meh
>>8805990
Now, explain to the folks what "meh" means.
>>8806004
it means he's a much better performer than author, and that he should scrap his plans to become a full time novelist
every single one of the jokes that were in the book and his youtube show were funnier on the show
he's alright but kind of a grown-up hipster douche, with the pretend christianity and all that shite
>where can I find Mao I?
gr8 meme there, son
so far from what ive read:
underworld > white noise ~ end zone > libra
>>8805960
I felt the same about Libra, although most everyone here seems to get a stiffy whenever it's mentioned. Just seemed like an above-average political-intrigue thriller, with Dilollop's standardly excellent prose and one or two stand-out moments (namely, when Lee is laying on his handler's couch and the handler dry-humps him). Underworld is up next.
anyone fuck with thomas ligotti?
I'm a fan
I'm a big fan of his stories, he nails the atmosphere perfectly
Acid Bath is one of my favorite bands too, and their lyrics seem to have been heavily influenced by Ligotti
>>8805904
His books are already "classics" now?
Was Philip K. Dick a genius or a hack?
>dichotomies
Saged, reported to the episteme police
>>8805678
hack genius
>>8805678
He wasn't special. Many scifi writers do all the same drugs and have all the same influences and experiences but most just avoid making their book universe run around the drugs. He managed to do it and mostly not make it too cheap and shallow.
Has anyone read this? What are your thoughts on the Red Book?
>>8805421
ive meant to, i wrote my own, basically. well, everything i write is basically this, recordings of the interactions between my conscious and subconscious and the ideas inbetween that i can grasp
>>8805421
Very, very interesting. Above all, unique. I would recommend reading it after his autobiography though, it helps to understand the events in his life that couldve influenced the red book. It can change your perspective on things, would recommend. One of my few 10/10s.
Good luck explaining it to normies if you read it public, though
I have the Reader's Edition and I thought the introduction was way better than the actual body of the book
So I'm writing a term paper for a German idealism/Marx class I took and I decided to write about the debate between labor theory and subjective theory of value. What are some good sources and arguments that you guys have in support of labor theory of value or in critique of it?
>>8805118
Value can't be truly subjective as it's determined by the ideology of the capitalist mode of production. Bukharin has a pretty good critique of SBT and marginal utility in general. Advertising creates and shapes desires. think about luxury products, their value is bound up in ideology.

Would you say someone who watched the advert for a product values a product more because he watched the advert?
At least when he's making consumption decisions
I'm gay
Purchasing books is a categorical imperative. Ebooks, although convenient, provide the avenue for a lapse in ethics.
>>8804656
Shut up, nigger.
What is McCarthy trying to convey with this book?
Without God violence is only meaningless?
Violence is inherit in Man?
Man is an abomination?
Border policies?
People from the 1800s like to drink?
What?
people like to dance naked, that's all. where you getting that other shit, weirdo?
>>8804273
That the american Midwest looked like an alien world in the middle 1800s.
>>8804273
in a way, i feel mccarthy is challenging us to a higher morality. for the kid, violence is innate to the world, comprising his being, but yet he still shows a spark, a bit of light through some of his efforts. he can't fulfill the archetypal evil that is the nature of the judge and is consumed, but even at some point the judge recognizes that soon there will be a falseness in things, but in a sense he's right, the dance is eternal, the cycle of violence innate, in whatever forms it changes too.
When did you realise that Lovecraft was shit?
>shit
>almost a daily thread about him
Maybe his style to try to describe the "unspeakable" wasn't the best, but stil, try to find someone (beside E.A.P and Stephen King) who can create a solid and dense horror atmosphere in ANY short story.
Yeah, that's what i thougt, nu-male

what the fuck now I hate Lovecraft.
Have you ever emailed a writer you admire and did they write back?
I emailed Jonathan Safran Foer and he replied a month later (after I emailed him again to ask if he received the previous email) accusing me of writing an email that was inconsiderately long and being a "worryingly delusional" person. He asked me not to email him and and it really wasn't the reaction I was hoping for.
>>8802747
this morning I emailed a girl who had said she was infatuated with me
>>8802747
I can't delude myself into believing they'd give a shit about what I had to say
Also, I only read dead white males
>>8802747
I emailed Junot Diaz once and he responded in broken English.
Redpill me on the kindle /lit/, is it worth it?

Pascal's Wager.
>>8801628
Pascal's Wager is a shit proposition and no Christian should take it seriously. You should be driven to Christianity by love of the Lord.
How far along are you in the trilogy, /lit/?Prove it, ya fraud.

why is this a meme trilogy at all? why are these always lumped together?
Bros who are 25 or older, get in here. Let's talk about books, give recommendations, etc. Give your country, age, and what book you're reading. I'm convinced part of why /lit/ is so bad is because how most of /lit/ is immature college kids.

Me: US, 28, "Noctures" by Ishiguro
I'm 27 but I have the emotional maturity of a 15 year old
US, 35, Hells Angels by HST
If you're into HST, it's pretty good. The book makes me want to get a motorcycle and makes me deathly afraid of riding a motorcycle at the same time.

Mine's about to not look as nice, though. Bought a house that doesn't have any long, non-windowed walls like my apartment now does.
