Do we deserve better?
Are there books like David Lynch's Inland Empire that will disturb and astonish me like this film did?
I've run into a problem time and time again and I can't seem to escape.
Whenever I ponder questions such as "what is self?" and "what is god?" i fall into a rut. To me these words define are defined by their author, therefore any inquiry into them is insignificant. Language is just function not substance. Self is what I want it to be and god is just a three letter word.
Am I retarded? Please help me lit, I don't even know how to think anymore.

hi
I'm reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and would like to supplement with some analysis, could someone give me a link to some good shit?
thx
Is reading Phenomenology of the Spirit together with Solomon's In the Spirit of Hegel worth spending my next 3 months reading and understanding? Can your time be better spent when adequately prepared for heavy duty philosophy and you haven't read this one?
Do you any of you fellows take notes when reading for mnemonic or comprehension purposes? If so, how do you organise your notes? Do you have any rituals or special methods of procedure?
does anyone have a pdf/epub of the joel cohn botchan translation? can only find the dire morri version. thanks
Not enough drama here. What do you guys think of different playwrights, primarily modern (20th century on, mostly)? Any nationality okay but I'm more familiar with American ones.
I feel like Miller is very symbolic and has a powerful sense of tragedy. His dialogue is very well-done in my opinion, although I know some people think he's overrated.
I tried to get into O'Neill, I read Long Day's Journey Into Night and was kind of disappointed. Characters weren't nearly as realistic (they all had very specific traits and conflicts), the dialogue seemed much more artificial and awkward (pic related), altogether sort of a let down. Is that a representational work?
Also feel free to discuss other writers in general, I'm looking for good drama, plus any thoughts in general. Do you guys feel that drama can't deliver in the same way as other forms? It doesn't seem as common a topic on this board.
does /lit/ have a stance on magazines?
They're easily digestible, cheap and better written than most books.
WHat are some of your favorites books on Hedonism, Pleasure, Beauty, Art?

Thoughts on this?
Any books with a premise along similar lines?
Just purchased Magarsky's translation of brothers Karamazov. Is it a good translation?
I picked up Republic on amazon pretty recently and was thinking of getting Meditations when I'm done reading it. I was looking for recommendations on other classic literature focused around politics and philosophy, drop some names for ones I should get around to reading.
