A fairly common problem in books is too much filler, as authors smoked way too much weed. Filler is an affront to high IQ individuals like myself and keep us away from the world of fiction. It's an insult to our time, and an insult to our intelligence.
Not a Wheel of Time fan?
I'm interested in reading some of this guy's work. What's good? Where should I start?
>What's good?
Eh not much homie yourself
There are parts of Europe Central that are absolutely incredible but most of it was a grind. 3/5 book imo. Whores for Gloria was ok.
I hear The Rifles is his true good one. But Vollman is kind of autistic with length. Might try it one day.
Steven Erikson is Gothos, the Book of the Fallen is his Folly.
Thoughts?
Hold on, I've got a thought to share but first I need to rip this big fart *BBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPTTTTTTTTTTTTTT*
It's a 13 book series about an author's cringy dnd campaign. Apparently it's like the Ulysses of grimdark for people who think Joyce was a snob.

Could you ask her to look at this growth on my left ballsack?
What, if any, are the ultimate failings of "New Sincerity"?
Can there be a new Romanticism in the tradition of Wordsworth while simultaneously acknowledging and denying irony? Can such a voice even be considered authentic or relevant if they sidestep postmodernism altogether?DFW's work, to me, smacks of ineffable smugness or hubris.
dude, big perspectives on literature like the ones you're getting at can only emerge after many years of reading actual lit
this is like talking about Hawking radiation without doing calculus
>>9936299
who do you think has not spent years reading "actual lit": me, or the people on the /lit/ board?
I don't see why people find it so hard to be honest. It's not easy for me, either, but my (personal) impediment to truthfulness isn't irony, just shyness and a lack of courage.
Anyone on /lit/ a fan of her writing?
was she a man? her tits look suspect
Xenogenesis always seemed pretty interesting. Is it worth reading?

OP here. I made this thread because I just finished the first book in that this trilogy. Don't typically read SF (or at least I haven't in years), but I enjoyed it quite a bit, so I'll be reading the other two. I went in cold on a recommendation, so yeah, it's absolutely worth checking out especially if you are already interested in it.
This book is painfully boring to read, what's the big deal about it?
Don't worry, it "grows" on you hahahahahahHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHSDHDHHHHDHDEHDHDQWJQWDQUBDPÑWBD´1{UBD{´QDQJHQHQHQHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHA

Is Sula essentially just a black female version of Bazarov from Fathers and Sons?
Best Morrison desu. Shadrack is the man.
What if Nils Runeberg is right, and Judas is God?
There isnt a single indication in the bible to validate such a claim, so it's fanfiction heresy.
What if he isn't? Christ is still Christ, blessing unto his holy name.
Borges names the Jew
Assuming you're taking your time with a book and there's no rush to finish it, how many hours would it take you to finish approximately 1000 pages
There is no way to answer this question in a satisfying way, given that fonts, typesetting, and page size are not standardized, neverminding the fact that language used is also not standardized.
It would take me 6 hours to read 1000 pages of Harry Potter in the later books' original hardcover versions.
>>9936134
most 1000 pages fiction books take me about 3 weeks to read
>>9936134
1000 pages of Hegel would take more time than 1000 pages of Tolkien. In other words, your question is dumb.
How can you not see any iteration of God in the world when there is so much order to existence? Math would not exist in a world without God.

>athiests
lern 2 fuckin spell you maroon
is that u in the pic lmao
If you think math is orderly, then you don't understand math.
What are some good passages/books about thinking?
>Thus, for instance, the truly philosophical combination of a bold, exuberant spirituality which runs at presto pace, and a dialectic rigour and necessity which makes no false step, is unknown to most thinkers and scholars from their own experience, and therefore, should any one speak of it in their presence, it is incredible to them. They conceive of every necessity as troublesome, as a painful compulsory obedience and state of constraint; thinking itself is regarded by them as something slow and hesitating, almost as a trouble, and often enough as ‘worthy of the SWEAT of the noble’—but not at all as something easy and divine, closely related to dancing and exuberance!

The thin line at the edge of the universe in Portrait was one of my favorite.

Read Kant, everything else is wrong
