

This is definitely not the most recent version. The analytic section isn't even developed. It used to have Frege, Russell, Wittgenstein, etc.
It's dead after /his/ was created.

Is he the Joker of philosophy?
Why do so many edgy teenagers like him?

Why do you feel the need to post this thread every day?
>>8638170
I never posted this thread before
>>8638157
>Why do so many edgy teenagers like him?
Because adolescence is the age of finding one's true self. Which is what Nietzsche did, but on a global scale.
What the fuck is the new adult genre?
I came across a booktuber review on youtube titled "new adult recommendations," and thought, "cool, now i have another place to talk about books other than the pseuds on /lit/." But, apparently, new adult means ya for women in their twenties.
What the fuck /lit/? Why are women so against reading the canon, that they would invent new genres to read after they get too old for ya?
>>8638139
It's YA++.
Basically they're segmenting YA's recent explosive appeal, fine tuning it to every group of readers from mid grade at the younger end to new adult at the older.
Blame Harry Potter and the Jews.

>people don't want to read boring drivel written by 19th century white guys

Are there any books similar to The Alchemist which tell a story but also have some sort of philosophical message in them? Also, is pic related a good book
>>8638131
That's a great book. Absolutely fantastic.
>>8638131
>the alchemist
either this is bait, or you are extremely new here
>>8638131
>Are there any books similar to The Alchemist which tell a story but also have some sort of philosophical message in them?
Way too many. And a good chunk of them do a better job than Coelho and his bland, uninspired writing. What type of philosophy are you looking for, though? Because The Alchemist and its "philosophy" are mainly inspired by Eastern philosophy.
If you want that, just read Meditations.
>Also, is pic related a good book
It really is.
