Undoing Yourself with Energised Meditation and Other Devices
Not all "high-brow," but better than normal.
1. The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell
2. Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
3. The Art of Happiness by Epicurus
4. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Why must we imagine Sisyphus happy?
>>9112877
To uphold the ideology of capitalism, of course.
>>9112877
if he was unhappy he would just stop pushing the boulder duh
Because life is, according to the absurdist world view "Sisyphean" - a great unrewarding effort to be repeated endlessly, both in the sense of our every day lives, and the generational cycle, as our children repeat our mistakes ad infinitum.
So you either find a way to be happy with, or in spite of that, or you don't.
Something besides the classics like hyperion or dune?
Thanks jon

Not new but The Br. Strugatsky are great and most people do not know about them. Their book Roadside Picnic is what inspired the film Stalker.
Bloodchild and Other Stories - Butler
The Culture Series - Banks
Under the Skin - Faber
The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories (not a typo) - Wolfe
In the Country of Lost Things - Auster
The Road - McCarthy
Four Ways to Forgiveness - Le Guin
Oryx and Crake - Atwood

I'm biased against audiobooks, but sometimes I ask myself why is writing superior to sound? Languages are based on sound.
>>9112236
Because most texts are written to be read. Plays, some poetry, etc. are not, though.
>>9112240
>texts are written to be read
Texts are meant to be read, but they should be read by you using your own inner (or outer) voice. I don't trust audiobook narrators, who can give you only their "interpretation."
Does anyone else just consume books without really thinking too deeply about them? I feel like a brainlet when I don't do all the analysis shit they forced you to do in high school after every chapter, even though most of it was meaningless and really grasping at straws.
judging from the /pol/ reaction image you are definitely a brainlet and should kill yourself
>>9112504
>even though most of it was meaningless and really grasping at straws
Wrong. But yeah, I read for fun and generally don't think deep thoughts about it. That would feel like work tbph
To be honest I don't think at all
Have you ever gotten fiction published, /lit/?
Nope, never even tried.
I write short poems for the amusement of myself, my friends and loved ones.
This makes me happy, because it makes them happy, and that's better than getting "into the trash".jpg here, or "Too white, not enough gender dysphoria" from the periodical.
I've self-published a few copies of a book I wrote when I was 22. A pro writer told me it has potential. I never had much inspiration after it though.

Best answer possible. End of the thread.

Anyway, if you hadn't noticed, Omar is also a strong-arm larcenist and a murderer. It doesn't matter that he targets other criminals--these are very serious crimes.

I'm depressed as fuck so I wrote a poem. Tell me what you think
A leaf falls from a tree and is ground into the asphalt
Under the weight of the tire
The waves continue to crash against the shore but there is no more wind
No comfort comes from the dark of night
And the sun no longer rises
Clouds cover the sky but there is no rain
For rain would turn snow to slush
Mixing with dirt until what was once white is brown
A single drop of rain falls from the sky
As the Sun engulfs the Earth
>>9111578
>A leaf falls from a tree and is ground into the asphalt
>Under the weight of the tire
Life (your life) is being crushed by your surroundings if it is obligations in life or general responsible adulthood
>The waves continue to crash against the shore but there is no more wind
Everyone uses crashing waves as a metaphor or personification, so...
.
.
.
I like it
(if that means anything)
even if it doesn't really have any form that allows me to recognize a set metre easily like rhymescheme or verse structure would (I have no idea what poetry terms are in English)

Stop writing poetry that's horrible
A (fucking) leaf falls from the Trudeau meme
and is underground into the alfa
Under the wage of the Tyron
The waves continue to crash against the Lighthouse but there is no more Woolfe
No comfort comes from the end of night
And the sun also longer rises
Clouds Atlas Shuggered cover the sky but there is no rain without pain
Foreigns would turn Snowden to Pizzagate
Racemixing with dirt peel who was once forbidden is now encouragement
But the leaves, now chinese
And the house of leaves
Of the Ceremony of Tea.
That was the unlimited joke.
I'll just start you off with the template.

A name everyone knows, but one that I personally never paid much attention to. What do you think of his work?
Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a bit long and kinda tedious for my taste but there's some amazing lines in there. I haven't read The Waste Land yet.
I will show you fear in a handful of dust

Also, he's one of the best of all time.

Perhaps it's because I read it in a classroom setting, but it felt like it too forever to get through. I'm going to read it again now, though.
