Great series.
Unfortunately its quirky style of humour spawned a lot of shitty copycats, hence the LOL SO RANDUMB crowd that loves these books today
So I can't afford books
My question is, how in the fuck can I get used to read in front of a monitor, it seems imposible
any tips?
Save up for an e-reader. Costs 10 new books.

If you don't like it, go to a library.

Why are *nglos so bad at literature?
>greatest philosopher was actually Scottish
>greatest English writer wasn't even British, was an Irish Catholic
>token faggot and greatest playwright was half-Irish and hated Br*tish society
>greatest female writer is J.K. Rowling
>Rutlandbaconsouthamptonshakespeare wasn't even a good Englishman since he was a Catholic
Explain yourself perfidious albion.

AMIRITE GUYS xD

I walk after reading dense texts and affix concepts to landmarks in my mind. It helps me retain and structure my thoughts.

I've got this castle and forest near where I live and sometimes I walk around there if I'm in that kind of mood. Good shit mang; really helps. Would recommend, especially when its one of those wintry but bright days; everything seems so crisp.
Why is getting published so hard? I'm sending a novel to agents, short stories to various journals/magazines, and even pitches for articles to various websites.
Nothing but rejection, after months of waiting.
What gives?
maybe your writing sucks
>>8703525
>Why is getting published so hard?
Your novel has to compete with every classic and every single sellout airport novel for market share. Pretty tricky to crack that market desu.
Short stories are incredibly easy to get published comparatively.

What are you trying to get published?
Why are you trying to get published?
What is preventing you from self-publishing until the solicitations begin?
>YWN NEEEVER have an excuse to wear an eyepatch
I wore one last week.I dressed up as Joyce for Halloween
>Well, I've finished writing another heartless, factitious mess that will touch no one's soul and add nothing to the world except fodder for pretentious pseuds. Time to dress like a pirate and huff farts.
Was there a shittier human being than James Joyce?

Kind of a dick irl.
I've been writing a novel for literally eight years now; at the moment I'm mostly editing and fixing the last details, then I plan on translating it into English (not my first language, evidently) and eventually try and publish it somehow. Been feeling kinda uninspired these days, though; so I thought to myself, "ya know what'll get your juices flowin'? Begin something entirely new" - NaNoWriMo and whatnot.
So the thing is, I have thousands of ideas floating in my head right now (leftovers from previous works, bits and pieces I couldn't fit anywhere, you know the drill), but for whatever reason I can't seem to organize them into... Anything, so far. What do, /lit/? How do you guys stay inspired, how do you find that voice inside that says, "yup, that's some good shit, keep going"?
>>8703426
Bump, I guess? I'm sorry for the silly pic, this is a serious post.
get rid of as many ideas as you can
>>8703766
That's what I've been trying to do, but it's kinda hard to give up on stuff that you feel is good (or okayish, at least) and yet have already been "recycled" once. It's like I have material for a few short stories but I'm trying to cram it all into a novel.
Thoughts on Eliezer Wiesel's /lit/? I must read through this book again for Comm. College, and I have doubts that the book would deliver because of the somewhat short length.

All holocaust books have an impact that's hard to match or stack up against. I didn't like it because I had to read it 3 tines in school. But objectively it's a haunting well written personal saga of loss and perseverance in an unimaginable hell.
>>8703243
Its a good story, the prose is nothing to write home about. He is telling it as it is in plain language and I think it has some literary merit.
desu, they should have kids read pic related and Hannah Arendt
I read his Night trilogy.
Night > Day > Dawn
Barely remember his books.
Why the heck do people focus so much on his antisemitism? It wasn't in any way important for his work or ideology, and yet it gets the most attention, and is even used to downplay his achievements.
/pol/ please don't respond.
Because his poetry was perfect and they needed something else to criticize him for.

It's easy to milk for controversy and academic moral point-scoring.

What are the greatest plays of the 20th/21st centuries? DeathOfASalesman and The Crucible must be up there... Opinions or Plays you think shine greatly above others?
Bump, I am trying to put together a play and would like to read some nice source material... I have read Tennessee Williams and Arthur miller and was hoping you guys would have some alternative suggestions..
Couldn't stand The Crucible. There was something kind of preachy about it. Same with Salesman but I should reread it, probably missed something important.
The Iceman Cometh
Long Days Journey Into Night
The Zoo Story
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf
Endgame
Galileo
What's the best James Incandenza film, and why is it pic related?

Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!
Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! My darling!
Light goes the weather-wind and the feathered starling.
Down along under Hill, shining in the sunlight,
Waiting on the doorstep for the cold starlight,
There my pretty lady is, River-woman's daughter,
Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than the water.
Old Tom Bombadil water-lilies bringing
Comes hopping home again. Can you hear him singing?
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! and merry-o,
Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!
Poor old Willow-man, you tuck your roots away!
Tom's in a hurry now. Evening will follow day.
Tom's going home home again water-lilies bringing.
Hey! come derry dol! Can you hear me singing?
Hop along, my little friends, up the Withywindle!
Tom's going on ahead candles for to kindle.
Down west sinks the Sun: soon you will be groping.
When the night-shadows fall, then the door will open,
Out of the window-panes light will twinkle yellow.
Fear no alder black! Heed no hoary willow!
Fear neither root nor bough! Tom goes on before you.
Hey now! merry dol! We'll be waiting for you!
Hey! Come derry dol! Hop along, my hearties!
Hobbits! Ponies all! We are fond of parties.
Now let the fun begin! Let us sing together!
What kind of power would we see if bombadil took the ring for himself?
>>8702700
He already has unlimited power, so the ring would be irrelevant to him. I recall they wanted to give him the ring, but decided against it for the simple reason that he cares about it so little, he'd probably lose it.
>yfw the father of fantasy himself used self-inserts

Exactly, it'd just be an ornament.
