I know i'm going to ask something quite unrelated to this board, but do any of you guys feel an urge of exercising after reading too much? Like, i start to think that i'm being too sedentary and physically unactive and get a bit unquiet by that feeling. Does this happen to any of you? And do you guys think it's possible to be an intellectual and physically active at the same time?
>>9018687
>No man has the right to choose physical training over wisdom. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty of truth and wisdom while wasting time on the strength his body is capable of.
>>9018687
>get a bit unquiet by that feeling
Here we have the typical reader of books: picking unnecessarily complex words to seem more well-read and intelligent, when in fact it has the opposite effect and makes you look quite childish. I am embarrassed for you.
>>9018687
>And do you guys think it's possible to be an intellectual and physically active at the same time?
What, like reading a book while squatting? Maybe, try it out.
Now I'm being charitable with that interpretation. If what you meant was "can one be physically fit and well read at the same time?" The answer is of fucking course you retard. If you workout 4 hours a week for 2 years you'll be in better shape than 99% of the population, you have all the time you need you're shitposting on 4chan for christ's sake. Go to /fit/, read the sticky, SS is not a meme, go fucking lift.

What's your opinion on his works? I wanted to get into him but i'm not sure where to start
He's one of the goats. I'd start with As I Lay Dying
>>9018649
The prose is kind of hard, but all of his works are rewarding reads. I would start with a short story collection before getting in to his more popular novels to see what he's all about.
>>9018649
I stupidly choose to major in English literature and I took a class on Faulkner.
In the class we started with The Sound and The Fury and then we read Absalom Absalom Both are fucking amazing read The Sound and Fury first then read Absalom Absalom I think you are really going to enjoy it.
>Once he finds himself in such groups or, as he matures, aspires to be a member of some group, he in effect discovers more or less unconsciously that he must exhibit the behavior that will identify him as belonging, or accept a position as an outsider.
Reading a book on group psychology, and as a perpetual outsider this line stuck out to me.

I know them feels anon. I've tried several times to fit in. Never could. Now I'm just The Stranger.

Writers:
a) are a product of their culture
b) shape their culture
choose one and explain
What a stupid dichotomy.

explain that too
c. are kinda both a product of an shape culture
Hey lit. I'm about to order a bible. Where and which website do you recommend?
King james, don't need a specific website
Nrsv oxford with apocrypha from amazon. If you're set on the kjv i hear good things about lattimores translation. Probably get that one from amazon too
KJV is a meme. It's only valuable if you're primarily interested in literary aspects of KJV, whose linguistic influence is indeed immense. If you want actual best English translation most true to original go for NASB.
Who is the smartest writer in the history of Western civilization?

Fucking retards should be gassed, desu.
>>9018553
Quotation marks are a spook.
But Hitler was objectively a god amongst men.
What book will make me insane??
I'm planing to read Hegel for 40 hours straight with no rest but bathroom and snacks. Do you think it will work?
Post some suggestion of books that will fuck me up

This board has slowly ruined Nietzsche's reputation. Anyone I've spoken with outside this site, who I know either goes here or is at least aware of the culture and mentality, just mocks his work and discards it as useless. And funny enough, a lot of them I've spoken with were also either fascists, anarchists, or right-wing / Republican.
My question is: why did you have to go and ruin a good thing? Why couldn't you just actually read him and not be a meme-spouting pleb? Thanks for making discussing my favorite philosopher on the internet that much harder.
You need to acknowledge that man's ability to discern good and evil is a sin and to fucking trust Jesus.
>someone somewhere disagrees with my views
