What does /lit/ think of this book?

There is no uniform opinion
>>8895717
solid 6/13
>>8895717
Its cover is a shitty low budget 80s edgy print image so I'm guessing this is like the Turner Diaries.
If so, hilariously counter-productive
I only read non-fiction
>I only read YA
>my favorite book is The Dark Knight trilogy by C. Nolan.
>>8895682
I only read books that I find to have an interesting premise.
Why was he such a materialistic degenerate? Does he wanted to emulate Fitzgerald?
A man who loves guns can't be a degenerate.
>>8895617
You do not attempt to troll /lit/ by putting the bad mouth on one of its gods. Its obvious to the neon sign level, and just really poor form.
>>8895617
>does he wanted
Try harder, pleb
>order two books, The Republic and Stoner through Thriftbooks
>The Republic has highlighter and pen all through the book, this is considered """acceptable""" condition
>Instead of being sent Stoner I got The Perks of Being a Wallflower
>mfw
What online book store is worth ordering from now, I'm never going through them again
I bought 3 books through book depository lately, got here fast enough and the selection is massive.
>>8895595
Why not just use Amazon? I ordered Stoner off there, came in 2 days, perfect condition.
>>8895595
omg u must be so angry!!
thanks for sharing you're frustration
what am i in for /lit/? overrated trash?
who the fuck reads the bartram crime and punishment
>>8895566

It's pretty comfy.
Maybe reddit would have an alternate suggestion.
>>8895537
yes
Why are chinese ghost stories so much better than european ones?
European:
>Sad backstory
>convoluted explanation
>ghost wants to kill you
>ghost is ugly
>wants to forcefully steal your energy
Chinese:
>No backstory or slightly sad backstory
>no explanation
>The ghost is not there to scare you
>Ghost is usually a pretty girl
>Wants to get your life energy, but gives sex in exchange
>>8895504
we hate sex here.
Take the redpill
Theophile Gautier is master of supernatural/ghost stories and literally none of the cliches you mention apply to him.

Finished A Memory of Light 40 minutes ago. I can't believe it's over. Just... No. So much happened. And now it's done.

I may or may not have fapped to Nynaeve. If I made a WoT movie she would be played by Anna Kendrick.
What's /lit/ thoughts on this book?
I think that you're a moron for asking such a shitty pretentious board for any kind of advice, sheep.
spooky
Ahh GCSE English literature
I had a big change in my mindset lately.
I believe that each person is interchangeable. In other words, if you grew up in the body and circumstances of a person who ended up being a serial killer, you wouldn't do anything different to what they did.
I also believe that most evil acts come from simple ignorance of the right path, and that the only true evil is ignoring what is right in favor of being self-serving.
Can you guys help me find some books that expand on ideas like these? As you can tell, I'm not well-read and can barely articulate myself.
>>8895288
wow really makes you think
>I believe that each person is interchangeable. In other words, if you grew up in the body and circumstances of a person who ended up being a serial killer, you wouldn't do anything different to what they did.
So, you believe that people are blank slates who are formed and guided through their lives deterministically by their surroundings?
I don't know about books that deal with this (Zola and naturalism in literature are similar, but they believe that a person is guided deterministically by their genes instead of the surrounding).
This whole idea is, afaik, disregarded by psychology. I was taught, at least, that a person is formed both by its genes and the upbringing.

B.F. Skinner is all about this.

So It was "Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote" just a Borges excuse to shit on Cervantes?
Yes.
No.
I don't know.
What the fuck is that story about?
>>8895246
It was a subtle criticism of copyright laws.
>>8895715
I think you have the right idea, but I'd say it goes much further than that.
>tfw keep opening my stories with descriptions of the weather
How plebeian am I?
>>8895186
Another quality frog thread
That's better than what I do, which is usually open in media res with dialogue
Why don't you just write a book about weather?
;^)
Hello /lit, Happy Holidays. Just got a few collectors editions of classic literature from Barnes & Noble for Christmas. Any thoughts on the books and where I should start?
Titles include:
>The Divine Comedy
>The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe
>The Complete Sherlock Holmes
>The Complete Cthulu Mythos Tales
I also plan on picking up The Art of War soon. Any thoughts or where to start?
>>8895085
The definition of tacky
lit would say start with Divine Comedy.
I personally would start with Sherlock Holmes or Cthulhu.
>>8895094
I would have to agree, looks like something a millenial would collect but not actually read
