Are there any books on this? Books that analyze the way they think and act and such? I always feel like my female characters are lacking something but, being a lonely guy with no friends, I can't simply go asking my girl friends what they think of them.

Can someone explain to me what the point of this book was? I get the idea of him being "crushed like a bug" has double meaning and all that, but I didn't really "connect" with the book in any meaningful way.

Yeah, he has his priorities wrong, and worries about the wrong things considering his situation.

Yeah, he's in constant pain, and everything is so awful for him.

Yeah, he's disgusting and his family grows to hate him because of his situation until he eventually dies.

So what? I didn't get outright bored with the book, but compared to Kafka's other works, it's really disappointing.

Which other Kafka works did you enjoy and what makes them different to the metamorphosis for you?
>>
>>9113638
Favorite one of mine is probably "The Trial". The difference that made it enjoyable to me is that I felt that K was a more believable character than Samsa. Samsa felt almost tragicomic in his behaviour, like someone took Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh and elevated him to "classic literature" status.

>"Oh well, I'm a bug now"
>>
The point is that his family never did love him. His whole life was working a shit job that he hated so that they'd be supported, and the moment he became unable to do so, they essentially abandoned him. They only wanted him cured so that he could support them again. Outside of being the money maker, he had no value whatsoever in his family.

He worked as hard as he could for these people, and the very moment he needed them, what happens? They complain and lament their situation, and eventually rejoice in his death when it arrives

I know this probably isn't the best place to ask about this but im really desperate. So anyway i'm in my senior year in college and i'm writing my thesis which is disability discrimination in the workplace. My aim was to see if consumers attitude would increase after hiring disabled people, but my paper was focusing on the discrimination, the disability discrimination act (Laws), and the advantages and disadvantages of hiring disabled people. But my professor said that with the way may paper was going, it had nothing to do with consumers attitude and i should change the purpose of my paper. and i have no clue what to write. Can anyone help? if im writing about disability discrimination and writing about the laws of disability and the advantages and disadvantages of hiring disabled people, what would be the aim of the research.

It's the wrong board and the wrong website since it has no board for homework help.
If you can't figure out your problem, you also probably shouldn't go for a degree. Doesn't sound like you are studying anything worthwhile either.

That said, I have no idea what you mean by "increase consumers attitude". If you are researching disability discrimination and discrimination laws, then the aim of your research is to FIND OUT about the advantages and disadavantages. Once you have those, you can put a pretty bow on them but you're pretty much done.
>>
>>9112941
Well it's HR so yeah i guess it isnt that important, i still want to graduate tho.

I already mentioned the advantages and disadvantages in the paper so it wouldn't make sense to make the aim finding out about them
>>
>>9112941
i also don't think this is the wrong board, it's literature and im writing my thesis

>Sophie's World by Jostein Gaardner

If I had read this back then, it would have helped a lot, both for my mad teenage mind and for my interest in actual philosophy. Did anyone read this back in the day?

I'm only 18. Would it still be enjoyable? Why is it suited for 15 y/os?
>>
>>9112932
I still find it enjoyable. I've read some of the actual philosophers cited in this, but it's good to just blast through something for the fun of it and kind of gives you a full picture of 3000 years of Western Philosophy without getting bogged down while at the same time not trivializing it either.

It would have explained a lot to me when I was younger. They're universal questions no matter how well read you are, so I don't get bored. And it reminds you what it was like to have that inquisitive childish innocence.
>>
Yeah, I read it when I was 14 or so. Don't remember anything about the philosohpy, just the spooky story and the atmosphere.

The idea of secret knowledge passed on by books, confusing and magical worlds that you choose to explore - outside of the school system - that was the main gift it gave me.

Moar?

The first Shannara book (Sword) is a carbon copy of LOTR. Plot, characters, places line up uncannily. Still comfy though, and the ending is pretty original. Elfstones and Wishsong are both good, the Heritage of Shannara (tetrology) is amazing.

Stop reading Shannara after that. Just read the first 5 books, and fucking stop.

People who like this guy -- why?

I am not exaggerating when I say he's one of the worst professional writers I've ever read.

What is the purpose of his lack of punctuation and proper grammar? All it did was make simple sentences confusing as fuck to read. Was that the intended effect? Half the time you can't even tell if what you're reading is supposed to be dialogue until you realise that what you've just read makes no sense otherwise and you have to go back.

Why is Blood Meridian a good book? What meaning does it hold?

Why the fuck won't he even put an apostrophe for the word 'don't'?

This guy is a hack, why do you like him?

Yes, you might have the same problem as me. When I was a kid I would write tunes, but i would draw a picture of it to remember it. Even after learning to read music and the theory of it. The local university had me match a bunch of colors to sounds and random, and then repeat it in a different order a bunch of times to make sure I wasn't bullshitting.

I don't remember what it's called, but it's basically a confusion of senses/perception. So for me tastes have a pitch and music looks like a picture. Numbers all have genders and attitudes and stuff like that.
6 is the nice girl who likes 7, but he is way too taken with sexy 8, who happens to be a huge bitch and only hooks up with 9 and 15 and other assholes like that.

It doesn't matter, just don't sound like a crazy person in groups.
