The tattered cover is really nice

If you go a little bit north to Boulder you can find the bookstore on Pearl St Mall

Dude, it's Colorado. You could literally yelp that shit

If you could write romance novels and make money, would you do it? The only catch is it will forever cheapen your dignity to see them outsell your masterpieces 100 to 1. Is it worth it in the end??
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9218593
Sure, as long as I could use a pseudonym
>>
sure.

Of course, there's a misperception that romance writers are just hacks, and anyone could do it.

If you believe that, try writing a romance novel yourself. You'll probably find it impossible.

That's because even though they're shitty books, it actually does take a special talent to write them, and the people who do so don't actually think of themselves as hacks, and they genuinely believe in the genre. That may make them morons, but they're genuine at least.
>>
>>9218612
This, desu. I can have fun writing shitty romances. I'll write my own works under a different name as passion products.

What are some places to shill your writings and gather a fanbase?

Facebook groups...
Reddit?

I've never claimed to be incredibly intelligent, but one thing I noticed when growing up is that I tend to devote far more thought than my peers to subject matters like religion and politics. This has not made me happy. Even though I was raised religious, I never truly believed and at the age of about 15 I decided that there was no rational reason to believe in God, especially the God of any major world religion (tips fedora). As I tried to search for meaning in a Godless world, I became more and more nihilistic. I didn't take pleasure in this - in fact, the pointlessness of life outright scared me. The more 'intelligent' I became, the more depressed I became. As I matured I stopped enjoying all the things I'd enjoyed as a child. I still set myself arbitrary targets and generally exceeded them, but I took little to no pleasure in anything. My life was permanent anhedonia.

That's why I decided to start living a more 'stupid' life. I tried to accept that I was a mere human, and pandered to the irrational things that make humans happy. I threw myself into relatively pointless hobbies like sports, and treated them as if they were everything. I started to spend less time by myself and socialise whenever possible. Importantly, I stopped reading and stopped trying to further my philosophical aptitude, as that had only made me miserable. Although I never actually started believing again, I started praying to God and telling myself that He was watching over me and had a plan for me. Weirdly, I felt much happier and more comfortable in my new, stupid life.

What are your thoughts on this sort of life? Have any philosophers written about similar experiences?

That's the age where I felt like I had started to think about it 'seriously' (by reading Dawkins admittedly, but hey, everyone's got to start somewhere). I never thought that atheism (or agnosticism) was definitely accurate though, I just accepted that as my default position at the age of 15 and have tried to challenge that ever since (24 now) but never found an argument compelling enough to make me change my mind.
>>

>What are your thoughts
You stopped thinking and became happier. Who would've predicted that, right?!
>Have any philosophers written...?
Stop trying to pretend to be what you're not. You have the privilege of being able to stop thinking and just practice sports, socialize, stop reading, stop philosophizing... so, don't come here and ask for validation for your lifestyle from philosophers. If you're happy, that's all that counts, right?

Is my twisted world the masterpiece of autistic screeching? KIs the only competitor that 19k page book where some autist janitor wrote about his loli guro rape fantasy?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.

pls explain further
>>
>>9218470
Autistic screeching is not a very competitive genre, stuff like dante and dosto don't count.

The author makes his non sentience explicit, but still puts as much emotion into his book as possible. Like a turtle that can't crawl over a curb, so it will starve to death.

I think my twisted world is the best book that does this, and i'd like to know if any competitors exist.

This is the guy who's autism powerlevel could maybe one up Elliot.

Which philosophy deals with the problem of insanity? Particularly as to how can one proceed with any sort of reliable intellectual conduct if one cannot evaluate own mental clarity

fuck off snowflake you aren't insane.

If your insanity amounts in an incapability of coherent reason then it amounts to exactly that.

For analysis of insanity relative to society read Foucault.

So-so, Collector was a bunch of influences, you can clearly see he's at least read Wilde. The premise is not that deep or original and the style is not very different from most modern fiction. Haven't read Magus yet, but probably won't because of my bad introduction to him

He can really capture how bitchy women can be. Good shit

Why is being curious good? Why is reading lots of books good when information presented in a book length document is a cultural artefact?

It seems that stuff like being well read or "curious" or having a "thirst for knowledge" is marketing made to milk consumerwhores. You never see these people doibg mathematical proofs. If it isn't knowledge that can be consumed, displayed, and discretely packaged then they don't care. And nobody markets this to you, of course

It's not even just vacuous business people who extol this shit.

Every single leisure activity ultimately ends up as some sort of work. Reading is no longer about entertainment, it's mainly used as a pseudo intellectual social signalling mechanism
