Isn't poetry merely a fetishization of language?
A writer uses language to express the beauty of thought
A poet uses language to express the beauty of language
Why do pseuds love the word "fetishize" so much?

Kind of
Not really
No
So. I have a family background that would make Freud's eyes pop out of his head.
(No, I won't be giving details. But even the bare outline of public events would stir up interest.)
How do I prevent Freudians from dragging my literary work back to my childhood?
I write in the first person, so they will be eager to snout around my early years.
I'll be using a pen name, for a start, but what other measures can I take?
>>8743832
You're being defensive. Nothing gets more attraction from Freudians than being defensive.
>>8743832
If you care what other people do with your work once it is done, don't publish it.
So best advice is grow thicker skin, and focus on what you are doing, not what you have done.
Interesting like west Virginia or like long island?
Does anyone know a book that's also about aestheticism?
Portrait of the artist as a young man
>>8744000
Thank you.
>>8743827
A rebours by Huysmans is pretty damn aesthetic.
Legend has it that this was actually the book that inspired Wilde and the one Lord Henry gave to Dorian.
Will meditation/mindfuflness practise ruin my talent for escapism?
What is it with this board and asking completely ridiculous and worthless questions?
>hey /lit/ so if i do this will this happen
>i dont get this book /lit/ can you hold my hand and explain it to me
>/lit/ i am fully autistic, dyslexic, and probably depressed and want to kill myself, can you find me a book that will magically solve all my problems?
Fuckin hell m8
>>8743808
>talent for escapism
you stupid or what?
>>8743808
>talent for escapism
What?
What are some good non-depressive books?
Most of the stuff I read makes me want to hang myself
I want to read about beauty
Start with the Greeks.

Unironically this. There was a time in my life where Plato was the only reason I was still living.
Walden
consider the fact that this man left behind straight-up goddamn full-length recordings of readings and explainings, having sat there, sat or stood there so really and existentially and actually, and having spoken and dictated and exposited endlessly in endless expoundment on the topic, and yet he still has gone and killed his goddamn self.
OOPS SORRY,
consider the fact that [IN ADDITION TO HIS WRITING]
What's your point? That public speaking ability should somehow negate suicidal depression?m
it's like, dude, why did that guy even really have to go and do that
Looking for books on self improvement but cannot find much besides Self Help like pic related. Are they good? If not, should I read some philosophy on self improvement? What philosophers and works cover that?
>>8743683
90% of the people that are attracted to self help can't help themselves.
Start with the greeks.
>>8743683
>Are they good?
Unfortunately, I fell for the self-help meme. Several times actually. The problem with them is usually that the self-help is written in perspective of the author. This author has his own distinct ideology of how one should be improving him or herself.
Surely, humans are not all the same. So I would say that self-help isn't useful since most authors do not just bring ideas to the table, which you are free to choose from, but push their own ideas, ideology really, on you as they feel confident that their idea works (yeah for them).
It does not only ignore that people are different, but that people are from nature different. How we behave, our personality and so on, is not only brought a by culture and personal experiences, it is also partly genetically determined.
You also have to consider, from research in psychology, that the succes of the author is most likely due to luck and other factors then what he describes to. Humans will rationalize their success afterwards and not in any accurate way.
Another reason to avoid self-help books is that in truth they are a kind of confirmation bias. I would suggest to just search for concepts and ideas to help you to self-improve as well as fail and recover.

I looked up Mike Cernovich to determine if he was a worthy source of helpful information. In California, a state believed to have alimony laws that almost always favor women, he was forced to receive $1 million in alimony from his first wife. This man wrote the forward to a book called Cuckservatives.
Seems like a legit source to activate the Gorilla Mindset and achieve Alpha Status.
Hi /lit/, what's your take on haiku? Personally I like writing them pretty much as a hobby. If I had to guess though then I would guess that /lit/ might think of the genre as pleb tier due to the fact that they are so <deceptively?> easy to write and read. What say you?
>>8743675
Deeply true to self
Haiku garners from myself
Not a lot of love
I'm also shit at poetry

thank you !! did you read it ?
I often have troubles appreciating poetry. I don't think that I have aphantasia, so I must be reading it wrong. What goes through your mind as you read poetry, /lit/?
Here's a couple relevant informations:
-When people mention their grandparents fucking or filled intestines, no image comes to mind, except if I make an effort. Others seem to be immediately grossed out.
-I can generally appreciate what I write myself, but not fully and not always.
-I can appreciate poetry set in music, although sometimes just for its sound.
Any similar experiences?
Pic unrelated.
plz help

I have to say that I hadn't heard of this phenomenon. It must really suck. However, as with every "disorder" there are things you can do that don't require the function you lack. Maybe poetry is simply not for you and you'd be better off reading more "logical" works.
What do you do, Anon? I have to say that I have kind of the opposite "disorder", my imagination is too vivid. Sometimes when a person cracks a joke I laugh and I explain the chain of images that made me laugh. More often than not I'm met with the "wow, that's so graphic", and, since I was laughing, the graphicness of it turns to be irrelevant, too detailed or just gross.
Curiously enough, I do enjoy poetry a lot.
Try memorizing poems.
What book changed you as a person the most ?
Ego and his Own. I was so, so spooked.
The Phenomenology of Spirit.
Finnegan's Wake.
Holy moly!

As someone who was your typical millenial liberal this book really opened my eyes to how flawed the lefts thinking is.

I spent a whole weekend a few weeks ago watching Ayn Rand interviews, and it was a good weekend.
when younger i used to feel embarrassed i love this book. not anymore. yes its true sometimes big business is evil but on the other hand its helped humanity so so much
I ended up beyond help but I'd like to share some books that helped me pull myself as "together" as possible.
Feel free to throw in your suggestions as well, better if you could describe the significance of the book and who it helped you too, as opposed to just posting an image.
I'll start:
First off, let's not forget that pic related is basically his diary desu. In so far as you're like me and prefer encouragement about life that refers to empirical data and proven techniques, you're not going to find much of substance here (some of the more metaphysical suggestions here will raise a lot of eyebrows too, especially if you haven't read any other Stoics). Really though, sometimes you just want raw motivation, and Marcus's self-motivation can give you exactly that. Allow me to share the passage from the Meditations I like the most:
>The sun appears to pour itself down, and indeed its light pours in all direction, but the stream does not run out. This pouring is linear extension: that is why its beams are called rays, because they radiate in extended lines. You can see what a ray is if you observe the sun's light entering a dark room through a narrow opening. It extends in a straight line and impacts, so to speak, on any solid body in its path which blocks passage through the air on the other side: it settles there and does not slip off or fall.

>girl strikes up a conversation and asks if I've ever read any Stephen King

>the guy who wrote "The Tommyknockers"
What authors do you hate hearing be considered "higher literature" by plebs?
>>8743459
>reading 1984
There's your answer ;)
>>8743461
What the fuck is wrong with Orwell, you faggot?
I've officially outgrown this board.
Hey /lit/, do you write scripts? (for films, comics, etc)
Do you use special software or application for it? Any resource you want to share? Any commentary?
>>8743436
Yes I do. And no I just format it myself on microsoft word
>>8743436
Good question. Formating a page with tab very sentence is a pain.
