Imagine how comfy it must be when you're a hack and have your old fantasy series get picked up by a major television company and realize that you won't have to write or do shit ever again. Just get more and more fat and waste money until you die of heart failure. The dream.

Avid book readers, how do you feel about reading multiple books at once? Not in the sense of reading them at the same time but rather having picked up and invested yourself in multiple books.

I've only attempted two at most, in order to stay faithful to my reading, as to not have my interest drift away from me.

I find it easy to have a novel and a fiction book on the go at the same time. If you're a decent reader it's not hard to read multiple books concurrently it just doesn't suit some people though

...

Mmm...? Ahhh..
Why.. hello. I see the cicada has found its way out of it's earthly tomb-Ah!-I mean womb! Oh, the look of uncertainty spread across your face. It pleases me.

While you are caught in this silent abracadabra, why not play a game? A game of faces and tongues, so to say. It's quiet simple really, all there is to do to play--is to be yourself. But alas, it is not known who you nor I are to one another. Even as these words teeter a fine line between yours and mine minds...

So, about the purpose of the game. I suppose you are wondering, no? Well,
Don a face in this ambiguous place. None are right or wrong. Just as long as you can be whom you claim to be. Just like in a dream. Tell me who you are and what ails you, and I'll come to find out more about you. Or, if not, some other apparition may take interest. It's difficult to tell who is whom here, and you would be quite surprised who you find walking the lines inbetween your waking life. Perhaps even pleasantly so...

I'm sure someone has recommended "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho before, but I just need to say holy shit. Maybe it was in my "personal legend" to read it at this point in my life, but wow, I have never read anything that resonates so deep. Every other paragraph I am tempted to write down and save as a quote, and then I continue reading and realize the next paragraph is just as good. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. I have a feeling that I will be reading this one every few years and will take a new meaning from it each time.

I'm pretty sure /lit/ is split on Jung. Half of people seem to value him for his contribution to literary theory and whatnot, and the other half just think he's pseudoscience bullshit. At least that's what i've seen.

There's definitely been a big rise in discussion about him recently, probably because of Jordan Peterson.

I kind of fall into the camp where I enjoy reading him so that I can study Archetypes and see what other knowledge I can squeeze out of his writing.

So nobody thinks his idea of the archetypes has any merit?

There's a clear drop in talent since the 60s, but don't exaggerate.

Pasolini, Jünger, Debord, Gómez Dávila, Calvino, Perec, Borges... wrote good things.

Post your gifts and other Xmas related such and such in this thread. I got a first edition Omensetters Luck. Thanks pa.

I got an e-reader for christmas - always been staunchly against them but here we are and it's kind of neat.

Anyone know a good place to get free epubs for it? I exclusively read historical non-fiction.

Should i get a kindle paperwhite?

Is there no cheaper alternative than spending £90?

Keep it in mind that I'd be pirating everything. And I hate going to the library. Absolutely hate it.

I have one, would recommend.
There's probably some Chinese rip offs that are good but like always its a gamble with them
>>
>>8883415
If you can get on either bibliotik or myanonamouse then you will have every book you could ever want at your fingertips.
Myanon has pretty much no ratio because they straight up give you upload/fl tokens like every week so you never have to contribute. Bib you need an overdrive library account, but if you do have one (and most libraries support it), you can hit the 100 upload requirement in a few days and then download to your heart's content.

Should I read Euclid (or any other philosophical work for that matter) before attempting to read Spinoza's the Ethics?

P.S. Merry Christmas
>>
>>8883388

I haven't read Euclid, but from what I've been told, Spinoza merely borrows his form and lays out his argument the way you'd lay out a geometrical proof, starting with definitions and axioms, then a host of propositions which follow from these.

I'd recommend you familiarize yourself with Descartes before reading Spinoza. Spinoza's thought is directly related to Descartes'. What Spinoza does is that he rejects a glaring inconsistency in the Cartesian conception of substance, namely a definition of substance as being wholly independent, and a distinction between substance proper and created substance, where the former is independent (God) and the latter are dependent only on God (res cogitans and res extensa).

Spinoza accepts the definition of substance as being independent and takes this definition to its logical conclusion, eschewing the pseudosubstances that Descartes operates with.

As for a book, The Principles of Philosophy has most of the juicy parts of Cartesian philosophy.
