A substantial amount of what I've been reading in the past year or so has been fiction.

I have 2 weeks off of work as of today, and I would like some recommendations for non-fiction books, I've compiled a list of about five books so far, but my goal is fifteen by the end of the break.

What are you favorite non-fiction books /lit/?

Considering all philosophical questions have now been answered with graceful, powerful logic is it too far a stretch to say he has started a new era, a second enlightenment?

Would you really? Would you REAAALLY? Put yourself in the situation and think about it. Would you really fuck John Goodman? Imagine him bending over with his fat, obese ass sticking into your face. And you gotta fuck that man-hole. And you're not done, then. Maybe he wants to fuck you too. Or at least get his dick sucked. Are you really willing to do all that and still claim that you're heterosexual?
Would you really do that? Or would you rather just fuck Amy and get it over with? At least she has a pussy and will suck your dick. And maybe you'll fuck her titties, too.

Im actually writing my own novel, im planning it to be huge, with a universe and with its own mithos. I can write dozens of stories out of it, but im inexperienced with fantasy books. The main novel occurs in a present time, but the society is kind of different; it interacts with different species, inteligent species, like gnomes, lizards, wizards and normal people. But then a war begins nobody knows where. I want to depict giant beings, like interstellar beings, divine and demons from other universes, but i dont really know how. The characters are a team, loosely inspired in japanese shit, and fantasy stories ive read though the years.
What are your thoughs, /lit/? What should i do to begin with?

In Crito Socrates makes the argument that because he had enjoyed the citizenship of Athens for 70 years and all the benefits that came with it, he could not now, disobey its laws, since to disobey one law is to disobey the entire body of laws and to disobey the entire body of laws is to destroy the city.

This argument rests on the idea that injustice cannot be met with injustice (and that to now disobey the law of the city he had gained benefit from would be injustice.) But if the law itself is unjust and one still obtains benefit, for example if one is a slaveowner, or if one is the son of a fascist dictator, or if one is the relative of a corrupt politician, is it then sill injustice to disobey the law if one believes that the law is unjust?

I read Plato as an elaborate joke.
Socrates' conclusions, while not absurd to our ears, was patently absurd to Plato.

The trick with Socrates is to try and find the absurdity in the structure of the rhetoric of logic and the representation of his reality by assuming his conclusions to be the result of stupidity.

Then you can see the spirality of the recursion in the narrative process, and the rhetoric in the dialectic structure of arguments in general.

The only thing that matters is if the story is useful to be believed, and there is nothing useful to be believed in suicide.
>>
>>8871527
Socrates doesn't commit suicide; he is ordered to kill himself. Extremely different.

>>8871507
Crito is a text on the importance of Rule of Law, not turning the other cheek.

You can't selectively obey the laws. Either you're a destructive freeloader or a contributing member of the polity. The polity is a collective good, and its not up to individual citizens to act on their conscience to make it better. Changing things requires a manifestation of mutual assent, which (given social contract theory) can be decided upon the people (in a Democracy) or mandated (in a hierarchical system).
>>
>>8871507
>and one still obtains benefit, for example if one is a slaveowner, or if one is the son of a fascist dictator, or if one is the relative of a corrupt politician,

Maybe I'm not understanding your point, I am a bit buzzed, but how would this change Socrates' arguments or position?

I don't know what it is she's arguing.
No one is forcing her to read contemporary literary fiction. The fiction itself is not at all popular or widely talked about.

Her obsession with them says more than anything else which just seems childish and insecure. If you truly don't care about the opinions of these circles (as I do not) then just take your liberty to ignore them (as I do)

I think she's critiquing average writers being held up as good by pretentious critics. On that point, we're in an influenza.

Not sure if it necessarily applies here but has anyone reviewed the bible (King james version) like an actual book? Not like some bible study crap but an honest book review like one would review any other book.

Except it's not like any other book. Christian or not you cannot deny the bible as the most influential work in the western world.
If you want to criticize its prose or something go ahead but you're missing the point if you are.

Looking for recommendations for far-leftist writings. So far I read all 3 volumes of das Kapital, the communist manifesto and the conquest of bread. What's next? Bordiga? Adorno? If so which specific works?

TBK is one of the most impressive novels ever written. it almost transcends the medium.

The obvious entry point for Dostoevsky is Notes from Underground though

It was my tenth birthday. My family and I were going to Chuck E Cheese for my birthday. As we pulled into the driveway I unbuckled my seatbelt and jumped out the moving, landing my fat, jiggling, shit stained ass directly on a homeless man’s mouth. He tried to push me off but the weight of my checks was too much for him to lift. He fell lying down with the putrid smell of my unwiped ass suffocating him until he lay dead in an endless eternity of my stinky ass. I thought nothing of this. As I stood up and walked away from the dead shit covered homeless man, my father pulled up in the car.I jumped in the car, leaving a trail of fallen shit crusts from my ass, and my father drove the rest of the way to Chuck E Cheese. Leaving exit twenty-four, my father started to accelerate at full speed, driving down a street. Swerving, he hit a baby stroller with his car at ninety miles an hour. We pulled up in the driveway, leaving the bloody remains of an infant behind us. We got out the car and made our way into Chuck E Cheese. Walking through the door, I looked to my left and saw a table with a rotting corpse of a deer laying on it. Looking back at my father, he was buying our tickets from an old lady with saggy tits. My father then gave me my coins, and I walked over to a deer hunting game, passing some people shoving shards of glass up their asses. I pressed start and started shooting away.I started to notice something grab my two shit covered ass cheeks. I looked behind me to see a naked, black, midget grabbing my tight ass with his chubby little fingers. I got upset and kicked him into a 80 year lady. The midget ran away giggling. I left the game and went over to the birthday table where my dad was waiting. I then heard that Chuck E Cheese would show up soon. I shoved cake into my mouth and looked around to see if I could spot Chuck E Cheese, but all I could see were two cats giving birth directly on someone pizza. I felt sad that Chuck E Cheese wasn’t here yet, but then I started to smell something. A scent that could never be mistaken, the scent smelled of many things, children piss, and horse placenta. I knew what this smell meant, Chucky E Cheese is here. I turned around to see this life-giving creation staring directly at me with his dark green eyes. I was filled with joy, that this mouse would brighten up my day with it’s fun behavior. I got up and hugged it, feeling the piss leave his costume and into my ears. I felt like this day couldn’t get any better, but when I looked up, it just looked at me. I tried to back away, but it moved with me. I kept stepping back, but I stopped to feel the table directly behind me. I was trapped, but out of the blue, the naked, black midget appeared and started to ejaculate all over Chuck E Cheese’s leg. The midget then climbed up his body, rubbing his lice-infested pubes all the way up. I had a chance to escape, I hopped over the table and made my way to the exit door. I never went there ever again.
