>a cuck thread reaches 300 replies but let's not talk about what we actually read
>>8903300
I've read like 15-20 books this year but hell if I could remember what they were
Alan Watt's autobiography is really good
What does /lit/ think of Edgar Allan Poe?
>>8903268
I dispise poetry but he's cool
>>8903268
I was thinking about the Cask of Amontillado recently; and how prophetic it was that I read it in 8th grade; and how it turned out to become a metaphor for my life.
>>8903413
go on, faggot
Where can I buy cheap second-hand books online? Or just cheap books in general.
>>8903259
abebooks senpai
got a very nice hardcover of against the day for $4 and an everyman's edition of ulysses for $8 last month
>>8903259
Amazon if you look in to the other buy options. BookDepository do it cheaper on Amazon than their website sometimes.
Otherwise, best bet is your surrounding area.
>>8903284
how is their shipping outside us/Europe?
What's /lit/'s opinion on the silmarillion? I'm currently 167 pages into it
It's kinda hard to follow with everyone have 8 different names. And it seems like a new place is named a new location every other sentence.
>>8903249
Sorry I had a stroke
Meant to say
"it seems like a new location is named every other sentence"
>>8903249
it's utterly impenetrable and also totally unenjoyable give up while you still have time
>>8903260
Don't forget that places are often named after characters.
What can I expect?
>>8903229
expect to read about a man who writes a book about a man and the man who wrote it and what he wrote about, and the book that he wrote, which was about a documentary that doesn't exist.
>>8903270
or possibly does exist. ツ)_/¯
>>8903229
If your experience is anything like mine, you can expect to drop it like 150 pages in.
-Like holy shit man it's, a JR thread hey

Dropped.
What the fuck Gaddis?
I mean, what is this fucking thing even about? It seriously gives me the impression of being an incredibly tedious read. Is it?
This is my last thread, /lit/. You don't give a shit, but I'm just here to say thanks. I had virtually no one to talk to for these last few years, and though it's pathetic to say, /lit/ is one of the only things that kept me going. The brutal honesty, irony and post-irony to the point of absurdity, and unabashed elitism of this place gave me solace from a world that I felt left out of. I had some legitimately great conversations on here, and I feel like because of /lit/'s constant shitting on my taste and opinions, I was opened up to a new and deeper understanding of literature and philosophy. There are some very smart people on here, despite this place only being a mongolian hentai board. Also, the sense of humor that this website has is truly one of a kind. Whoever first started screencapping the DFW interview at opportune moments is a fucking genius, and I applaud him. I never really understood what made the "avid reader" pasta so great, but it always made me fucking chortle whenever I saw it. So thanks, you fine gentlemen, for helping me get through a very bitter time in my life, and I wish you nothing but luck.

I'm so stoked I found a copy of Omensetter at a used book shop for 2 bones.
its mint condition even though has stickers from two used book stores. plebs couldn't make it out of the first chapter.
Damn good day.
>>8902668
I tried 4 book stores and couldn't find a copy. Only one store had any Gass and it was "Middle C"
>>8902650
No. But reading Gass could help /lit. Open people's eyes. Make them see past the classics. Gass will be remembered and read in the future. His writing is beautiful. lol look what I got.
What books will help me be less of a misanthrope? Whenever I go out, I see myself sperging out inside with hatred and constant negative judgments about other people. And don't you fucking give me that normie shit like "just b urself bro," or "just get laid bro" or "just go outside bro" or I will come down there and poop down your fucking throat
>>8902634
Read Nietzsche.
>>8902634
Read pic related recently.
Truly learned a lot, but specifically to your point, you could learn much from Alyosha. Nonetheless a great read.
>>8902634
read some Henry James. people are just as anxiously performing themselves as you are.
