Is this acceptable by /lit/ standards?I'm trying to do some preparatory reading for an Italian studies course that starts in a week. With that in mind, is this (modern English translation) worth it or a waste of time?
I've been flipping through selections of Petrarch's "Canonziere" and I managed to burn through Dante's Inferno, is there any other authors/poets I should be examining?
Grazie.

Thoughts on Goldoni, Leopardi, or Calvino? Talk to me, guidos. Capiche?
What are some of your favorite hardboiled/detective/crime works? Just ordered this, heard it was a masterpiece.

also from Ellroy The Black Dahlia, LA Confidential, Brown's Requiem, Killer on the Road
I also like James Crumley. Dancing Bear and The Last Good Kiss
True Confessions by John Gregory Dunne was another original twist on the Black Dahlia murder that Ellroy wrote about.
The Burnt Orange Heresy by Willieford was good too.
From the older guys, Chandler, Hammet and Ross MacDonald were all pretty solid.
I'm a big film noir fan but never really gotten into the book side. I've only read The Thin Man which was much better than the film, though I see it hard to match the level of seriousness and humour.

Bentham, there's even a professional consensus about this somewhere.
"He who fucks beasts, is a man"
What did he mean by this?
>>9959550
he means women are animals
I think he meant he who fucks beasts, is a man.
He meant all the 8s to 10s were out of his league and all that was left was your mom
Ahoy, recommend me three books that you consider a must read, hopefully not boring ones. (Serious btw, nvm the pic)

What are the most frightening books? Especially psychological thriller.
I tried Lovecraft but I didn't really find it scary.
Try 1984 or Animal Farm, or Brave New World. They all have in common that they have been outdone by reality by now, though.

Let's nail this once for all. Charlie clearly didn't maked his homework, which was read the freak novel before the interview, so he brings the conversation to a tangential road about cinema, mainstream movies, precisely, David Lynch, detox treatment and gets BTFO by Dave and his fragile ego assumes a warfare posture toward our guy. Then desperate to antagonize DFW he accuses him of pontification and guess what? again Dave hammer him down.
Pretty soul-piercing the whole thing to be honest. Charlie Rose should have had quitted the interface job there, if him possessed the self-respect feat.

One of those interviews is about A Supposedly Fun Thing and not Infinite Jest, and I'm pretty sure ASFT contains Wallace's Lynch article/preview of Lost Highway.
I don't get the Rose hate i.r.t. DFW. He asks simple questions and Dave acne scars and aggressively self-deprecatingly fidgets his way through it like he always does. This coming from a huge DFW fan.

but the ending was also hamfisted. As though the author first came up with the idea of the emotional separation and then put together the contrivances to bring it about. It just didn't fit right, which tarnished the emotional moment in the back of my mind.
Hi /lit/,
I'm stuck with this thought right now, this question.. Who is "me"?
Is it my physical body? Is it my mind, my cognitive abilities? Is it the memories? Is it my thoughts? What is being?
Let's assume I have a severe accident at this moment and I lose my memories completely, did I just die? I mean, I still have my physical body but every thing else is gone.
Are there any books for what I'm describing?
Sorry for the autism.

That is meta-physics my friend.
I recommend Schopenhauer because I'm reading him right now but you might want to look to Descarte's, cognito ergo sum...or "I think therefore I am".
Many loops in his theory however it is a great starting point for that metaphysical question of what defines "I"

If I want to start getting into philosophy, do I have to start with the greeks?
I don't give a fuck about plato or aristotle or their strawman fucking characters and dialogs...

Also, chaste-lit general. Christians and Jews welcome :)

To be quite honest this post just sounds like shitposting bait.
Could you please take it to another board? I'd prefer this one to have actual quality content and discussion rather than incessant shitflinging because someone wanted to chuckle to themselves for a few minutes about how many idiots they tricked into replying.
