What kind of writers do we have among the /lit/eraturists?
Is anyone published? Anyone ever interested a publisher? Anyone got a professional agent or editor?
>>9200500
I got a story published in The New Yorker.
The fact that they printed it immediately made me lose all respect for them and for most of the people who make money disseminating other people's writing.
It is noble to write. It is not noble to gatekeep. I haven't submitted anything since. It was more than five years ago.
>>9200527
Hahahahahaha, WHAT?
Did you have an agent at the time? I've heard that it's a fool's errand to do an unagented submission to the New Yorker.
>>9200527
Gawd blimey guv'nor.
If true, this constitutes a monstrosity. Why would you do that? It would be like a top of the class MIT grad deciding to work in McDonald's because particle physics was 'too easy'.
Are there any books that are better as an audiobook?
I'm about to embark on a ~20 road trip so i'm looking for some stuff to cycle between music and podcasts.
I'm thinking John Darnieles (of mountain goats fame) wolf in white van just because i like his voice.
>>9200355
Norm MacDonald's autobiography is amazing.
Others I've enjoyed recently:
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
>>9200355
Ender's Game
Finnegans Wake
Last thread started off good before it got deleted.
Post rare kinos of the literary lifestyle.
To keep it extra /lit/, also post the last book you've read.
>Director Ming Liang Tsai
>How To Chronologically
>Book On Country Roads and Fields, 17th Century Italianite Painters of the Duth Golden Age, p gud
>>9199734
This is really confusing. What do you want me to do?
You want me to post films or books or Directors?
>>9199734
wtf OP?
Anyone familiar with Something Happened here? I finally decided to read it and it has to be one of the most bleak and miserable novels I've ever encountered. It's so single-minded in its barrage of anxiety, paranoia, and hatefulness that it becomes borderline exhausting and you end up having to laugh at some of this absolutely horrific shit because there's nothing else you can do.
I have a copy of it laying around, I found it at a thrift store for like fifty cents. Haven't read it yet.
>>9199523
Yeah, it's like all of the bleak bits from the second half of Catch 22, without the comedy to balance it.
The ending was pretty crazy. Something happened indeed.
>>9199523
I read the first few pages of it on the Amazon preview thingy and it made me laugh. Would you recommend it to someone who loved Catch-22?
>this FAT FUCK's book has been read more times than your novel will ever be
>this FAT FUCK's book has had more essays and articles published about him than your novels ever will
>this FAT FUCK's book has stirred more controversy than you ever will
how will /lit/ even compete

Books on how to be funny?
I'm not trying to be the funniest person in the room, I just want to learn to make people laugh. Is there a formula for humour?
who are some funny people you enjoy?
hit the sweet spot between ironic self-glorification and sarcastic self-contempt without it appearing autistic
youd be better off watching stand up or listening to funny podcasts or something
if your goal is to make normies laugh, i mean

point out connections between things that are not obvious until you point them out, and do it with entertaining delivery.
Hey, Idiot.
What do you mean you haven't learned German to read our complete works yet? What are you, some kind of brainlet?
Deutsh es ist hart.
Wich is about all i can say on the language. Seriously, how do you expect non natives to learn when should we use die, der, das?
Wer sind diese blöde Kuhe ?
>>9208552
There's no need to learn how to write in German, A. because you'll likely never do it and B. because barely anyone in German reads serious literature anymore anyways and you'd be writing for a people that's as good as dead spiritually
But learning German well enough to read classic literature seems worth it
>>9208553
To the left is Herrmann "For the Artist, aesthetics replace morality" Hesse, to the right is Adolf "Thomas Mann" Hitler
>When you're on the bus reading a classic and the author uses the word Nigger and a black guy gets son the bus and you glance down at the word Nigger and then look at the black guy, and then you smirk, and then you look back up at the black guy and he makes eye contact with you while you're smirking, so you go back to your book in fear that the black guy some how knows that you just read the word Nigger.

McCarthy?
>>9205254
Steinbeck East of Eden, the part where he talks about The Nigger, hence why I capitalized Nigger lol.

>When you're picked by the professor to read the passage that says "nigger" twenty-four times and a group of black students sits immediately behind you
welcome to my humble tree house, Carme/lit/es

Miss Kitty should be here any minute

Rama?
Middle-Earth?
Neverland?
the cave from The Rats in the Walls?
The House of Usher?
Mars from The Martian Chronicles?
The Sprawl?
Dr No's island?
Locus Solus?
Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius?
/lit/?

>>9209022

>it ends with everybody dying or failing
>it ends unresolved because the author died

How old were you when you realised you were retarded?
Can you guys write some review blurbs for my future book. It's about.
-women going extinct
-because men learn to suck their own Dicks
-only fat lazy guys have gfs and it's looked down upon
-men stop working out or wearing nice clothes because they don't have to impress women
-women in the wild in hiding try and breed more and more to keep species alive
-the women are actually great mothers and loving family
-death squads hunt women 24-7 unless accompanied by a man
-lazy fat men can only get mail order brides
-men raised by women in the wild don't know about what's going on in the world
That's the quick rundown. Some examples would be
"No discernible talent" - Harold Bloom
"Roasties BTFO" - kek times
"The voice of our generation" - vice
"Bump" - anon times
Pretty good for a first epic shitpost. Outstanding considering your age. Looking forward to seeing your work in 5 years when you're not underage anymore and can unleash the full potential of your funny memeing talent.

"I thought this was like National Geographic, first. Like a real thing going on, and halfway through it, I guess, I tried to suck my own dick. But I only hurt my back. So, I cried and tried to email my ex again." - Tao Lin
What's the difference between Hegel's and Marx's dialectic.
Just started reading Hegel and there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference. From hat I can tell his own dialectic is largely compatible with materialism.
>>9207429
tits
All the interesting conclusions in Hegel are replaced by surface-level political and economic observations
>>9207433
>all things exist in constant motion interacting and acting upon each other thereby changing each other's qualities. i.e. thesis, antitheses, synthesis
So to read it like this is basically correct?
How do you motivate yourself to write? I'm sure we've all been stuck with great ideas and absolutely no will power to pen them down.
Any techniques, routines, mantras, excersises and the like that you use?
I see it more as a long game where. It comes to writing
So jot down every idea and archive it
See yourself improve and laugh at your old self
Finally a little bit of something here and there makes something good. A good quote I can't rememeber who I got from

Just write one true sentence dawg.

>Why haven't you taken the Botpill, yet?
someone needs to give me the rundown on his big bald head first
That man is offensively bald.
It's like violence.
Why is almost everything he says and writes about love? Do you think he's ever touched a set of tits?
