So i am thinking about turning the great meme war of 2016 into an Epic poem.

It woud be set in ancient Greece, and the story woud revolve around an argument that erupts on olympos mountain between the gods, when Zeus has a discussion with Hera if they shoud give the Humans more power or if they shoud take them under their direct controll. Of course the argument is incited by Hades (George Soros) who wants the gods to losen their grip on the Humans so that he may unleash death uppon them. The gods, who have formed two paries, one for and one against more controll over the humans, they decide to settle this by chosing two human champions who will fight against each other.

I have read some of Homers works but i dont really grip the base style of him yet.

Any tipps for me?
Also wich gods shoud be in wich parties?

Hello /lit/.

New on this board, and I'm beginning to get interested in literature. I'm a Serb, and I just read some of Laza Lazarevic's short stories. These are the first literatory works that I actually saw the beauty of. They probably had an influence on my interest in this.

Anyway, my question is, can /lit/ provide a new guy with some good starting points on literature and some books to read? Just a note, I'm not into poems at all, I cannot stand reading poems for some reason.

Pic related, it's Lazarevic.

Discard your ethnic identity. Read Dickens' Great Expectations, it's comfy as fuck.
>>
>>8715995
I only said that because people would possibly be wondering who Lazarevic is.

Thanks for the recommendation though, will check it out.

Lazarević is great. Dostoevsky is probably the closest to Laza's writing (a lot of precise and deep psychological analysis) so you might like his writing.

Call me edgy, but I have some legitimate questions about this book.

In it, we know the Party is the rules all of Oceania, and has Big Brother as its head. But since Big Brother is a figure created to represent and/or embody the Party as a whole, the ruling class isn't identified.

The main antagonist says, "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever." But who is stomping whom? The main antagonist also says, "The weariness of the cell is the vigor of the organism," but how strong can the organism be if it tasks itself to make every cell weak?

Who is the ruling class of the Party if everyone suffers in it, including the elites, the Inner Party? Under whom is everyone suffering?

Is this book any good?
>>
>>8715764
Yeah it is legitimately very good
>>
I would argue that 1984 is orwells belief in inevitable class structure taken to logical extreme. He has a long part in the middle about the low the medium and the high and the roles they take being cyclical. My contention being that who the elite are are inconsequential as there will always be an elite. Hence the boot forever stamping.

Why do you dislike non-fiction so much?

Would you seriously rather fill your head with the rambling thoughts of shut-ins and schizophrenics than immerse yourself with real, useful knowledge?

The second question is stupid and I know you're just playing around, but to answer the first one it's because I find most of it very dry.

Fiction ironically tends to contain more knowledge about life than non-fiction.

Is "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" a good and honest book? I've heard that title thrown around in various websites i've visited. The only thing that kept me from reading it was because it kind of sounds like one of those mainstream exaggerated halfway-bullshit books.

unlike achilles, he overcomes his problems through the aid of gods (athena and hera) rather than through sheer will. the ancient greeks were humanists and i think the fact that they valued achilles as the greatest hero of their greatest war is one way to show this

Hey guys I want to read more but I almost never get quiet at my house. I don't want to listen to music while reading- I don't want my retention lowered, nor my experience lessened due to lack of focus on the bare text, but I may have to resort to drowning outside sound with a pair of headphones if this problem is fixed. Can you guys concentrate on reading in loud areas?

I'm a lit fetus- Which is to say I'm in the process of developing my literary tastes... Or perhaps, trying to find them. My issue is, I don't know where to truly begin.

If you do decide to abort me, please, before you dispose of me, walk past your libraries; show me where you began your literary journey, where your interest in reading was born and how someone like me can come join you.

Read whatever the fuck you want to read, then see what inspired it or was related and try reading the slightly more challenging books from that list. Keep doing that for each book, always challenging yourself but don't bother with stuff that bores the shit out of you until you level up, then give it another go. It's just like exercise but for your brain.
