"The story goes like this: Earth is captured by a technocapital singularity as renaissance rationalitization and oceanic navigation lock into commoditization take-off. Logistically accelerating techno-economic interactivity crumbles social order in auto-sophisticating machine runaway. As markets learn to manufacture intelligence, politics modernizes, upgrades paranoia, and tries to get a grip."
So basically, Nick Land is like Dr. Breen in Half Life2, urging us to collaborate with the Combine?
some anon here writes just like Land in Meltdown, but claims he got the style from somewhere else
the book he cited was quite obscure, written by a japanese guy (either english translation or originally in english), possibly sci-fi, mentioned Daivd Bowie reading it (likely untrue) on its amazon page, and read a lot like Meltdown
does anyone know this book or can find one of this anon's posts?

Is Arendt a good writer?
>>9933097
It's political philosophy kino.
Arendt is a good writer, and she exhaustively lays out the roots of how totalitarianism came to be founded.

No, it's a huge amount of shit. She comes at it from a very classical liberal perspective, and is a big fan of the Horseshoe Theory (although she doesn't mention it by name). Don't buy it, find a PDF online so you can see how crap it is for yourself
Alright /lit/, so here's the deal. I recently realized that I have literary talent (don't ask me to prove it and shit, just hear me out here, alright guys), but at the same time, I also kinda realized that deep down, I only want to fuck qts. I mean, after I totally unspooked myself, the only thing left that was totally true was that I really just want to stick my sausage between some hotdog buns if you know what I mean ;). Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that I will use my talent to create a cool artistic identity to help me pull in the qts. What is the literary identity that I should go for? What is the one that the ladies like the most? ;) Should it be "tortured literary genius who stays up at night furiously writing super depressing stuff (whoa.. this guy is taking the weight of the world on his shoulders.. what a man.. [but in reality I've never had a real job with real responsibilities xD])," or "passionate sensitive poet who can write sonnets to impress the ladies (I'm just a nice guy, only I know true love in the world... [when I actually just wanna stick my pretzel in some pretzel rolls if you know what I'm saying xD])" or "I'm really fucking smart, (and deep down I know it and think I'm superior) but also I'm just a normal dude, I like to watch die hard and smoke weed with the bros!!" (like DFW, bless his soul xP) or should I be one of those roleplaying writers who take random ideals like "aesthetics" to the max just because it looks cool and manly and makes me feel super cool (like Mishima)? what about "dark, serious writer guy" like Kraznahorkai (lol, look at pic related, he pulls it off really well) or "hyper ironic feminine literary guy?" or "literary reclusive genius, whooaaa look how mysterious I am, and look I'm both a GENIUS but also kinda shy, isn't that cute? (but in reality I actually just like being a recluse because it really strokes my ego and makes me feel super cool and mysterious xD [like, I'm going to the bar, and no one knows who I am, but deep down, hehe, if only they knew I was such a super genius, hehehe, the mere mortals in my presence hehehe] xD)" I'm not too sure what the qts are into these days, so let me know. Also, have you guys ever tried out any specific literary identities, and if yes, how did they work out? Did they get a lot of qtpies, or not?

what the actually fuck
At the end of history, where everything has been done already, and no one can sincerely hope to do anything or be anyone without being ridiculed for reenacting a cliche, there exists an elite sect of cliche-busters whose self-appointed task it is to ascend to the highest mountain of Already Been Done Before and scream out the names and descriptions of all cliched archetypes that have already been done before and no one should ever embody them. Year after year the Postmodern Ennui Squad reenacts its own reenactments of its own reenactments of not being naive enough to ever fall for a cliche and bore everyone by doing something that's already been done before. Without them, humanity would be doomed.

What kind of glove are you meant to wear when reading old rare books so you don’t fuck them up?
Gloves designed not to damage the books.
I'm pretty sure it's a condom on each hand.

the usually wear cloth gloves, I think. probably treated in some way.
What does it take to get published these days?
Being published no longer means anything anyway. Wanting to be published right now is like wanting to have a room full of screaming chimps listen to you, because the room used to be a senate filled with actual humans having real conversations.
Who's going to read your book? The worthless proles who read children's fiction until they're 50? Or the housewives who read self-help? What's your audience?
10,000 followers on Twitter.
Or just shove it on Amazon and let them deal with it.

Is there any book with a similar feel as Wong-Kar Wai's Chungking Express?
Also, general book-similar-to-film/album/game recommendation thread?
>>9932938
Game of thrones

Wong Kar Wai is heavily influenced by the writers Manuel Puig and Haruki Murakami
I still hope that one day I'll get a recommendation of a book similar to this
Hey /lit/. I've just finished As I Lay Dying and before that about a month ago I also finished The Sound and The Fury. Though I thoroughly enjoyed both works I didn't feel like they were the pinnacle that Faulkner could achieve if that makes sense. They were both good novels, but not necessarily great novels. I was wondering if any of you thought that Faulkner has a quintessential novel other than those two. I'm ready to give Absalom! Absalom! a go soon and I'm wondering perhaps is this his best work, but I've heard that other than the works I've already mentioned and Light In August, none of Faulkner's works can really compare. I guess what I'm asking what in your eyes is Faulkner's greatest novel, and if I currently feel this way about the man is it worth reading the rest of his work?
Absalom, Absalom! is my personal favorite. I thought it was better than Light in August, but some people prefer LiA.
>>9933910
How much of Faulkner's work have you read?
>>9932935
Faulkner is overrated
Good, but overrated
Books that appear in movies, TV shows, other books etc, but are fictional and don't actually exist.
Need as big a list as I can, figure you lot are the best ones to ask.
So far I have:
>A Child's History of the Raven King
(Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell)
>The Gravedigger's handbook
(The Book Thief)
>Labyrinth
(Labyrinth (movie))
>The Necronomicon
(H.P. Lovecraft's works)
>The Philosophy of Time Travel
(Donnie Darko)
The grasshopper liesheavy (man in high castle)

Why do all half-decent writers & or philosophers have noticeable idiolects? Are there any ground-breaking writers who have something along the lines of a typical Midwestern accent?
Maybe there's no such thing as a "normal" accent, desu.
>>9932914
Wouldn't you say that normal is above the 50% margin? Most people in the US speak general American, even in the southern states - metropolitan cities like Dallas & Jacksonville, the general American accent is by far the most dominant; I've noticed that big-name writers have odd accents, or if not, odd idiosyncrasies.
>>9932905
Well, good writers are good in part by virtue of how distinct their style is. A style is pretty fucking clearly gonna be a disagreement with convention.
So I guess here's the question: how are you going to distinguish yourself as worth paying attention to, and how are you going to create your own linguistic aesthetic, if you sound like every other boring asshole out there?
