Why the FUCK aren't you learning another language pleb?

I know, you're right, I hate myself for this. I want to learn German but I can't be fucked among all the other shit I have to do day to day.
>>
Already speak in three tongues, know a fourth.
>>
Not even an anglo, I know 3 languages. Language learning is vastly overrated (thats why mostly women do it), if you want to learn a language, study a programming one. It actually trains your logical thinking instead of replacing one set of words and grammatical rules with another.

I have the money to spend on it and prefer paper aesthetically. Enjoyment is all the reason you need.

I also routinely swap books with friends, which isn't as easy with normal ebooks.

>>9006410
the character is a scientist at heart who has seen geometries and geographies which defy rational explanation and wants to apply Foglio's law to them (any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science)

An entity decided to invest in her quest by giving her a set of glasses with a pair of knobs at the end. turning them allows her to rotate and displace her vision in any dimension (including time and hyperspace). She believes there's a rational explanation for how it works but given that she has no way to take it apart without breaking it she uses it in her research

Later she finds out that it doesn't work with other people, which she brushes off as some kind of biometric device.

Evnetually she loses the glasses, much to her dismay. However, when she goes to turn the knob subconsciously it works anyway, revealing that the glasses were just a magic feather. it was always her power to begin with.

Unfortunately, this kind of implies that it's magic and/or something she can't explain
>>
>>9006494
why do the glasses have to be a magic feather? can't they just be "strange glasses" and her power is producing the effect through the lens of the glasses? maybe they're just an amplifier of her power

Post you work, and critique another posters work. Simple. Help the /lit/, get help from the /lit/, and so forth.

If you don't rate another anons and post your own shitty writing, you probably won't get a rate or any sort of constructive criticism.

There were two chickens left in the place where chickens are kept.

I do mean to imply that two is a number lower than what the space had been used to previously. And I do not intend to call it a coop.

This is the tale of an encounter that changes nothing. When the sun shines on a snowy day, the whole world bursts and gleams and everyone must think that the snow will melt. But it doesn't. That night, the snow falls again, and nothing has changed.

Meeting Olivia should and could have changed everything, but it didn't. In a few months, she would be dead and forgotten and I would be back in Alaska, transcribing young adult novels for John Green to steal from.

This tale changes nothing.

I propose that we start on the 25th and use the Grossman or the OJB translation. We should also read 50 pages a day

No strong opinions regarding translation or start date but I feel like 40-50 a day is a good range.

I only read 300 or less page YA or space opera books these days because I sick of all the self-masturbatory pseudointellectual "literature" people shit out constantly. And I'm having much more fun with books because of it. That's what it's all about for me now. Not reading some trash by some fag who took a few creative writing courses and thinks they have something deep and meaningful to tell everyone.

What does /lit/ think of Twenty One Pilots when it comes to their lyricism?

On /mu/ we have widely agreed upon the fact that no other band managed to merge avant-garde with mainstream pop music as well as Twenty One Pilots. Indeed, they do make a great job in appealing to the masses but what makes them so different is their artistic merit -- it remains intact -- and I'm fairly certain that the same entity applies to their lyrics/poetry.

Discuss.

What's the best single volume history of the world? Been thinking about buying this bad boy. Do you have other recommendations? Or perhaps should I give up on single volumes altogether in favor of multiple volumes?

I wanted to read something like that to get a general idea of how the world has progressed in its different parts, but at the same time most of them have writings that seem utterly bland and boring.

I am going for the picture related instead.
>>
Best single volume: History of the World by J.M. Roberts
2nd best: A Little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich

Best various volumes: History of the Ancient World / Medieval World / Renaissance World by Susan Wise Bauer, followed by A History of the Modern World by R.R. Palmer.

Can any native english speaker help me write a note that fits well alongside this book i'm planning to give a girl for her birthday coming up?

It's a very meaningful book and i want to write a beautiful note and have it sent to her in a nice gift wrap.

It's a girl i used to be with, she's been with me through some hard times in my life, i've always had family troubles and depression (which split us apart in the end) and all that bad stuff but she was around to bring some sunshine. She's born in the summer and i'm born in the middle of winter so i always used to call her my summer girl.

I'm thinking of saying 'This is for the person who brought a bit of summer into my otherwise cold and grey world. For my summer girl.' or something along the lines, which may sound cheesy but i know for a fact it will make her smile. Can anyone help make it sound nice?

>>
you forgot to say what book it was
>>
>>9015600
>into my otherwise cold and grey world
is a bit tryhard/cringe/fedora

using the word summer twice is a bit iffy as well replace the first one with something else

maybe something like

For the person who brought a touch of color into my world; for my summer girl

if you get a few more syllables in the second line you can get a slant rhyme off world/girl which is always a little cute

I hope you have nice handwriting!
