If i plant a seed in a specific place in my garden and it grows into a tree, could it have been any other tree except this one was just lucky to be in my garden?

The Tunnel by Gass because it's probably the best thing I've read and it still shocks me.
Do you read plays? Does it even make sense? What plays should I read?

It's apparent that the story is about an utopia, friend.

I was of the same opinion. However, many middle class people have told me over a craft beer and a cigarette that they would never want to live such a safe and easy life and that life only becomes valuable with true feeling, with risk and danger, not merely empty consumerism.
They show me their Instagram pictures of their backpacking trips on their iPhones and tell me that they couldn't imagine living without this type of adventure. They couldn't live safe and easy lives in a world of mass production and consumerism where everyone thinks the same. They're unique individuals.

I'm just gonna go on a spurt so here I go:
>Are romance novels any good?
>Can romance novels have literary merit?
>Can you recommend some good romance novels?
>Are romance novels only appealing to woman?
>Are all romance novels too corny?
>What is considered a good romance novel?
>Is there romance novels not catered only toward women?
I don't read any romance because to me it's all corny, but I've been trying to expand my reading taste, and I thought I'd give some romance a try.
I'm not sure these count as pure romances but the books that come to mind as a starting point are Ethan Frome and Return of the Native
>>8862818
Well, just like with horror and science fiction, romance novels from the 1800s are usually well regarded. But whereas I'm a fan of popular "pleb" horror and science fiction/fantasy I'm unfamiliar with popular "pleb" romance novels so I can't really give recommendations in that area.
I would personally recommend Fortress Besieged by Qian Zhongshu.
>Are romance novels only appealing to woman?
Well, in Pride and Prejudice the appeal for females is that Mr. Darcy is hot, and the appeal for males is that Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect waifu and you want to marry her.
>Is there romance novels not catered only toward women?
Fortress Besieged, although the book isn't "just" romance. Also it's extremely depressing, which most classic romance novels outside of Austen's books are.

How did you get over the fact that you'll never be a published writer? Looking for advice on how to come to terms with my own situation.
>>8862805
Publish stuff online if you're so starved for attention
>>8862895
I'm more desperate for rent money
>>8862805
Jesus christ, stop being pathetic.
All you have to do is keep on trying and KNOW your fucking market. You aren't a special snowflake, if you really need art then hide it in your entertainment, but you have to know how to entertain first before doing anything else.
Plus getting published as a nobody requires lots of obsession and annoyance on your part. You need to heckle and constantly send shit in.
Actually go fuck yourself because there isn't a single good writer who has ever complained about being a published writer. Your expectations for yourself and your self-defeatism has done so much damage to your product that it's probably a great irony.
>Doesn't have complete mastery of his language

What did Holden mean by this?
>>8862656
he meant he's quite illiterate but he reads a lot.
not very good at reading, but he does it anyway.
If you suck at something, but enjoy it nontheless you should keep doing it.
Do you pay more for a nicer cover? And if so what's your limit?
What a cute little bong
Is that Rosamond Pike? She's so fucking hot. Why did I ever watch Gone Girl? Btw great thread. No I wouldn't pay more for a nice cover, that's dumb. great thread.
>>8862584
Probably not, unless it's something I really love.
>read this expecting some kind of dramatic story about people discovering an alternate history and creating dramatic changes or revolution
>It's just a spy thriller where the setting has no real consequence
Why the hype?
>The setting has no real consequence
>He missed the part where Germany wanted to destroy Japan.
>>8862486
It could have been Germany wanting to destroy a Japanese bakery and it wouldn't have been any different. In fact they could have excluded that entirely and it would have made no difference.
What's your point?
>>8862426
That's how I felt after watching Captain America Civil War
Which do you prefer?
Hardcover or Paperback?
>>8862397
Hardbacks look nice and last longer
Paperbacks are cheaper and easier to carry and hold
Some people also prefer ebooks and will let you know about it
These are the possible responses to this great thread
>>8862402
There are many more responses,
For example, some people like audio books. But I find it's far better to pay a well educated call girl to read to you. Many more options.
I mostly buy used hardbacks.
H-he's wrong, right? I'm barely smart enough to digest the book, so I can't come up with a good rebuttal against it. Can someone smarter than me tell me why existing isn't that bad?
>>8862366
Read East of Eden to pick yourself back up.
Existence is only bad if you make it bad. If pessimists spent all the effort they spend whining on improving their lives, they'd see how beautiful the world is.
>>8862366
It's a bit feels over reels even though it's compelling. Pic related is more of a rational approach to the problem.
