Cervantes VS Shakespeare.jpg
98KB, 953x732px
Cervantes: A poor spaniard who wrote about the reality of his time with human characters that reflected the troubles and faults of real people. Through simple stories he showed a complex portait of his reality. Has very few books because was a poor man who had to work for a living, was a soldier (was a war hero, and was captured by pirates), tax collector, merchant... Also was in jail.
And even though he was the best writter od Spain nobody acknowledged him in his time.

Shakespeare: son of a wealthy british family, did nothing besides writting ( he didn't need to). Writtes complicated books about people that backstab each other and then speak of the inevitability of destiny. Characters in his plays are nobles, kings, wealthy people... And when he talks about poor people it is very irreal (he never was poor). Had the fame and acknowledge of his country. He lived in cotton wool.

I'm with Cervantes,and you?

Is proclaiming Shakespeare to be the best writer ever a fair statement? Or has it just been said so much that people blindly accept it as being true?

It isn't fair. It's a really englishcentrist thing to say.
>>
He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest. Whether he is the greatest or not is a debate that really doesn't matter. It's just a dick-waving contest.

What if he didn't write all of those plays

Weak or not, you'll suffer. Whether you should or shouldn't is of no consequence.
>>
"Should" implies some spooky ideological sense of justice and morality. In reality, weak people generally WILL suffer (generally). "Should" you make them suffer? No, that probably means you believe you have some divine right to serve justice based on what you deem moral or immoral. Genuine understanding and empathy are generally the best way to help them improve

This guy makes German Idealism seem like a cool religion that I would gladly become a devout follower of.
Are there any actualized NEETs on the left that can provide me with something or someone in this vein except from a leftist perspective? Serious question

i truly enjoy the prospect of sharing knowledge and have spent some time amassing a library that is tailored to the creation of what i would call the "educated american citizen"

to this end, i have a scanner and am willing to share my books in the form of digital PDFs

what i would like are suggestions as to the best way to share those PDFs with you all

as time goes on, i will post images of my library to this thread, with accompanying subjects listed. please refer to those images for particular requests--i am willing to scan in virtually anything, but please make your requests reasonable and expect some delay between their recognition and their execution
tl;dr: want to share library with you all, converting physical copies into PDFs, please tell me best way to share collectively/create digital archive

Sort of. You'll be able to edit but nobody can just drop their files, they could post them on the thread and you upload them to yours.

so basically everyone before David Foster Wallace was only successful because illiteracy was so rampant in their times that any book written was considered a classic?

It's good to read that slowly.
>>
>>9013351
I don't think reading more improves your reading speed beyond whatever increase you may get from having a better vocabulary, and being familiar with different styles of writing.

Also, there are a lot of factors than can affect reading speed such as the content, and your ability to process information (i.e. your IQ), etc. So simply saying to read more doesn't really cut it.

What's that word for when you realise that you'll look back at the previous year and three quarters and realise it was completely wasted?

>finished a degree I hated
>worked retailcuck part time jobs
>barely read more than 5 books
>did maybe a month's worth of productive stuff in my free time
>went to the gym regularly and lifts went up but ate lots of junk food and had coffee enough to harm sleep at times
>main hobby was taking walks or driving and feeling sad about my life and telling myself I would work extremely hard to learn productive skills tomorrow
>wasted gigantic amounts of time on internet and 4chan browsing
>told myself every day that I'd start working hard and eating healthily tomorrow and having genuine false hope almost every time

I can't motivate myself to work hard on anything or have goals. I know other people have quarter life crises but my life is fucking zooming past, not due to a boring 9-5 job but my inability to do anything with my free time.
