Are there any books on the monastic life that /lit/ would recommend?
Next week I am beginning an introductory period at a Benedictine monastery in Colorado and may live there indefinitely afterwards. I'm not religious, but I know the bible well and am just looking to escape society for a while.
I'm currently reading Huysmans.

Did Houellebecq inspire you?
Interested in this as well.
So in Lolita, Humbert says she has a fever and that 'her brown rose tasted of blood', does that mean he tongued her asshole and tasted blood or am I missing something?
>>8661940
He probably didn't rim her while ill. But he is alluding to her having blood in her stool
I haven't read it. Post the paragraph
the chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water

Why do people who know they can't know always do this shit? You know not having read the book means your guess contains less useful information than the posed question, it certainly saves your time of typing and ours of reading your completely random, stupid guesses.
Louis Ironson: Well, oh boy. A gay Republican.
Joe Pitt: Excuse me?
Louis Ironson: Nothing.
Joe Pitt: Oh, I'm not... no, forget it.
Louis Ironson: Not... Republican? Not Republican?
Joe Pitt: What?
Louis Ironson: What.
Joe Pitt: Not gay. I'm not gay.
Louis Ironson: Oh. Sorry. It's just that sometimes you can tell by the way a person sounds. I mean, you sound...
Joe Pitt: No, I don't. Like what?
Louis Ironson: Like a Republican.
Joe Pitt: Do I sound like a...?
Louis Ironson: What? Like a Republican? Or do I?
Joe Pitt: Do you what?
Louis Ironson: Sound like a...
Joe Pitt: Yeah. Like a... I'm confused.
Louis Ironson: Yes. My name is Louis but all my friends call me Louise. I work in word processing. Thanks for the toilet paper.
[Joe goes to speak, but Louis quickly plants a kiss on his cheek before exiting, leaving Joe slightly shocked]
>Harold Bloom considers this part of the Western Canon and one of the most important works of literature in the history of language

Why isn't anybody responding to my thread? It had everything. Progressive vs. conservative shitflinging and cheap barbs. Mention of a popular literary figure everybody on /lit/ is familiar with. Sitcom-y and easy-to-read dialogue. The proper greentext format, and an unattractive picture of an irritating and famous playwright.
I did everything PERFECTLY--so where the fuck are my (You)s?

fuck off, you're not fooling anyone with this low-tier shit
What are the greatest poems ever made? Post some excerpts
'Screvo meu livro à beira mágoa.
Meu coração não tem que ter.
Tenho meus olhos quentes de água.
Só tu, Senhor, me dás viver.
This living hand, now warm and capable
Of earnest grasping, would, if it were cold
And in the icy silence of the tomb,
So haunt thy days and chill thy dreaming nights
That thou would wish thine own heart dry of blood
So in my veins red life might stream again,
And thou be conscience-calm’d–see here it is–
I hold it towards you.

ooo, i read in new york magazine (or was it the new yorker!?) this was supposed to be hilarious!
never read freud but i have become very interested in his theories relating the survival mechanisms of the unconscious to morality and society.
i think pic related is a good step for me better understanding his work and the works of some contemporary critics. ive never actually worked with any of his writings regarding psychoanalysis nor have i read anything it all.
would this be a problem? whats required as prerequisite?
That's as good a place as any to start.
The introductory lectures are fine too.
in b4 positivists shit up this thread

thanks, anon.
I thought Peter Gay's Freud Reader was a really nice introduction
Hated all the other readers I looked at
how come i can't seem to get much done after 2pm? is it all in my head? why is early morning so much better and productive?
Why are you asking us, how can we tell. You have to analyse the problem yourself. Lack of inspiration, motivation, tiredness? Do you eat too much at lunch, dink too much coffee early on?
Working beyond the morning is a meme for normies. You have nothing to worry about
Morning's definitely easier for creative flow, there's science behind it. Don't be too hard on yourself.
I just began College and i am studying the Romanian and English Languages and Literature. I am really affraid that after all this thing will be over i will end up knowing nothing...and that through all those years all the questions i asked will just help me discover a conture of what i should really know. Anybody feeling the same? I am as scared as i can get. Until this day i've been an eminent student and i sort of became aquinted with linguistic concepts. The dean also asked me to prepare a set of questions related to linguistics and filological sciences in order to discuss them in his office next week... i am really nervous and scared. Anyone else finding him/herself in a similar situation?

Is this a troll thread or are you this fucking dumb?
>>8661914
Not op, but what a great response, you surely helped poor OP ease his angst.
What do you mean, OP?
Sup /lit/.
Just got the Oxford Annotated Bible.
What order should I read the books in?
>>8661721
burn it, you'll learn more.
Read the introductory material, it will give you suggestions.
As a wise anon recently said:
The Bible is *the* most normie book in existence. There isn't a special, hidden order to reading it.
Start from Genesis; keep reading until you finish the Old Testament. If you want to read the Apocrypha, you can (and should). Otherwise, read all of the New Testament, in order. It's not rocket science.
To be, or not?
>we are such stuff as dreams are made on
what did he mean by this
>>8661705
He meant that all the world's a stage
and each must play his part
>>8661705
The universe is your will.
Can /lit/ write me my senior quote?
I'm having difficulty of coming up with an original and funny idea due to my crippling autism
