Looking for books that are gritty, dark, and existential. I am already a really big fan of kafka.

Sartre's Nausea for the existential aspect, my man.
Celine's Journey into the night for the dark and yet very human aspect.
Stop pretending that you've read my work.
Stop strawmanning what I said and believed.
Stop selectively adopting and interpreting what I said and believed.

Don't worry, I think I have your best interests in mind.

He had sunk forwards and was lying on the ground as if asleep.
When they had turned him over, you could see that he could not have suffered long - his face wore an expression that was so composes that it looked as if he were almost happy that it had turned out that way.
Is it worth a read? Thinkin about buying it
Or should I buy this

What is the best translation of the opening line of the Aeneid?

>seneca didn't live by what he taught at all
>he was rich and was scared to lose it
>he risked his life for sex
>he tried to over throw an emperor
>he helped kill nero's mother.
The book introduced me to Stoicism and philosophy in general but I can't take his advice anymore. What a hypocrite.

wtf
Seneca's teachings helped me in life and that's all that counts. Why should his lifestyle have any impact on my reaction to his text?
>tfw to intelligent to be a man of action
Thanks for reminding me that I have to read this.

Same here
Just had sex with my girlfriend in the back of an alley. Earlier we had sex right outside the mall but she was grinding on me so it wasn't as pleasurable. Still nice.
Anyways this book made me change my views to see how annoying I sound in my unneeded bitterness. My favorite part was his 'revenge' on the soldier I think it was him just bumping against him in a crowd without apologizing or some small nonsense like that. Good stuff.
What's some good WWII fiction?
Read pic related and it was actually pretty comfy.
(Preferably from a French, Russian or German perspective)
I too would like some
Decided to pick up this book for kicks.
>A fictional movie within an essay within a fictional story.
>Story-ception.
>Navidson Record was interesting, JT's story was not.
>Last 1/4 of book, JT's story became literally pages of rambling on about nonsense, ended up skipping a few pages entirely of random rambling.
As an aspiring writer myself, I found this book very creative, and it was a fresh read on that front, but I didn't enjoy reading it as much as I thought.
What are your thoughts on this "found footage" book?
The quality of posts is extremely important to this community.
As a "real" aspiring author I don't read books in the 21st century.

I found it entertaining, certainly gave me the feels at some points, but in other parts of the book it's really obtuse [spoiler/] like the coded letter from JT's mum or the backwards text in the windows which only repeats what has been said
And whilst I get it, [spoiler/] Zampano's authorship is supposed to be overly pretentious and intended to suck the life out of everything, I would have liked it if MZD would have toned down in certain sections on that aspect of the text for the sake of the emotional impact, Tom's death comes to mind...
Other than that, I found it imaginative and vividly realised, made me want to check out his other stuff
there's also this album from his sister written to accompany the text, it's not very good

I'm planning on writing a novel involving the adventures of a 32 year old manchild with complete reliance on his mother living home alone after his mom dies, unnoticed by the rest of the world

What stopping /lit/ from purchasing an ouija board and contacting their favorite dead writer?
DFW duct-taped his hands behinds his back so he can't really communicate that way

Could this be a good guide to start with the greeks if I'm not willing to follow the /lit/ chart?

>More Plato
Can you read? The pic recs Plato's Dialogues, ie all of his work
ending lines of your books?
I'll start:
>An adytum of silence, they flocked to the cathedral with closed mouths and screaming eyes.
It seemed an age for it to do so, but she was finally there.
The Rhino, however, wasn’t.
That figured.
The end.

I was going to start reading pic related, is this the best place to start with McElroy, or are there better pieces to start with like Cannonball?
