Anyone read any of his works ?
I was watching a hitchens video, where he was talking about Trotsky having amazing prose etc.
>>9966284
I've got pic related but never really read much Trotsky. There's always stuff on Marxists.org if you want to find his stuff

His Their Morals and Ours essay was good from what I remember.
However true christianity might seem, it is still an incomplete story for what has happened on this planet. There are books in the vatican that paint a bigger picture. The book of Enoch for one. Does anyone else know anything deeper about the books of the vatican? I've heard that some of them are huge and have "indestructible" pages.

Thoughts?
Tell me what the 7 habits are and I'll let you know how the book was.
>>9966274
1. Regular exercise
2. Maintaining a balanced diet
3. Leave tasks to the last minute
4. Throwing used toilet paper in the waste bin as opposed to flushing it down the toilet
5. Beating off a lot
6. Sucking lots of dick
7. Fucking your mother
>>9966245
>Thoughts?
I've not read it and with a title like that there's little chance I'm ever going to read it. They're the kind of books George Costanza read.
>14 pages of solely listing soldiers and their country

It's literally just ancient genre fiction, no idea why it's so praised.
What are we meant to make of Lot's daughters having sex with him? I mean I understand they wanted to continue the line and their mother had just been turned into a bloody pillar of salt, but it's disgusting no?
>>9966232
Yeah. Chicks are gross.
>>9966232
Maybe it's part of the punishment for looking back at the city. The mother turning into a pillar of salt was only the first part of the consequences. And it could be a message that even if one is holy (Lot) and tries to protect his family, sin and corruption can creep in. Idk desu.
>I have to guess what my god wants me to do
Ayyy lmao. Maybe it means you should make love with your daughter?
Keep in mind that, according to /lit/, this garbage is the greatest work of literature. It's complete nonsense but everyone says it's great and it's part of our culture so it MUST be good.
Just pretend to be Christian so you're not bothered and don't waste your time with this. You will learn nothing, if you want to remember some fancy lines so you can sound smart, just google them.

Are audiobooks an acceptable equivalent to reading?
I feel as though they've helped me regain my love of literature - I've massively struggled with reading in the past few years.
absolutely, the only utter shit part with them is that some great books can have some of the most faggot tier narrators that make them utterly indigestible. The inverse is also true. I've found myself enthralled by what otherwise is shitter tier writing because the narrator makes up the difference in their performance. Put simply: Your mileage may vary.
if it works for you then just do it and stop seeking validation form the il/lit/erates around here.
>>9966689
Thanks, my most recent book (Count of Monte Cristo) has a great narrator. But the Iliad had an author who spoke in a monotone the entire time.
On that note, anyone know a good place to get audiobooks? Audible is a little pricey for me but it is good.
>>9966143
Audiobooks are kinda like training wheels imho, but they are still fine. They got me back into reading after a long break. I had a particular list to work through and for the first couple books I used audiobooks, then I stumbled across a terrible narrator and from then on I've been reading. (Which has amplified my retention of material because reading has caused me to drink far less).
What are the differences between Logos, Brahman and Tao, with ephasis on the latter two?
I would say Logos emphasizes the symbolic quality of it, like a pointer, the looking-at nature of it. Brahmin emphasizes the absolute quality of it. Tao emphasizes the empty quality of it, how nothing can be said about it
Just vague speculation though

Is Walden a dry read? I'm considering it for my next conquest.
>>9966019
There are parts that are undeniably dry, but if you stick with it you will see that they all compliment the most transcendent passages in the book. The transformation from mundane and material concerns to the abstract and sublime is exactly what makes the book so beautiful
>>9966045
Ok I can dig that, anon. Walden it is.
Very dry. There are some great bits in there but overall I found it quite boring.
Movie how?
It is extremely violent, would require a huge budget, and a director prepared to be 'artsy' in order to capture it correctly.
Those three things do not go together.
>>9966222
So a more violent No Country for Old Men? The Coen brothers did a fantastic job capturing the tone of the novel/McCarthy in general.
>>9966001
It's a really bad idea. Without McCarthy's prose the story is worthless. The movie would just be repetitive violence over and over again for 3 hours. And that's if its faithful which it wouldn't be anyway.
>Introduction to the book is longer than 15 pages
