I know almost nothing about history, highschool history was my last course and that was years ago, forgot most of it. Im having trouble understanding some of the books I am interested in (The Fourth Turning and The Best And The Brightest) are two of them, because I am braindead when it comes to history. Is there like a /lit/ approved series of books where I can learn the basics of American history, but not spend a year on it? Interested in period of the American Revolution to the late 80s.

anyone know of a "data-driven" discussion of post-roman litersture that looks that the number of references to different ancients over time and the effects their influence/disputation had?

if no - anyone care to guess who the most popular ancients were during various literary periods?

Homer, Plato, Socrates, Epictetus, Seneca, Virgil, Cicero, Aurelius

All of these are generally regarded as the most prolific.

Listen cunt, if they were inspirational for thousands of years later then they were probably the most popular of their time considering their work was preserved and they were spoken often of.

Had a whole six months of it last year, during which I nearly lost my marbles and my job.

I've learned that good sleep is the foundation of a good life. And dreaming is one of the highest functions of the mind. Once you start recording and interpreting your own dreams, you open up a whole avenue of communication with the unconscious. I'd recommend it to anyone.
>>
Yes, been struggling with it for a few years. Been trying to sort it out because a lack of sleep is fucking horrible. Being permanently sleep deprived means i can barely do anything, barely think ect

Why anyone would consider devoting their lives to literature in 2017 is beyond me. If you don't have connections in the industry you're literally a nobody to these people. The state of contemporary literature is utterly disgusting. I have tried as hard as I can to appeal to these people yet time and time again they reject me without even the slightest acknowledgement of my genius. I have struggled at length, using up a great store of energy and enthusiasm making sure that every sentence is perfect, that each passage is syntactically flawless, that my mode of expression is without fault. Yet they reply like this (pic related). They humiliate me without even considering what effect such a rejection might have on a mind as delicate, sensitive and profound as my own. Disgusting. I can't bear it.

shit like that makes me want to be contrarian and say no. Howerver, i believe that it is beneficial so i'll say yes.

No, it destroys our memorization capabilities and dulls creativity. There's a reason our ancestors opted for oral traditions.

It would be preferable if everyone read at least a few standard works yeah

Has anybody here ever considered buying a mobile library and living in it full-time?

I'm seriously considering spending $9,500 on a mobile library that the local library service is selling. I'm thinking of stocking it with my books and just driving around, spending my time reading and writing inside of it (and also sleeping of course). I'd shower etc in swimming pools and so on. Is this a gypsy-tier idea or does it sound like a good plan?

Do you think fuel costs would be very expensive?

Any thoughts about this?

>Vaughan's strongpelvic spasms coincided with the thudding passage of the lamp
standards anchored in the overpass at hundred-yard intervals. As each one approached
his hips kicked into the girl, driving his penis into her vagina, his hands splaying her
buttocks to reveal her anus as the yellow light filled the car.

>Here, all the erotic terms are technical. No ass, no dick, no cunt but: the anus, the
rectum, the vulva, the penis, coitus. No slang, that is to say no intimacy of sexual
violence, but a functional language: the adequation of chrome and mucous as of one form
to another. The same goes for the correspondence of death and sex: it is more as if they
are covered together in a sort of technical superdesign than articulated according to
pleasure. Besides, it is not a question of orgasm, but of pure and simple discharge. And
the coitus and sperm that traverse the book have no more sensual value than the filigree
of wounds has violent meaning, even metaphorically speaking. They are nothing but
signatures - in the final scene, X imprints the car wrecks with his sperm.

What did he mean by this?

>Deborah Smith, who has said her first attempt at Korean translation involved "looking up practically every other word in the dictionary", has won for her work on The Vegetarian by Han Kang.

>The pair will split the £50,000 jointly-won prize, the most prestigious award for translated fiction in the UK.

Korean woman writes a book, white woman translates it into english and gets equal credit.

Why is this allowed?
